Nice review. Completely agree with you. I've played my share of train sims and Derail Valley is the one I've enjoyed most, even though the rail line is completely fictitious. DV is in my view the most under-rated rail sim out there.

Derail Valley is literally the game I've dreamed of ever since I've first heard of consumer-feasible VR. Been playing Train Simulators since my childhood and doing it in VR is the best way to enjoy it imo

It's also worth mentioning that the game will double in price after simulator, So if there is anytime, or if you are planning on getting it eventually, Make sure to do so before the next update!

It's easily worth the double price judging from how it currently is (with mods) and what we can expect to come. But it's a nice way of still getting it 50% off basically. Anyone interested should grab it ASAP. I did so myself and wasn't even really interested in train sims before, but YT recommended a great RL "cold and dark startup procedure" video of a steam locomotive from the D&RGW shot by Jeff Berrier and it had me so fascinated I wanted to do something like that in VR. And boom, that brought me here. And it's really good (especially with the realism overhaul mods by Zeibach on the current version that probably will all get obsolete with the big update soon). If you're on the fence still, just do it. Worth every single cent.

I'm perfectly aware of why it's called Derail Valley, but my very careful operating procedures has prevented that. I managed to get every license and buyable item (except for all of the cassette tapes because I am not interested in those) without derailing a single train!

More like Yugoslavia, since both diesel is based on Yugoslavian rolling stock. The place however, is completely fictious and if you ask the dev they just say "a poor region somewhere in the Europe"

I couldn't get on with the windscreen and cab sizes of the DE6 Then after using around 6 DE2s to haul around 7 contracts on an 8 hour live stream between machine factory to harbour.. Picking up any contracts from yards between them includingthe TWOCing of 4 contracts from one of the Town depots.. (I Basically, I forgot to book the contracts out with the machine I lovingly call Grace) I've now had the brain wave of multiple units of DE6s with a DE2 at the front.. Loads of power with an un-claustrophobic windscreen and cab layout.. Yay..! :) This was an unexpected physics force I experienced in game too. unfortunately I didn't have time to throw a fire extinguisher at it for added comedic effect.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6WwmZ6AgtiGrpo

wish this game was better optimized, i know its a indie dev. i just like making really long trains, generally ill grab all the logistics ones and plan a route around the map. just cant really ride the train as the fps tanks hard with 9900k and a 12gb 3080

Yeah I have a 3060 12gb 6 core processor and 32 go of RAM over all my computer cost $1500 and still had problems running the game In VR. I really do hope they optimize the game soon.

For the s0-6-0, the real world example is close but not the right one. The picture you have is a USATC s160, which is mid sized freight 2-8-0, but the s0-6-0 is going to be based off of the USATC S100, which is a small side-tank switcher. I don't mean to be rude, i just wanted to give you a heads up. Great video otherwise!
