Good detailed video! I replaced my thermostat (and coolant temp sensor) last week. Finding and using this video beforehand would have alleviated a lot of anxiety on my part. Just a suggestion: Fuel line does not need to be released. I was able to fit a T45 with an extension on the rear bolt of thermostat (under fuel rail). Yes, I was at an angle, but it did work. Also, ots better to just release the lower radiator hose versus that drain cock, as it tends to break easily (plastic).

I have a 940 and need to change mine and I think mine's a little easier but your video is a great help anyway - thank you. One small difference to note is that the OEM thermostat for the 940's at least has a housing with a little nipple that is supposed to be facing up when installed. The thermostat for the 850 appears to lack this housing on top.

If you remove the hose from the thermostat housing there's no need to remove the fuel line. Hose clamps are usually 7 mm socket. Thanks for the upload!

I think I just need to flush my radiator.. I just picked up a 94' Volvo 850 Turbo and love it! But it's over-using coolant and I've noticed a little debris/dirt in the expansion tank... Thanks for your video, will be flushing my radiator in the next few days! : )

@RuskyaMafia Yes, just 1 bottle of flush fluid and fill the remainder with DI water. DI water should be available at most automotive shops. Should typically be located near the coolant section.

Did you use a torque wrench to free up te thermostst nuts? Could you please do a video on the correct jacking points and points where to put your jack stands on a Volvo 850. The haynes manual doesnt indicate which positions are safe for jack stands.

@ccipherscope nope, no need to warm up the car. Best to do this while the car is cold.

I am having a little trouble with my Vovlo 850 2.5I-20V GLT (1994) At some point I noticed a big puddle under my right front tire (passenger side). I checked it out and found out it was the coolant. I filled it up with new coolant and started the engine. Everything seemed to be fine. I watched the engine run for 10 min. I noticed that the level of the coolant actually increased which surprised me. I then took it for a short drive around the block. When i stopped the car and took a look at the level of the coolant, the coolant at that point was spitting out of a crack on the coolant reservoir cap. The engine seems to run perfectly fine. Do you think this has to do with a defect thermostat? What is your opinion on this? Kind regards, Rick

+Rick Winson Does your coolant reservoir have a yellow tint near the hoses?
@knakker369 жыл бұрын
+Conrad Hale. Problem fixed. There was a crack in the cap of the coolant reservoir. This caused the radiator too loose its pressure. Put a new cap on and the problem was solved.

can i just drain the radiator and fill up with new. Drive some and then drain again untill clean coolant comes out instead of draining the engine? :)

@disnukka79 Yea, sorry i tend to be like that. I'm an engineer and I have to explain things down to the very small details. I try not to do that in my videos but i tend to get carried away.
