That's true, "underpowered" cars are cool to drive beacause you have to push youself to the best, I kind of learned to race in an old VW with more or less 100 hp, you had to switch gears so fast and preciley if you wanted to reach some speed, It was all the time switching gears. A more powerful car just make it unnecessary, there is most of the time enough power.

@JupiterxBlues Жыл бұрын
Personally, I like the sound of naturally aspirated BP engines over the aluminum block engines from hondas. Its the iron block and iron exhaust header that helps give it a deeper tone rather than the sharp high-pitched metallic sound that aluminum blocks and aluminum exhausts produce. Aluminum is better ofcourse, but the sound just doesn't hit right for me. High-pitched tones give me headaches. But that's a personal preference.

Love this car, for real! But swap an K serie engine on a Miata? Not my cup of tea... I actually like BP engine and would be super interesting to see a all forged bottom end. Also, Mazda heart on Mazda body.
@TheSlipAngle5 жыл бұрын
The problem is that by going with a forged bottom end I would only gain about 400 RPM, the difference between 8k and 8400 RPM is just not enough for me to go through with that much work. Look at the crank girdle on the K-Series vs the mains on the BP. There is just not enough support for high RPM. Honda cylinder heads flow better than just about everything else, which is the ticket for all motor builds. I'd also gain low end back being able to use VTEC, right now I am basically VTEC all the time which hurts the low end power lol. Plus they are lighter :)

Just hearing that sound raises my heart rate, I know what its like to full send a road like that, but seeing it done so confidently, like I can just tell almost how the car is set up through the screen, in the rear the antirollbar is really quite stiff, but the camber upfront helps the car to bite into corners really well. And the whole car is just soooo dang planted. I cannot wait till I can get an NB, my goal is by the end of the year to own one, my build will probably be pretty similar to this one for sure.

I know exactly where you were thrashing the car. I'm there all the time myself, that 12 miles stretch is a blast to drive! Bristol to Watertown, and Bristol to Torrington, all back roads, no traffic lights!

You are the one that inspired me to do something different other than turbo and build my miata for ITBs. I thank you for that

Really mesmerised with this Miata, specially that engine is quiet special. Loved that you kept the heart intact and made something unique out of it.

I don't know, the engine appeared quite loud to me. ;-)

Hahaha, seems like I'd accidentally made a fool out of my self. This'll remain between us two, alright? ;)

I love what you have done with this nb1... Beautiful build... Just bought a mint stock '99... I'm in love with it... I would like to eventually give it more power, but right now I am just enjoying the purity of it... I would love a bit more, but don't want to loose the poetry of this vehicle... Thank you for the inspiration

My NA was on the way to a build with this ethos. Suspension and engine were done. Interior was next. But alas, it was sold for an ND. And I'm now inspired to do interior on it!

I'm still so envious of this car. I am a NA miata guy personally currently loving a ND 2019. I would love this engine in a comparable 97'model

You can have all the power in the world and not be able to use it. This is a true drivers car and a fun one at that. It looks and sounds the business. I really love it, superb job.
