2017 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S PDK - One Take

Though the purists may not be down with Porsche's new "all turbo" lineup of sports cars, I have to admit - I'm on board with it. From the base Carrera which is now a legitimately fast car, to the new 4S, which I fell in love with during our week with the car. The Carrera 4S carries a bit more weight than the base car, but packs a 420 HP punch, incredible ride quality and handling, and the kind of practicality that would make me want to daily drive this thing through all four seasons. The Smoking Tire Podcast's Zack Klapman joins Matt for this review.

Greetings from Stuttgart :D At work I drive around all kinds of Porsche Parts on a Pellet Truck (had to google that word lol) Differentials, bits and pieces from the Inside, Transmissions and even Windshields. I'd say every morning I got parts on the pellet truck and forklift worth around 1.25M$. So in a way I am actually driving Porsche haha

once you hear the new 991.2 in person with the turbos, the sound is incredible for the turbo motor and you won't think as much about the previous 991.1s. And i tend to be more of a NA kinda guy (except for the 90s jap sports cars)

I live in CA and Prius drivers are notorious for being the most oblivious people on the road. (notorious among people who don't drive a Prius, don't shop at whole foods and didn't vote for Bernie).

In my opinion definitely not. It drives better and is more dynamic and the new PCM is better, but the naturally aspirated engine just sounded so much better and is in my opinion a lot more emotional to drive.

Yeah. While I had this press car I drove a modified 991.1. The turbo car would walk the NA car so fast it's a joke. Once you try the turbo motors the NA motor feels like it's dragging ass

Wow! Maybe it's more of an enthusiasts thing. I mean we just drove the 991.1 4GTS head to head against the new 4S and none of us chose the new 991.2 because of its lack of sound and emotion. It doesn't give you that smile the 991.1 did. But it was quite impressive how fast the 991.2 reached 200 km/h on the Autobahn.

+Kaipeternicolas if I didn't know the extra power was possible, I would say no I don't need it. But because I know the car can be that fast, there's no going back. The new Boxster/Cayman is the same way. The Turbo motor is so much faster it's ridiculous, and it's faster in ways you feel on the street more so than the track.

I have a 991 Turbo and a Merc as company car, so Merc gave me a AMG GT for testdrive in the hope to replace my 911. The AMG GT is a realy nice car, but the 911 has a driving style wich no other car could match. The 911 is like a tailor-made suit, everything fits perfectly and therefore you trust the car and can drive them realy sporty without nasty surprises. You always feel at were are physical limits and can drive the car at that limits. The 911 drives extrem direct wich only can be compared as touching something with and without gloves.

So fast forward, you have now driven the 992.1 and even the 992.2. Each of those is larger, faster, more technologically advanced and more $$$$. Considering those (I have allocation) vs the 991.2 Targa, I went with the 991.2, and could not be happier. The others are amazing cars, but i find the 991.2 just a more visceral experience. It puts a smile on my face.😊😊
