Laith, the reason people tell you giving land to your non heir sons is a bad idea is that they all get a claim on your title. So when your king dies, at least a few of them will try to form factions to claim your land. If you give them land, they have more troops to fight you.
@saitashi21512 жыл бұрын
Also: The Land gives them the Option to either amass Wealth and or Prestige (relevancy depends on Feudal or not). So if they hold Land for Long, they can build up there Armies, were as when they just Inherit the Land, they only have so much Time to accumulate Wealth.

Actually it was a common practice for ottoman sultans to grant a province to their children. These provinces were called sanjaks. The sultan would grant the closest sanjak to his favourite child so that he'd make it to the capital first become the next sultan. That's how ottoman succession actually worked. He would not verbally declare his heir.

You're not exactly wrong with saying people undertake hajj to gain piety. From where I came from, the titls of Hajj is usually added in front of the names of the person. And if they're running for an election it's considered as an advantage for the majority of old people because it means the person is pious and able (have enough wealth, so is considered is able to manage business and people). But it doesn't prevent them from corruption, just like how some people can undertake Hajj without following the queue (which now is years from signing up until you're notified that you can go that year). Kinda ironic in my opinion

The one bad move is to give them to your heir, as you can end up losing some of your Man-at-Arms on succession as they'll make their own, and the ones you previously had are added to that. So if you have 6 max level ones and your heir had 2 low level ones, you are going to lose 2 of your max level ones for nothing.

You should give lands to your non-heir children, but not your heir. Land given to heirs before death counts towards there inheritance on realm succession, so you can ensure your heir gets everything they should by setting up second and third sons with backwater duchies on the edge of your realm
@PasOdMater2 жыл бұрын
The reason not to give stuff to your heirs past the claims and factions they'll make is that they'll get embroiled in all the politics that having them just chill in your court spares them from. A lot of time if you do that you'll have your heir do stupid things while the AI was controlling him and you'll be stuck fixing them for most of his remaining life.

You want to give land to your like top ~2 heirs in succession, so they start to build up prestige - 2 in case the top one dies. Apart from that they get claims on your kingdom so if there's tonnes of them with power kicking around that's fast track to civil war after succession. Plus side is with some family dynasties it will make your land and realm stronger because all the renown compounds with greater effect I think, and included in that would be bonuses to opinion, and as house head you can more easily subdue them. And if they are powerful they have more kids, therefore you get some more renown for a large family and / or can marry off more family members to diplomatically take thrones, or can more easily genetically engineer your dynasty. I.e. I believe if they were disinherited and then given land then it would be pretty much all upsides, it's mainly because they get claims on main title that it becomes a problem. Also when it comes to giving out titles, it does weaken the vassals and also weakens you because you get a percentage of the troops they get, which is filtered through their vassals, and also them being more divided means they can develop their lands less which again over time means you could end up weaker. I don't believe it's significant though either way.

If you give lands to your sons it will be more harder to disinherit them and if you don’t disinherit them they will take parts of your realm on succesion if you don’t have a law that gives it to a single person and even if you do have such a law they will still have claims and be able to form a faction to take those claims from you, there is people that say normal vassals will do the same but this is not true because for one that is not your relative to get a claim on your kingdom they would have to have The Meritocracy perk from stewardship ideas, or to inherit a claim through a marriage, or through the descision that requires them to own most of your lands and a few other ways, all of these non relative claimants are more easily dealt with and in general will happen way less then relatives.
