I see my hair as a plant. I named her Lavender. I feel like after naming her there was DEFINITELY a mental shift because I felt more attracted to her. “Oh Lavender you’re looking a bit dry today, do we need to moisturize tonight?” “Lavender you look pretty good today, I’ll just tuck you away so you won’t get damaged, okay?” “Kind of want to show off Lavender today, she’s looking so good” Even when I’m frustrated, I try not to put that energy in my hair. I try to be patient with her and gently take my time. If she doesn’t want to be a certain way, Im not going to force her. She is my plant baby. I want to show her I love her through and through, even when I am frustrated. I think that is important. Lavender has grown and flourished as I began to think of her this way, and be more loving towards her. I think many if not all of us could adopt this mindset of self loving our hair despite the hardships

My girlfriend has 4C hair... and I subscribed to your channel a year or so ago to get another perspective. It pains me when I see her struggle with “not getting good hair.” Though... that’s not my interpretation of it. It’s part of what makes her beautiful to me. On a more somber note, she’s attempted suicide twice in the last 15 days (not due to her hair... but due to family issues, society, and never being taught how to adult by her parents. She’s currently being held at a crisis center. She’s so talented... with art, and so great with dogs. Anyway, I’m beginning to ramble. Thank you for your content.... ❤️

I never do this,. I dont tell people about my negative past, but please tell her this, SHOW her this. I to have tried, and failed to leave this earth. It was the best and the worst experience of my life. The worst being I was never as low as when I was I the hospital with people who were genuinely crazy, locked in there with them. This was bottom and the best part of it was there was no where to go but UP from there. YES you might be sad but know that you are worth fighting for. No you are not crazy, yes something is wrong but you are not crazy. You will learn new and healthy coping strategies, you will learn to be brutally honest with yourself and with the people around you and also WHEN to do it because of course all that does not come overnight. It sounds terrifying but it is the MOST FREEING thing to tell the truth!!! All this comes with letting people HELP you, letting people LOVE and Loving yourself. I promise it gets better and there will come days that you will be so grateful that you saw that day, or met that person,or made that accomplishment or enjoyed that holiday. You will be grateful to be alive. NO everything will not be completely rosy, ABSOLUTELY NOT, but you will learn tools to help you get through it all and know that you are so so so so worth it. You were worth the labor pains that brought you here, absolutely no one can replace you and it would be devastating to lose a 1 of a kind person like you. so fight for yourself. Take every day 1 day at a time, and if it is a bad day, it will be over. Tomorrow is another day and it WILL get better. But you will have to choose better to get there. Choose life, you are worth fighting for. I have been here 21 yrs beyond my attempt (exactly half my life) and I am so glad to be here. It goes faster than you think. I have seen people from birth to adulthood in that time and it was amazing, I am glad i am here to know them.

Idk. I just find it weird how we say 4c or type 4 hair in general is the hardest to deal with. How is a hair type that you literally don't have to wash more than once a week and can hold a style for weeks the hardest to manage? When you think about it, the 1h- 2h we spend on our hair during wash day is equivalent to the time that straight haired people have to spend cumulatively throughout the week, as they wash and blowout their hair almost daily(20-30min a day). That's just how I choose to look at it.🤷🏾♀️

I use to be the same way for years I did every hair style except wear my hair in its natural state. That is because of the environment I grew up in, I was surrounded by people who didn't look like me.... with that there was a lack of confidence because I didn't look like the other girls. Now I'm 27 and finally embracing my hair. I use to not like the way I looked with my natural hair, "back then" it wasn't popular to have your natural hair. Girls weren't doing this 'natural hair journey.' Now that I do, no one can tell me anything. I feel sooooo much more confident with my own hair. Thank you for breaking this down for the folks in the back! It's a journey and ppl don't realize it. Getting familiar with with your hair and learning to appreciate and love thin fine hair (because it's sparse and fine NOT because it's kinky or course) a process for me. I thought i would have thick hair when I went natural (because that was the only form of natural hair that I had seen back in the early 2000s). I found myself being disappointed with most hairstyles i tried when it didn't come out as big as i had hoped. I went from straight weave to Jeri curling to wearing kinky clip ins then I realized it was making even more disappointed with what my real hair looked like. I finally just stopped having unrealistic expectations and started focusing on keeping my hair healthy and simple hairstyles then 💥 BOOM! MY LOVE affair with my hair was/is in full bloom! P.s. I am one of those cool kids moving during a pandemic!!!

Can you make a video of this format about loving your dark skin? These videos are so therapeutic for me and my hair as a young black girl and id love to spread that love to my skin tone too. Ive just felt like unless i have lighter skin, I'll never be pretty enough to compete with girls lighter than me (whether that be a lightskin black girl or an asian girl or a white girl). It's like I've resigned myself to being uglier because im an unambiguous black girl and being a black girl means i can only be certain things. I cant be alternative in any way, i cant be soft and feminine, guys are never interested in me. etc etc. Thanks fof reading!!

I get what you mean, I never thought I had any skin color issues (the only moment I constantly referred back to was one time in primary school when I was 8 when I looked in the mirror, imagined myself white, went "nah" and I thought that was it- it started and ended right then as far as my memories were concerned) I only recently realised that I had internalised colourism and racism. I never thought that I was unattractive growing up, rather I was pretty confident about my looks yet that was always at home or around other black people yet when I was at school with girls of other ethnicities , or when I would watch mostly white shows growing up, I had this subconscious unspoken understanding almost that side by side, I couldn't compete- I'm only attractive in a limited circle and that's the way it is which was a really weird switch between the me I saw in the mirror that I liked and this lowly, humbled sense of my appearance I'd automatically feel around lighter girls

I feel you because I went through some of that but I knew that it would be hard and that it was going to be work. I am a lot like you because I turn wash day into a spa day and take care of me that day. I was nodding my head for most of the video saying "yup". Many people don't know how real the struggle is but it is all worth it. I love my hair :)

Hair may not be considered “bad”, but it could be considered damaged or unhealthy. It goes beyond simply throwing product on it hoping it can improve.....which I’m learning. My hair is going through a very similar transition. It may have a slightly looser curl but it looks very similar otherwise. In NYC my hair was fuller with tighter cuter curl pattern and I was using Shea moisture which it was thriving under in addition to having a carnivorous leaning diet due to access to organic meat and high quality food. But since joining the military and being sent to the South, my hair changed - the curls loosened, it got very thin, and it breaks off easier and even develop split ends even in the middle of the shaft or base, no matter how much money I spend on products, expensive products even from Sephora.....I can’t even use most Shea moisture or other things I used at home because these things would just make my hair feel extremely dirty even right after washing which drove me crazy! So I probably spent over $100 experimenting seeing what can make my hair feel natural, not dirty. But mind you, I am in a different climate/environment, drinking diff. Water quality, and eating mostly a vegetarian diet because I do not eat cafeteria meat, nor low grade/fast food meat (protein and iron are a lot less in my diet). This was step 1, throwing money into products. The closest products I found to bring my hair to feel the most normal and healthy I can get it to has been Olaplex, which is sold in Sephora (yes it’s expensive but works) and is meant for the most damaged hair. So this is a step. What I didn’t know, is that hair health is also based on body health and diet in addition to what products you use and how you use it. It clicked when I watched this other lady’s video the other day about overcoming hair damage (even if no heat or chemical was used on it). She and her doctor discovered she was lacking nutrients in her body such as Vit. D, protein, and iron (she used to be raw vegan, then regular vegan, and that’s when her hair was becoming damaged). It’s also about diet/body health. So if you changed your diet in the past few years or went veg, that could explain your struggle with your hair. Now I refuse to eat cafeteria meat so I’m going to remain mostly vegetarian until I get to a big city where higher quality organic food is more accessible so I must deal and probably now have to take iron and whatever supplements (luckily, there’s now a food truck on base that serves homemade chicken, so I am getting some iron/protein). Annnywaaayyyy, watching a lot of these videos, your hair is getting a bit thicker so it seems to me you are moving in a good direction. Adding a water based product before an oil/moister based product is definitely the way to go, keep doing that. Don’t get lost in all kinds of crazy products but keep it min to a few basic natural or organic products - 1. shampoo, 2. conditioner, 3. deep conditioner, 4. leave in, 5. moisture, 6. oil based. Plus consider your diet. ....as for me, I still have a way to go. My hair is completely changed from this major transition in my life, and I’m definitely working on getting it back to normal, even if it means potentially getting a boy cut and starting all over. Btw, cute plant.

Hair is neither bad or good, it's just your hair. Take care of it as it is yours and make it look the best for you! As I struggle with my head-top also, I realized that treating my hair with so much negativity only made it harder for me to take care of it. Now that I've kicked these feelings to the curb and now have a more neutral viewpoint, I've taken better care of it. I respect myself and my hair to do my best with it and I'm satisfied. Everyone has their struggles with their hair too, yes even the person with the hair type that you've been lusting over has a couple of things they don't like about their hair! Take care of it, experiment, have it long, short etc. Just never give up on it because it's yours. :)

I am French and I didn't add a lot of compliments on my hair natural . It is maybe because white people in France want to be black in a way (black fetishism is more extreme) , and it wasn't hard for me to love them and I have all the 4 in my head. There always stars but it ok because I wanted to love my body and not be that white washed girl(in France most of French African do braids or texturize , and people with 3 hair didn't accept them before it is just those 5 last year that hair type 3 became loved ).

These four steps are actually really good for any part of our body or emotional/spiritual stuff we are working thru. As I was listening to the video I found myself wanting to use these four steps for my self esteem and confidence challenges that I've been facing. Also of course we want to see the new place if you have the energy to film any of that! Thanks for another great video. You're so dope 💞

My daughter has hair like you. We struggled because she is only one of her sisters with house with this type hair. We discovered a product called photogenic last October and I took a chance. It was life changing. She’s 8 and currently rocking an Afro without me being afraid of tangles and dryness. It also growing which is something I struggled with because its fine and would break.

I have the same hair as you, except high porosity. Since quarantine my hair has been in bantu knots all day erryday. Spritz with water in the morning and at night, because it loses moisture so easily. The only time I really mess with it is when I'm washing or moisturizing. Keeping it in twists doesn't retain moisture, so bantu knots works better. I think the tightness of the bantu knots keeps moisture in and keeps the ends from getting dried out or damaged even though they're in twists. I have other issues; trichotillomania and alopecia, so a third of my head is picked out, a third fell out, but the parts that are still there, have been flourishing. The "hard type" is rough, but it takes some time to learn what it needs.
