Urban Stealth Camping With Hammock In Residential Area

I secretly set up camp in a forested area, trying to remain as silent and undetected as possible due to the legal nature of random camping in the city. I finally tried out my cheap solid fuel stove and it worked very well. Made dinner, had some pretty good beer appropriately called "Happy Camper". I decided I should have a small fire as the night continued. Just me on my usual camping adventures :) Hunker down my friends.

I don't think grylls stays in hotels, it would be impractical to travel from someplace like fairly deep in the Amazon to the local Hilton every single day. Granted his team does their prep, and lays out the course grylls will be following, but for the sake of practicality and expense once he sets out he's committed. Besides he's former SAS.

Norway... Loved it, did a bicycle tour back in the early 80s one summer, cycled from Oslo to Bergen and back. Camped every night in the woods, free, no hassles, drank the water direct from the lakes. Serious mosquitos, Great time. Lost my watch, never knew what time it was in the mornings, I would get up cycle get to a store and see what time. I need to revisit that trip, should do that in the next year before I'm 70 :-).. Im from the US.

Man, I'm 31 now and ive lived like this for basically 17 years. Of all these kind of channels yours is the best as you get across that nervousness of being caught and your videos have a legitimate feeling to them. Basically you've inspired me to start my own channel for how to do this in England where it's illegal to wild camp anywhere in the country but hundreds of people have no choice but to do so. Maybe I can help some people steer themselves out of shop doorways and Into safer more secluded areas.

I once lived for many years, on traveller sites (UK mostly) until late 1997, when harassment became intense. It's so weird everywhere is blocked-off today..every field, drove, lane, common land. Hi, I clicked on the video because it reminded me of a time 30 odd years ago when I was hitchhiking and working in Europe. I would follow the harvests and seasonal work, grape picking in France, apple picking in Greece, hotel work in Switzerland. I would here of work and hitchhike my way towards it. Sometimes it could take all day to get a lift and I might end up being dropped off late at night with no chance of a ride. I would do a quick 360 and find somewhere to set up a tent or just get my mat and sleeping bag out. There would typically be some cover nearby but i think my favourites were a massive roundabout near the motorway in Italy, plenty of shrubs and small trees for cover and at 2am very little traffic so easy to access. A different story in the morning when I had to try and get of the round about to be on my way. Always get up early before most people are on the move is key to successful stealth camping😁. In Greece I camped in a partially built house’s garage and woke up to a large Greek family looking down at me, fortunately one of the children had been learning English at school. I explained myself to this bewildered family who one they understood insisted on taking me into their home and feeding me. I didn’t know at the time that a lot of houses in Greece were unfinished because it helped a lot with their property taxes. I did this for a little over a year and I have never felt so alive and free, anyway this is a long way of thanking you for triggering my nostalgia it sure put a smile on my face 👍👍👍👍.

Hi Steve! I love to stealth camp in a nearby state park which is closed at 7pm. I carry the smallest backpack which looks like a school backpack for a boy but it is a woodland camo. My stove is exactly what you have I picked up at a military surplus outfit for 5 bucks. Also bought a a dozen Trioxane cubes. The trick to lighting them is to scrape the top it with your EDC pocket knife: never carry a knife on your belt unless it can be hidden (hard to do in the summer wearing shorts and a tee). The particles light very quickly which lights up the remaining cube. I'm surprised you didn't use your four dinner foil container for the burrito as well. Pour a little amount of water into the bottom and place your aluminum foil wrapped burrito into the container, place a sheet of foil or the original paper cover you extracted on top; the steam will warm your burrito adequately. My tarp is the USMC MARPAT (marine pattern), the hammock a Snugpak with bug net and I use one of those green reflectix emergency blankets (11 bucks at Walmart) for an under blanket secured with 550 paracord or #36 bank line. There have been some stealth camp sites where I used a 5X7 camo net to disguise my set up. Stealth camping is a learning tool for me: packing light taking only absolute essentials, being totally in tune with your environment and deciphering sounds in the dark.

The transients used to be much more stealthy when I was a kid. And there was less of them. I've spent well over a year's worth of nights (350+) in my Hennessy hammock. It's funny b/c you're using the same pack as I have as well, for the past 4 years. I did a 6 month permaculture venture in latin america. One of the wild horse ranches I worked at ordered 3 hammocks after my visit. Those items & a compact sleeping bag is a perfect answer for mobility on trips, when you don't have the money for a hotel or even a hostile. Sometimes bussing cross-country you get dropped off at night after-hours, and your only option is to dive into the jungle or forest like Steve is. I also did a 6 month survival stint near the Redwoods California border with such basic equipment. The common hobo stove is invaluable for a quick coffee or meal. You'd never catch me out there without knives, headlamp(s), or a firestarting kit. Thanks for sharing Steve!

Good morning Steve, for those "suspicious time" on the trail with a large pack, you could always say that you're training for a long haul hike. Therefore you want to use your big pack with all your gear so that you're training with the proper weight in it.

"T-cup" candles melted down with a cotton ball installed can last up to 30 minutes or more. One will boil your water. I use them as fire starters. They even work immediately after being submerged in water. I dig a knife into it pulling up a makeshift wick and light it. They can be extinguished and reused like a candle should the need arise. Your tent needs camouflage the triangular straight lines are not consistent with what's found in nature.

@@keelanesquivel3854 I put T-cup candles on a hot plate to melt the wax. Then I place a single cotton ball into the melted wax after removing the wick. Once the wax Fry's it can be lit like a candle. The difference is the entire cotton ball acts as the wick in turn causing a much larger flame lasting long enough to even start wet wood. Hope this helps.

We called those heat tabs in the Marines. Used them forever. They make a canteen cup that fits around a canteen and then a small stove that goes with it. All in one small package with a quart of water.

Back in the late 80s/early 90s, me & bunch of friends would often camp out at our local neighborhood park. It wasn’t legal BUT back then nobody complained. The park had charcoal BBQ grills so we’d use them to roast hotdogs & use them as makeshift campfires. Cops would drive by but they never harassed us. I couldn’t imagine doing that now with all the Karen’s around smh.
