O M G! What have you guys got me into? This is my first time hearing this band. It was phenomenal. I looked on Spotify and this particular song is number 5 in their most played songs and they have tons of live stuff on there. They are going on my playlist. Thank you for introducing me to this band. I’m going back in both Aussie Weeks and find more great bands. George, happy you enjoyed live Nightwish in LA. So sorry Alex couldn’t make it. Robert.

Dave Bligh on harmonica was never part of the band, per se, but he toured extensively with them. Saw them many many times in the 80s, and still have the tinnitus to prove it, courtesy of a gig at the Thebarton Town Hall where Jimmy was 15 feet above the stage standing on the huge stacks, and Mossy got some wild feedback. As for people who talk through sets, I wanna kill ‘em all…

Bow River. Khe Sahn. Cheap Wine. Flame Trees. Breakfast At Sweethearts. These songs are imprinted on most Australians eardrums. Cold Chisel are a very very important Australian band. In a way having them the best kept secret in the history of rock n roll feels nice. But they are truly a gift for all to enjoy.

Great Aussie "Pub Rock" Band.. Founded in my home town, Adelaide, South Australia.. Harp player is David Blight, a wonderful player and gentleman. Plays around blues gigs around town still.. (and with these guys). And Mossy's voice is amazing, him and Barnsey together is magic. And this is a great version.. good pick.. But personally, "Saturday Night" is the epitome of Cold Chisel for me, World Class song with World Class production and sound.

Alex, you unknowingly channeled Aussie music icon Ian "Molly" Meldrum when you said "do yourself a favour", check out Aussie music. Molly was the host of Countdown (think Aussie Top of the Pops), and would promote the latest band with the phrase, "do yourself a favour". The phrase originated because he couldn't tell people to go buy the album (due to the channel's advertising rules). Aussie week 3 is a must. There's plenty more, and so many groups you haven't touched. Skyhooks, Sherbet, Hunters and Collectors, Crowded House, so many more I can't think of right now. If I was to suggest a list, it would be: 1. Horses - Daryl Braithwaite 2. My Island Home - Warrumpi Band 3. Throw your arms around me - Crowded House (the live version from the farewell concert at Sydney Opera House) 4. Horror Movie - Skyhooks 5. You're the Voice - John Farnham (the unofficial national anthem) 6. Good Times - Jimmy Barnes and INXS (Australia Live version)

Here with Ian Moss & JB & Cold Chisel & with John Farnham and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra & Live Aid with Queen. I remember the Aussie pub rock scene in Melbourne from the early seventies….1973 onwards. Great groups like Madder Lake, Chain, Mondo Rock with Ross Wilson, The Strangers, Spectrum. Croxton Park Hotel, etc.. Rock At The Crock. Village Green. The Waltzing Matilda. In 1976 I was incredibly lucky to see the early genesis of the Oils when they were playing a lunchtime gig at a Perth pub and hardly anyone there in the audience with Peter Garrett up front. You just knew they were going places. What an exciting time!

You could go on with our music for a l-o-n-g time ! My three artist suggestions for another time: *The Teskey Brothers - 'Hold Me', LIVE at the Forum in Melbourne, "Man of The Universe', 'Let Me Let You Down'. * Vanessa Amorosi - 'Take a Look', LIVE, 'Heroes Live Forever 'at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, 'Shine'. *Hunters And Collectors - 'Holy Grail', 'Throw Your Arms Around Me', 'When The River Runs Dry.' All can be seen in concert. And isn't Ian Moss fantastic on vocals and guitar? He and Jimmy shared the vocals in Cold Chisel. I have thoroughly loved you reactions in Weeks1&2 of Aussie music. MORE! You could easily do a week of Chisel and just scratch the surface. The world missed one of the truly great bands becasue of idiotic record execs. Checkout 'You've got nothing I want' to find out what Jimmy thinks of them. On another note, you mentioned the wiggles earlier in the week. I saw them as a pop band supporting the Hoodoo Gurus back in the 80's. Maybe you should do a reaction to them when they were called the Cockroaches kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWLaq3mbeK9lmsU or live a few years ago kzbin.info/www/bejne/h33MgXyFrs98pJY

This is my theory on Cold Chisel: The two 'front men' were two great looking guys, one the loveable nice guy and one the loveable bad boy each with extraordinary vocal talent that sounded even better together.... Plus Don Walker's incredible songwriting... and the whole band are tight forged from endless pub gigs. They were always going to be a success.

Hi guy's you need to do a week 3 Bow River an anthem of the 80's but you missed 1 of the biggest songs an anthem of the 70's with Evie Parts 1,2&3 by (Stevie Wright of the Easybeats) it goes for like 8 minutes and so fantastic. Plus Living in the seventies (Skyhooks) then there is Renee Geyer ( Like A Natural Woman) and more Divinyls (Pleasure & Pain) then there is Wolfmother ,Jet, SpiderBait most recently from the 90's and 00's I'm sure there are another 5 fantastic songs you could get from Chris before you move on to Bowie week and the others you have in mind. Again great channel keep up the good work you both are doing so as IB would say F**k You To The Moon Cheers Guy's

I worked at WEA Records during the 'Chisel era. They were their premier Oz act at the time, no disrespect to the other local acts, who were forces in their own right. We got the tip one afternoon to be a certain pub that night, about the time of the Circus Animals album being released. It turned out that Cold Chisel, as "the Barking Spiders", were performing the album in public for the first time, Bow River included. We were pretty good disciples, seeing them play as often as possible around the traps, but the new material was a knockout, very strong and well played, supported of course, by their long list of established classics. As a bonus, the crowd being drawn last minute by word of mouth was comfortably sparse for a change, whereas the bar was fully staffed on the night. 😜 (Special mention to support band on the night, "Torchy and the Battery Boys", {Mental As Anything} who absolutely cooked with a strong set of their own material.) Great time to be a punter... Just reading some other comments, an unsubstantiated rumour that did the rounds at work when the band went to the US, was that the American execs. would like them to be more towards the direction of Foreigner, another company act. To draw a Titanic comparison, if Foreigner were the "Cold as Ice"berg, 'Chisel in performance were the boiler room at full steam ahead, hell bent on destruction. It was never gonna happen. Like I said, just a rumour at the time... Loving your reviews, thanks guys.

Well said. Because Australia is so small, pub bands would be quickly turfed out, so you had to be good to last the limited gigs. That’s why we got used to hearing top level on a Saturday night. Sorry to say ( not really😂) but so many UK pub bands wouldn’t even get one gig on the tight number of live venues. So Cold Chisel guys all had to pay their dues in a small and demanding fire pit.

We really were spoiled in the 80's with so many world class (pub rock) bands. They did their apprenticeships working hard, working often and experimenting to crowds of drunken Aussies all across the country. My 23 year old daughter and her friends went to a Cold Chisel concert 2 years ago and were so excited it was like going back in time when I was that age and being just as stoked to be going to a Cold Chisel concert. I reckon most young Aussies today would know the words to every CC song right now, even though they were written before any of them were born. I went to a Jimmy Barnes concert in Darwin about 10 years ago and over 1000 millennials knew every word of every song he sang. It gobsmacked me and he was bloody good too. Also you mentioned Oxbow Lakes...... when I was in high school we had a geography test and every kid in the class answered one question with 'BILLABONG'. Every kid got the answer wrong. The teacher said the answer was 'OXBOW LAKE. "What's an Oxbow Lake we cried? A billabong!! she says. WTF?? Apparently a billabong is not the correct geographical answer. "So once a jolly swagman camped by an Oxbow Lake". Great lyrics NOT. Anyway loved that you two loved Australia Week 2 we have a multitude of incredible bands and artists to discover. Cheers from Oz.

I am extremely fortunate to have grown up in this era when we used to see Cold Chisel, AC/DC, INXS, The Angles, Midnight Oil, LRB and others in the pubs around Sydney We were spoilt rotten with tallented bands and as a result we were a pretty tough audience so if you didn't have your sh*t together the crowd would let you know. I was leaving a Cold Chisel gig one night in '81 and saw a poster for INXS and thought "Who the hell are the Inkses" Derrrr. Akka Dakka, LRB & The Inkses went on to enjoy world wide fame but there was no topping Cold Chisel for me and to this day i can't believe they didn't get the world wide fame they deserved.
