As a belgian myself, i can say that beer flows trough our blood. We grow up with it and it is one of the things that our country is most proud of. That’s why it hurts me seeing the beers not being served in their respective glasses 😢 but still a great video 😁

As a Belgian woman, I lived in Ireland (Cork) for a year, and I was always so proud because you guys LOVE our beers. I could find Orval cheaper than in Belgium, and my Irish friends used to cook Irish stew with Chimay beer.

Belgian here (also ex-brewer, super-cliché) and it always brings me so much joy seeing people from other countries enjoying and appreciating our craft. If you guys liked the Straffe Hendrik, then be sure to get your hands on the Straffe Hendrik Heritage, which is the 11% aged in barrels of varying origins (a new version gets released each year), but im afraid it won't be easy to import it. Also a honorable mention to Gouden Carolus whisky infused (blended with the brewery's own Belgian single malt), which is the best Belgian beer in my opinion. PS: De Halve Maan needs to update their label, as they're not the only active brewery in Bruges anymore. There's also Bourgogne des Flandres, which makes delicious brown beer, blended with lambic.

Gouden Carolus is zeker super lekker. Er is ook een heel lekker Nederlands Limburgs kloosterbier geheten Gerardus, die hebben een super goede dubbel, echt perfect na een lange wandeling in de zomer.

And that's before taking into account any differences arising from brewery equipment, times, temperature, , conditioning, etc. While I absolutely love ABT 12, with all things being equal, very rarely have I seen anyone pick it over Westy 12 in a blind tasting.

Corsendonk used to be my favourite back when they made Abbey Pale Ale. It was like an alcoholic (9% Abv I think) vanilla ice cream soup. Unfortunately they don’t brew that anymore and their beer has become sadly generic. On principle you’re right, Belgium makes good beers. An old story was Belgium has so many unique beers that you could drink one a day starting 1 January and still have not tried them all by December 31st.

As a belgian🇧🇪, i absolutely love this video, our country is so small so any sign of recognition i personally always enjoy and appreciate. Belgian beer brewing goes back to the medieval ages, many of the best belgian beers have been crafted by monks in christian monasteries for centuries. Here in belgium, we have a greatly historic and unique culture about drinking beers together. The older generations will be able to tell you stories about every town or village having around 50 to a 100 different cafés where everybody socialized and drank together. In the city of Leuven, the home of AB inBev, beer is transported through massive underground pipes akin to actual tapwater systems, so its safe to say that belgians value their beer as much as they value their water 😂. AB inBev is also the largest beerbrewing company in the world, having a catalog of 630 different beers and supplying to 150 different countries. Being the brewers of globally popular brands like; Stella Artois, Corona and Budweiser, AB inBev is estimated to produce one third of the global amount of beer produced per year. (In 2017 the company produced 613 MILLION HECTOLITERS of beer and 1 hectoliter = 100 liters 🍻) If you’re into beer at all, you should really try some belgian stuff. I personally recommend these beers (with some nice homemade fries and stewed beef or boar meat and freshly whipped up mayonaise if you want to turn it up a notch) : Orval, Omer, Westmalle Trappist, St. Bernardus (especially the new tripel hop citra with a lime wedge🤤), Tripel Karmeliet, La Chouffe, Gouden Carolus, Bush beer, Straffe Hendrik, Chimay, Delirium, Kwak, Rochefort, Lupulus and there are hundreds more to try. If you’re feeling adventurous, Belgium is a great place to visit for some fun. Either to eat the original and best -french- *BELGIAN* fries or to enjoy a delicious beer, Belgium surely will find her way to make you enjoy her as you like (mostly drunk🥴😂) Thank you to anybody who read this rambling about my culture, i hope it might have been informative or entertaining😅. P.s However, please give that Orval some proper love with a good glass, us belgians are really picky about giving a beer its right glass.

If you ever get a chance to go to Belgium again, try and get your hands on pralines from 'The Chocolate Line'. This is right about the best Belgian chocolate you can find and it's still rather affordable. They've been voted as 'Best Chocolatier' of Flanders.

Chimay Blue and Duvel blonde. Although I had a Duvel triple hop (limited release) one time and it was also pretty good. But ALL Belgian beers are very good! Even Jupiler, which is sort of a Belgian Budweiser, is top notch when compared to a Budweiser.

I'm from the U.S..and all I drank is Belgium 🇧🇪 beers!! And I won't drank it unless I have the right glass for it. I try and tell people you have to have the right glass to really appreciate what you're drinking. And all my friends trip when I show them pictures of the beer I'm drinking and they think I just like fancy glasses..

Belgian beer is indeed the best in the world, especially the Trappist ales. I've never had a Westveletern 12, because I'm in Canada, but it's my white whale. But, St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the best beer I have ever tried. Quadruples are divine . Loved this video, would like to see them try more!

It's actually the same recipe. They use water from a different spring and different yeast. Strangely, st Bernardus uses the original westvleteren yeast (they used to brew it together with the monks, before the rules became more strict) and the monks use a yeast from Westmalle, another trappist monastery. So there is a difference in taste, but a small one.

I became best friends with some Belgians back in the 1990s (peers in grad school) and they'd bring me home every year to drink as the Belgians do. I recall (to the extent I can recall) one afternoon in Veurne (Flanders) where we drank 11 Westmalle Tripels. I may or may not have propositioned my friend's mom. LOL. Also, I just realized Justine looks a LOT like my Belgian friend Trui -- similar mannerisms and sense of humor. Cheers!

Martin is right about the glasses, I died a bit inside seeing the beers poured out in these glasses. I actually have different glasses at home for the different beers. Westmalle Tripel is my favorite, although after having five one night I barely remember getting on the train and biking home afterwards.

As a belgian that almost had 200kinds of our beers, it kinda screws us when we're on holiday in different countries. I always try the beers and everytime i regret it 🤣. So its safe to say we cant drink beers abroad, so then i go for whisky 🤣🤣🤣 Cheers to the stocky guy thats been here, he just loves it and knew our glass-thing 🤣. Ofc at home you cant have all the brands but then you serve in a similar shaped beerglass

First rule when ordering an Orval, Ask if they have old Orval, there is a hudge taste (and color) difference when it's older then 1 year. I myself found differences up to 6 years, because the brewery burned down, and after they changed from copper to stainless steel vats.

wonderful beers these, a decent selection showing a few styles. a lambic would have been interesting to hear reactions to (maybe on a return trip) ive been to belguim quite a few times and always enjoyed the stay .. its a beautiful country
