Worth mentioning the Updated timing chain. Earlier ones are more prone to stretch, not sure when it was revised if it was either when the series 2 came out or earlier. But something to keep in mind for anyone buying an earlier model. I found this out the hard way 😂
@JacksonStrain Жыл бұрын
Yep I was actually meant to mention the timing chain bit somehow missed it. So in 2011 i believe is when they updated it though these still stretch often so it isn't as big of a upgrade as people make it since AK Racing said they do the timing chain on many 2011+ models too. It's mainly a time thing as eventually they'll all stretch but somehow I've been lucky with mine so far

Such great cars for sure even either minimal mods. You will get a CEL for an intake as you'll need a tune to run an aftermarket style intake, if you don't want to tune it just leave the stock intake as it is great and doesn't rob any power according to tuners until you get a bigger turbo

@Curtis if you're going for sound and looks just get a catback exhaust. But if you're looking for more power then you'd definitely need a tune. Be wary of cheap imitation parts. Early 4B11T's were prone to timing chain stretch as other comments mentioned. Another issue that the early Evo X GSR (specifically the 2008 model) had was in the trans. The pin in the center diff is known to have the bolt securing it shear, which causes the trans to grenade. The AYC rear diff is also fairly weak, I've had two break on me. And one last thing that probably isn't super common for Australia, but the AYC pump is known to have corrosion-related failures. Mitsubishi have done a 10yr/100k mile warranty extension (in the US) for that component, but we're down to only the 2013-15 model cars still having coverage. The last thing is more of an inconvenience for people, but often times the rod that goes from the key cylinder in the door to the door latch will get disconnected, so you're left unable to get into the car if your battery dies. Oh, and the 2015 models in the US didn't come with Recaro seats due to updated safety regulations. Apparently it was something to do with the airbags.
@JacksonStrain Жыл бұрын
Good info there thanks mate

that rod on key cylinder disconnected on me once when I came back to my car on an airport, battery dead and no way to get in the car. Paid around 100€ for a guy to come out and open it at like 2am. For rear diff situation I just swapped it to Ralliart LSD and changed the diff cover to RS one with bracing, it has been great since then. A bit of ETACS coding was necessary to let the car know it doesn't have AYC anymore but it was fairly straightforward.

@alexruka2 ай бұрын
I bought one of this but it's a rebadged from Proton - which is way more cheaper than the original Mitsubishi. The car is called Proton Inspira in Malaysia - kinda the last collab from Proton with Mitsubishi. Google the info, you might interested on doing some contents on this.
@JacksonStrain2 ай бұрын
We don't have those here in Australia, so we just have the full Mitsubishi range starting with base lancers, upper spec lancers then the Ralliart and the Evolution

Talk about the ayc pump, how do u manage to maintain it plus any garage recommaditions
@JacksonStrain Жыл бұрын
We don't really get the AYC pump issues here so much i think it's more of a snow and salt issue, finding a good workshop is definitely a great tip though
@bEEBO178 Жыл бұрын
You can't really maintain them but if they fail you can relocate the new one/refurbished with a kit. As Jackson said its the salt that kills them. The pump motor seizes up and the pressure drops. The solenoids can also fail.

@@JacksonStrain I wonder if you’d say the same about the gr Corolla. I live in the states so we don’t get the Yaris. The Yaris is far lighter then both the gr Corolla and evo 10 where as the Corolla and evo are similar in weight. The Corolla is probably more practical but I can’t help but wonder what AWD system is the better system.

I love my mr but have to sell cos of changing jobs and having to take a paycut. But my car is possessed and twice I try to sell it some random oddness happens. First time was a phantom code that caused me to do a full upgrade on the tranny, them now cos I decide to sell it for good it has a mystery tranny sound. Back at the specialty shop for what better be a warranty cover job. Well said about these cars, but what I think is top importance is to find a shop and mechanic you can trust and you know is good with these cars. If you don't have that, then prepare for misery. They can easily slide between being your pride and joy or the bane of your existence.
