Well everybody was waiting for Barbie and Oppenheimer, I was waiting for They Cloned Tyrone since that first trailer. Loved it so much

I honestly had no idea what to expect. I knew it was a movie and all I saw was the poster. Never even saw the trailer. So it completely caught me off gaurd in the most positive way!

The movie was great and deserves more accolades for the cinematography, the transitions, the humor, and mirror to society.

Definitely! I feel like movies like this only come out every so often. Truly an original piece of art.

Glad you’re back and I’m excited you’re doing a video on this particular movie! All I’m gonna say is They Cloned Tyrone definitely is going to be a modern day classic along the likes of Get Out (of course) and the recent movie The Blackening. I decided to search a little more, insights on the director, the cast, and more. For this to be Juel Taylor directorial debut is super impressive. When people talk about how influential Groundhog’s Day and its depiction on repeating the same cycle over and over again, this movie to me understood the assignment but it’s the relation to the Black community but specifically to African Americans. So many Easter Eggs in this movie. In a world post Jordan Peele Get Out and every director trying to have their “Get Out” esque moment, They Cloned Tyrone understood the assignment by not making it preachy or being a teachable moment for mainstream (white) culture. There are so many perspectives that you can listen to from other people who watched the film and it still makes sense. Aside from the themes like existentialism and nihilism, the cinematography aspect of the film is what drew me closer. The ode to 70s Blaxploitation movies and Jamie Foxx’s character mirroring the attire of Ron O’Neal’s Superfly. This movie was a fun experience and definitely one of my favorites. I wish it got a DVD release so I can watch the BTS and things of that nature.

I am back! And thank you. I also agree with everything you've said. You can see the influences from Peele, yet it's still refreshingly original. The cinematography in the film was next to flawless, especially for the story he was trying to tell. Like I mentioned in the video, I would've liked this even without the messages, that was just the cherry on the top. For this to be his first film was extremely impressive. Forsure one of the best I've seen this year and just in general. It kinda sucks to see it going under the radar in the mainstream because not only is it that good, but like you said some, could benefit from the message. Super glad to hear from you as always. Hope all is well! 🙏🏾

This movie hit hard when I started seeing the real message of the forced yet very subtle assimilation of black people. The casting was impeccable, and everyone gave it a really good go. It's a 10/10 for me.
@itakeonmovies Жыл бұрын
Same! Like I mentioned as soon as I understood the message the movie gave me an entirely different feeling. I went from purely having fun to having deep thoughts, lol. It remained enjoyable throughout though! Great movie. ✊🏾

Also, you're spot on about the cast. They couldn't have picked better actors for this movie.

@@itakeonmovies did you feel any kind of parallels with, or maybe compared against Sorry To Bother You?
@itakeonmovies Жыл бұрын
@SocialBobcat that's a great question. I think there are plenty of parallels thematically. I think Sorry to Bother You's focus was more on capitalist greed and power, but also how race factors into that. So, on the surface, the stories are different, but when you really think about it, They Cloned Tyrone has elements of power too, it's just in the form of control, control over a race. So, to narrow it down, I'd say both focus on the need to control people and both are essentially tackling areas in which blacks and people of color are basically forced to be anything other than themselves if we want to be successfully accepted in society. In Sorry to Bother you you become a literal workhorse. In They Cloned Tyrone you become a clone you. Both subservient and under the control of someone else.

I liked this movie. I was a bit uncertain about it and took a long time to convince myself to watch it. I was happy to finally see it! It was way better than I expected. Would definitely recommend others to check it out!

I was in the exact same boat. I knew very little about it, but it just looked like an attempt to mimick an old school blaxploitstion film. Within the first 15 minutes I knew this was gonna be more than that. Glad I watched it. Truly one of my favorites of the year. ✊🏾

Agreed. Tyrone WAY up there. Barbie, imo, is better than simply "a solid movie". IMO, it was the best movie- and the one we will most remember- of the year... But back TCT, it's an amazing flick.

Not good, but your mileage may vary. I don't think it ever decided what it was supposed to be, and never really got there for me. There were several points during which I said to myself, "I SHOULD be laughing right now, right?" It had all the elements, but it just kind of hung there, which isn't good when you're already asking people to give up 2 hours. I'll take Undercover Brother over this any day.
@rusone2516 Жыл бұрын
Lmao, why in the hell would I want to see Barbie as a grown man? And I'd rather read or watch a documentary on Oppenheimer. Movies just sensationalize real life stories, adding and taking away to make more drama.
@itakeonmovies Жыл бұрын
My guess is you, specifically, wouldn't watch Barbie, but I know a lot of people who did, grown men included. I think there are many reasons people watch movies, and the subject matter may only be one of those reasons. Oppenheimer, for example, has some of the best cinematography and acting you'll probably see all year.
