Applying Undercoat To The Z - Part 1

This week we begin the process of applying a rubberized undercoating to the Z! We go through removing the suspension, wire wheeling the wheel well area, and inspecting any rust areas.

Thanks for making content on the Z31! It's hard to find nice high quality videos of people working on this car. As someone who's currently going through patching out all the rust holes on a z31 shell, I'd recommend staying away from "rust reforming" spray paint. From my research and experience, none of them fully work and the rust will merely spread unnoticed and hidden behind paint. Using something like phosphoric or hydrochloric acid, washing it off, then painting with some epoxy primer or rust reformer is going to best way to guarantee that it doesn't spread. All that said, it looks like a very small rust spot, and you're probably fine to just spray over it. Just some advice in case you find any larger spots in areas too tight for a wire wheel. Great work and I cant wait to see how this turns out!

This z will be beautiful one day. Please please please please don't stop making content on this car. I know sometimes life gets in the way and obscures what the bigger picture is, so I appreciate you keeping the updates coming. I'll start documenting mine soon. You're a bastion of hope for people who want and have these cars, I'm not saying do anything you're not comfortable with but the sky is the limit with your car. Do whatever you want to it and we'll be here to watch. Well. At least I'll be. I watch all your videos as soon as they come out, you have a good thing going.
