Great tips! I bought a gravel bike a few years ago, rode around a few non-technical trails, and ended up selling it after two years as I wasn't using it enough and all my friends didn't have a gravel bike. Of course, now I'm wishing I had it again for some new trails I found! I took my road bike on the sealed part of the Kingaroy-Kilkivan Rail Trail last week. It was ok but definitely not as smooth as more suburban sealed paths in some places. Would have been perfect with a gravel bike!

It’s quite hard having a gravel bike in an urban area unless you’re willing to drive some distance to get to the off-road trails. For my cycling group I organise one gravel ride a month, can’t let the bikes collect too much dust.

Top looking bike there Chris! I love a Frankenstein bike, and by choosing random bits and bobs that work well together, or we’ll enough, you end up with a bike with a story, and at a better price-point😀. Body positioning is much more dynamic in MTB or gravel riding. You only learn that through doing, and that’s the fun part🎉. Enjoy

Chris fully embodied Frankenstein as well, spending many sleepless nights in the garage assembling the bike 🤣😂

I have only just ventured into gravel bike riding but however I'm not confident at all going over loose or bumpy surfaces. I'm also a lot bigger and when I fall it's a HARD fall.

Do you think the MTB has given you more confidence on the road bike? All my friends who MTB are very skilled.

@@joshkwan hard to say , I started riding BMX as a child and progressed to MTB in the 90s (which resembles a modern day gravel bike ) . By the time I started road riding in the 2000s it was an adjustment to ride super skinny tyres and long stems so riding road had it challenges as it was so sketchy to ride on bad roads and descend at speed

Agreed, if your body is rigid all the shock is absorbed into your body and you bounce all over the place.
