I'm the original owner of a '96 12V Ext Cab 4WD. It's never been wrecked and has pretty much been babied. Just placed an order for a 2022 3500 HO Aisin. Everyone is asking me if I'm going to sell my old one. Heck no! Will say though, just got back from a 5,000 mile trip to Glacier NP with my '96 pulling a camper. Prompted me to go ahead and pull the trigger on a new one. That old '96 just couldn't keep up with family members in their newer trucks. Good video. Take care!

fun fact dodge actually dabbled into the diesel world back in 1978 (and possibly 79) when they partnered with Mitsubishi and put the 6DR5 in the D100 and D200 and the B series vans. it totally flopped and there were only about 3,000 made because it was a N/A diesel that made less torque than the slant six at the time! back in the 60s they were also offering a Perkins diesel option in the trucks!!
@timothykeith13673 жыл бұрын
In 1939 Dodge produced a few 413 cubic inch inline six diesels in-house, but decided to purchase diesels from Cummins for the few road tractors that they built back then.

I have a 2000 Dodge 2500 HD 6speed 4x4. It is actually concidered a Gen 2.5. Was originally 245hp with a Dana 80 1 ton rear axle. I've had it since 2002, has about 205k miles. Rebuilt transfer case. Rebuilt and Upgraded transmission to '03 specs and 400hp clutch. Airdog Raptor lift pump relocated to frame rail under fuel tank. Larger duel fuel filters with water separator. Replaced injector pump with a quality rebuilt one with NEW electronics. (Old one was still pumping, but electronics were starting to fail, intermittently.) Recently upgraded the injectors to 275hp with new injector tubes and had lifter adjustment. Now it just needs a good paint job and wheels (Mickey Thompson Classic 3s) in order to like as nice as my '77 Airstream 30ft Excella 500, which needs a polish, lol.

I knew many a truck( big truck) that had the cummins 359 in them in the 70s, they ran a large pump that the p-pumps on the 96-97s resemble, but you could change shafts in the pumps to turn them up back then, they pulled 80,000 pounds along pretty good, and when i bought my first second gen truck, slt plus 3500 with all preferred package groups, a goegeous truck i spent way too much money on,, i didnt know the woes of the 48 re automatic, And that truck was a huge disappointment, , i had family members called me out asking why i didnt buy a powerstroke instead, and that person had owned two which i responded in a radio announcer voice,, ploworsmoke, cause it's either plowin, or it's smokin' he didnt find it funny, i've been a mechanic for years, i love anything exner period chrysler, and the torque flite is an excellent transmission for an old car, not so with sensors added, and in a truck designed for heavy weight , I now own a 97 ram 3500 i bought as a klunker, it runs circles around my 02 in reverse, It is ugly, i can fix that, it needs a five speed, as it only has 4th gear, a by product of the previous owners grandson beating on it on a regular basis, And it doesnt have all the top end stuff i paid a LOT for back then, but it sure is a good truck

Sam, I can tell you I enjoy my 21 2500 6.7 more than I did my 16 2500. Truck seems much happier, I personally think the the 3.73's gear compared to the 3.42's keeps the truck in a higher rpm, and the transmission isn't always looking for the correct gear. I also enjoy the dash change which was minimal, but I've owned a 14, 15, and 16 maybe I was just burnt out on the 4th gen style.
@allencanard9793 жыл бұрын
@chad Epperson, I agree with you, I loved my 17 and I absolutely LOVE my 21 laramie, there's more changed than just a front clip and dash. The trans seems to be more precise, its quieter going down the hwy at speed, steering is better, rides a little better, and between my 17 and 21, my 21 looks like it'll get a bit better mileage.
@chadepperson56093 жыл бұрын
@@allencanard979 I absolutely 💯 agree with that also. I was happy to see them go back to cp3, that was one of the main reasons I didn't want a 19 or 20 cp4 problems. Does your 21 seem to have a tighter turning radius than your 17? Maybe its just because a new truck.
@allencanard9793 жыл бұрын
@chad Epperson, I had absolutely no plans for getting a new truck because of the cp4 on these new ones and I was on KZbin on a Wednesday night at around midnight and a video popped up titled "did ram go back to a cp3 for 21?" I was on the phone the next day and in my new truck that Saturday. Funny you ask about the steering, the salesman was in the back seat on the test drive when I made a u turn and when she saw what I was getting ready to do she said watch how much better this one turns than your 17 and it does.
@allencanard9793 жыл бұрын
@chad Epperson, oh and also for anyone who says it's the same truck as a 4th gen, I can tell you ranch hand running boards for a 4th gen will not fit a 19 up. So there was 2 parts to the 2nd gen. They introduced it in 94 and in 99 they redid the interior. In 94-98 they had the old style metal mirrors. 99-02 they had plastic fold out mirrors. The 3rd gen got rid of the EGR because cummins figured out that they can cut cam duration off the back side of the exhaust lobe and it created a natural hot EGR. And hot EGRs have no soot issue because the soot never cools down and accumulates.
@VBELTandSON3 жыл бұрын
98-02 new style interior and opening back doors. Tow mirrors were an option. Not all of the later ones had them. And hot egrs still have soot build up. I’ve cleaned plenty. Still a rough idea throwing that much heat into the intake

727 was the best auto trans dodge has ever made behind the cummins. Best trucks in my oppinion are 98 second gen 12 valve and 06 mega cab. But i definitely agree 14-18 fourth gens are great, just wish you could get the aisin in the 2500s. And yes they dont make a fifth gen cummins yet. But when they do i hope it has a zf or allison in the 2500s.

Will you add a 5.0 Cummins video? Probably won’t be a very popular video, but the truck isn’t something to be looked past.
