In high school I was in a weight training class and I actually got very fit. Upon graduating I made the mistake of going weeks without working out. And then one day I decided to get back in it. But instead of starting off slow and working my way back up, I decided to do full power sit-ups. Next day my abs felt like somebody hit me full force with the baseball bat. I was hunched over a whole day in pain barely able to move. Can't imagine never working out and being pushed that hard.

@@xenn4985 no it won't. I frequently train to failure. There's something called "doms". Delayed onset muscle soreness. @@xenn4985 No it will not I always train to failure and your body adapts to getting rid of lactic acid faster. The first few weeks is the hardest part of working out. That is why you need to start slow and progress. This trainer is a dumb ass and pushing way to hard. I was a trainer for awhile and you need to start a person off slow. If you do not have any muscle memory at all it is a lot harder also cause you have never used your motor units and have no mind muscle connection.

There is actual merit to blasting the fat off quickly, but extreme exercise is just going to burn you out. Couple it with tiny food intake (far far far worse for a person than proper fasting) and you wind up harming yourself in the process. Best way to slim down quickly in a healthy manner is true fasting and moderate exercise. You can challenge yourself to become more active at a healthy pace, a little bit more week by week.

Don't listen to the people saying "there is merit to blasting the fat off quickly". It's much better to adopt sustainable, lifelong habits instead of having a weight loss mentality. Health is a lifelong journey, it doesn't end when you lose the weight. As the quote goes, “It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.”

Kiana Docherty did a video about this show and specifically this episode. She reached out to Marci who told her that MTV said she would be monitored by doctors during the process but wasn’t, she was put on a 500cal a day diet, worked out at the gym 4-6 hours a day, and when she complained that she wanted to quit MTV told her if she did she would have to pay them $5 million (apparently written in her contract). She also said a lot of the scenes were scripted. She answered questions in the comment section of the video also and in response to one question answered that due to the rapid weight loss she developed certain health issue including hair loss and having to be very careful about implementing new foods into her diet as she would gain weight incredibly quickly if she wasn't careful. She said she kept the weight off for 3 years then slowly starting gaining some of it back over the next 10 years. She also mentioned that her toxic trainer slept with her best friend and sent her pictures and videos of it 🤮

My father taught fitness before I was born and he always said that the worst way to train was doing way too much to soon and being inconsistent. If you hurt yourself, you will never want to train again. As TBYS has pointed out, there are always reasons why people become obese and use food to manage thier emotions. When she said "I don't want to have to eat all the time!" tells me she needs therapy and is using cheeseburgers as medication.

Lol my cousin wanted to start working out one time so he goes and spends like 200 bucks on a bunch of stuff to get in shape. He got scammed but the dude working at the fitness shop. Anyways, the first day I’m telling him to stop doing the same thing I’m doing because he’s not in shape. He says “I feel fine” I said ok wait until you wake up. I’m doing squats and bench presses, deadlifts, pull ups, and a bunch of other stuff. I was in great shape and never got real sore after. He wakes up and he can’t even walk😂, after that he never went back to the gym probably til this day like ten years later lol. I told him, when you first start driving do you just go to a highway and do 80 mph. NO you start in a empty parking lot and drive in circles for a few hrs. It’s the same thing with working out, when I start over again I don’t even add weight to anything. I just do the movements with little to no weights for the first few days! I slowly add weight as I go and after 2 weeks of this I can actually add real weight. I learned the hard way and almost dropped a dumbbell on my face thinking I could still lift it. You lose your strength so easily when you stop lifting! I used to lift every other day, the in between days I would do something light like jogging or just stretching.

As an anorexic, you are correct. When I was really in the grips of it, I worked out like crazy. I’d do 100 repetitions of several different palates moves every morning and night, heavy cardio every other day, and weight machines 3 times a week. All while eating a small bag of chips for lunch with a coke, and a single tiny helping of food at dinner. I was taking in easily less than 1000 calories a day. Way too little with that exercise schedule. It took me getting pregnant after I was married to snap me out of it. Even then I’d gag at more than a few bites of food at a time because my brain was seeing my growing body and freaking out, but I knew I had to eat for the sake of my child. I still have to be careful or I’ll easily fall back into it. My health has paid a price for it and it’s heartbreaking watching them force it onto other people for a show.

Absolutely agreed. People are now in full denial. When I first text America, I absolutely hated fat people. I was 11 back then. Overtime I became more mature, and I had a couple of fat friends and are used to drive 20 minutes to pick my fat friend up and we bust ass and drop him back 20 minutes and we kept going and going and going. Unfortunately, he came up with a lot of excuses and stop showing up. That encouraged me to start a bigger group, so I approached a lot of obese to overweight people in my college, and I grouped up around 50 people but only about 10 showed up and we worked out almost every day. That was two years ago. I kind of gave up on lifting as well until recently, and it feels great to lift again. I hope I was able to at least influence five of those people to push and bust ass! Anyways, now I’m just going to focus on myself and my coworkers.

This video brought up many points my father taught me about training. He was a navy instructor and always criticized the people going to the gym. He taught me that I shouldn't feel bad about not lifting alot, because the people who do at the gym usually have terrible form while using steroids to show off to their friends. He tells me to train using a managable weight that allows me to do many reps, but also allows me to feel the burn. He also taught me to do the abs first, because if you do them last you won't have enough energy to do them correctly at the end. Another tip he gave me was to change the order of excersizes on different days, to make sure I can do all the excersizes at full energy.

At my old Kungfu classes... we did three sets of 100 crunches... followed immediately by Leg Lifts and Leg Spins (about 2 to 3 min of leg lift+spin work). Talk about a challenge! The crunches being so fatigued after those three sets... made holding your legs up, 1000x harder. (though, once I achieved a certain level of strength and mastery... I personally then added some angle weights to up the challenge and development) Form is hypercritical in the combat arts training. You often realize, that if something feels too easy... its typically because your form is incorrect. A lesser known aspect of strength training, is slow motion training (often seem in arts like Tai Chi). Such as taking 20 seconds per single pushup (10 sec down, 10 up). You cant use momentum cheats, when doing slow motion drills... and it also forces you to be hyper conscious of your form. You gain a much more complete level of strength, all along the entire path of your movements. A lot of the Bulky lifters, can only lift heavy mass, by using momentum to "throw" the mass up to the point where they can get under it. If you asked them to try to lift the same mass, slowly, without that momentum cheat... they would never be able to do it. Most of their strength, is at the beginning and end of their stroke... with very little, in the middle. A lot of their bulk, is not "Functional" strength. For example... a Rock Climber, will tend to be able to use much more of their strength, "Practically", than a weight lifter.

I dated a girl once who did the hair routine, skin routine, and makeup thing instead of just losing weight. I think she knew she was lying to herself because she was having emotional breakdowns every, single day over the smallest of things. Also, she would bring up her weight CONSTANTLY and when she did go to the gym, it was never consistent enough to make any real difference. She was miserable to be around.

A girl wanted to date me and she also had really nice hair and skin but she is overweight. She even wears nice clothes that fit her size so it's obvious she cares about the way she looks. I told her I would not consider any kind of relationship (even FWB) until she made a commitment to lose weight. I work out 3 days a week and she knows this so I wasn't being hypocritical. I was honest with her and told her I didn't want to be with anyone who doesn't look after their health. She got very upset with me asking her to lose weight and basically ghosted me.

Getting over instant gratification is the real key. You need to celebrate every little change you make. Even if you only went to the gym 1 day this week that is still better then nothing. That’s still progress towards change and just build upon it. I especially liked what TBYS said about her losing 1lb. That’s when should be celebrating progress

I always wanted to train in the martial arts, but was poor... so I didnt get the chance, until I was 20. At that point in time, I felt like I had been held back, and I thought to myself... How could I ever catch up in skill level, to kids that started as early as 3yrs old? I decided, that the best way, would be to train much longer, and much more intensely... My Kung Fu classes, were a full 2hrs long... and there were 4 classes per week. The entire first hour, was a full hardcore "Core" workout. At the time, I was between jobs... so I took both the day and night classes (same material, but more work to do). I was also biking there and back home... with each trip taking about 25 min. The exercise routine alone, was so brutal, that it took me about 3 months, to be able to fully complete it, without any rests/breaks. I was not only working at class, however... I did the entire workout routine at home, every single day. Also, I would repeat all of the various drills and attribute developing exercises... all throughout the entire day / night. For example... at work, about every 15 min... Id go to the back room, and do 2 min of a specific drill. It could be as simple as repeated sidekicks... or more complex, as dual-hand sequences, like Parry+strike+kick. I would also do things like standing on one leg, while waiting in long lines (such as, at the bank). If I was walking past a tree, Id pick a high up leaf to target and kick. When walking in the parking lot to the mall... Id be throwing kicks / techs... and when walking down the malls halls... Id constantly be repeating hand techs. In addition to constant bit-training... I also did large block training sessions, at home... after getting home from work... and or after classes. These could easily be 2 to 4 hours worth of nearly non-stop work. And after I knew what I was doing, and was pretty decent at it... (about 1yr into my training) I started sparring outside of my school... against other arts artists. I eventually got to the point where I was sparring every weekend, as I had formed a sparring group of like 15 different artists. At that pace, I got into the best shape of my life, in about a years time... and about 3yrs in, I was virtually untouchable to the local blackbelt fighters, and their teachers. By my 5th year... I reached Masterclass level output (flawless execution, and lethal output power levels). Only at that point, I vastly reduce my training time... as I no longer needed to train that much. I just needed to do a few tech reps a day, just to maintain my tools sharpness. My point is... that there are 24 hrs in a day, and one can manage to find something to do, all throughout the day and night, that challenges the body. You just have to make it a daily way of life. And of course, you should have a strong passion, which will provide the motivation. You also do not need to go to any "Gym", to get strong and fit. Many exercises with your own body mass, are more than enough, to get strong and fit. That said, I did have some equipment at home. A 6ft tall Muay Thai kick bag. A wall mounted sandbag set, packed with coarse grain beach sand. A 7ft long metal fence pole, used for various arm thrust challenges (+1000 rep thrusts, with the pole mostly hanging to one side.. while maintaining shoulder height), and a wrist strength exercise. Ankle weights, to add more challenge to leg spins and leg lifts. A custom arm weight, tied to the wrists... to use with slow moving arm extensions. A hanging bag full of steel BBs (iron fist conditioning). A rolling pin to smooth the shin bone of any bumps. And a custom sandbag made from a pair of Jean legs, packed tightly with sand, and taped tightly with duct-tape... to form a very hard shin conditioning bag. But as said, most of my strength, came from standard exercises, such as slow motion pushups, crunches, leg lifts and spins, squats, etc. With cardio, speed, and endurance from 60 second speed drills, +20 min non-stop drills, and sparring sessions. Now... I wasnt jacked like a body builder. However, I was far stronger than I looked, due to the type of specialized training methods used. IE: Ive been known to move 400 lb arcade machines, by myself... up and down staircases.

I have been working out 6 months and I've only lost 13 lbs. I have a hormone imbalance so I gain weight incredibly easy so I've learned to be happy that it's going down and not up. I do Chloe Ting workouts challenges at home since I can't go to the gym and have gained a lot of muscle and look less swollen. Slow weightloss is frustrating but it stays off when it is slow and you gain so much more than weightloss. My back is stronger and I have less pain. Most of all, I have more endurance to play with my son and that's the main reason I'm doing this.

When I started my weight loss in April my goal was just to see the scale go down at all week to week, I didn't need it to go down by multiple pounds or even a full pound a week, even if it was .1 pounds I would be happy. Slow and steady is way better than not at all, and since April I'm almost at 50 lbs lost, and have only had 2 weeks where I went up (Thanksgiving week and a week where I ate an entire pumpkin cheesecake 😅). When you’re massively overweight. Yeah that weight falls off ez. You can even see in those shows like The Biggest Loser, that just eating a healthy diet annihilates a lot of weight. However, that’s not all you need to do. Initially you’ll lose a ton of weight, but it will plateau. Eating right is a good first step, just gotta continue the good work by exercising.

@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 I agree that exercise is good for conditioning and range of motion, along with strength, however the myth of losing weight by exercising has been disproved. Exercise, that is healthy exercise, only contributes to about 5% of weight loss. Diet is by far the most important factor. It has to do with how our bodies store fat. All physiological and biological factors matter in this instance. Refer to Dr. Ken Barry, Dr. Paul Mason, or Dr. Jason Fung. Even Bart Kay has great information on the subject.

I had a similar experience with a personal trainer. Anytime I told him something hurt he would just not listen and kept pushing. It got to the point where I had to go to the hospital to get x-rayed because I had damaged the ligaments in my sternum because of how much weight I was trying to press. Because of my injuries I couldn't go back to the gym for over a year and by then I gained all the weight back that I had lost. Thankfully now I've gotten back down to an even lower weight simply by doing low intensity cardio daily and watching my diet. Unless you're competing as a bodybuilder you really don't need a personal trainer. Seriously, just get on an elliptical for 30 minutes a day with light weight lifting. I lost over 40 lb that way in a matter of months.

Diet is the actual key to weight loss not exercise. The purpose of exercise should be to gain fitness and physical capabilities. So if you eat 2500 calories a day you will find that your weight will drop even though that for many is considered the maintenance level of the body. When starting out with exercise at your weight walking and weight lifting would be the best place to start with. And as you start to lose that fat and gain muscle you can get yourself to a point were activities like running can be done which tend to put pressure on the knee joints. Paleo diet tends to be one of the better healthy diets that people can move to or eating the paleo stye diet but only then having the odd potatoes, rice and bread.

you hit the nail on the head at about the 4:00 mark. As of right now I'm a self recovering alcoholic; addiction is primarily mental, for 10+ years of my life I hadn't gone a day without drinking. It wasn't until I hit absolute rock bottom that I forced myself to make changes (partially because I was a razors edge away from becoming homeless), it's true what they say that the first step is to admit you have a problem but in my personal experience it isn't enough, a good support system is paramount as well as being smart enough to know that I was too dumb to do it on my own. When I finally got back on my feet I knew the moment I had any form of income I would use my money on alcohol, the temptation was always there, I put my mother and brother in charge of my bank accounts and afforded myself just enough to make it to my next paycheck (food, water, transport only) and just did it again and again. No matter how miserable that sounds it still never felt as bad as waking from a night of binging and repeating the process for weeks at a time. I started listing all the positives I was experiencing no matter how small i.e. my memory coming back, no more embarrassing stories, no run ins with the police, appetite returning, healthy skin. I want to say it was about the 2nd month of sobriety that my younger brother asked me why I had suddenly just quit drinking cold turkey and the only response I could give him was I simply couldn't even afford a single beer of the most ratchet kind the day I stopped; a week later I didn't have a compulsion to pick up a beer at all, hell even the sight of the things I used to drink made me nearly vomit. I still use the memories of my former self to keep me on the straight and narrow and write down all of the negative ways drinking impacted my behavior and how it affected my family and relationships. I try to view each day as a small step forward no matter how little that step may be, refusing the mind numbing embrace/aloofness alcohol made me feel as it was a temporary fix to a long term problem.

losing too much is a thing. so hitting 35 lbs / 2.2 = 16 kilos in a month certainly is too much, as your body literally thinks that you are about to DIE. SO IT THROWS EVERYTHING IT CAN AT THE PROBLEM. in any case, if you can keep the weight down, you feel better and you weren't all that muscly to begin with then you got a perfect deal. losing muscle with weight loss should be normal with extreme-extreme weight loss.

I agree 1lb per 5 days isn't bad progress. For example if you add it too 6months which is about 36.6lbs that comes too roughly 16.6kgs when looking long term seems like a decent amount of weight that's been lost which it is. I think people mainly struggle with 2 components first changing a particular lifestyle that you've most likely falling into hence why it isn't fulfilling and 2ndly being consentsent with the new lifestyle.

I’ve seen people start with diet changes, lose some weight, but not exercise. Then they plateau. Eventually people think that it’s not working so they’ll slip on the dietary changes. It’s very important to follow up the diet changes with exercise.

Man this was a much-needed video. Recently, in the past couple of years, I gained quite a lot of weight. It always made it hard to recover because I had that mindset of trying to somehow flash it off with crazy workout once every 6 months. What really helped, changing my mindset. Changing how I want to live my life. It really is a lifestyle change. And it is really hard to pindown if you don't focus on it. Suprisingly, learning Japanese has really helped. I considered how my fat ass lifestyle is different than like a usual japanese persons. And it really made me think, "They drink tea, walk to work and take the train, don't drink 25litres of soda/day, and eat fish." Easiest 25lbs of my life.

If you have issues with gaining mass... its more than likely that you have a mild food allergy issue. The culprit tends to be Wheat. It creates a mild internal inflammation... which vastly reduces your Nutrient absorption levels. In my case, I used to feel like I was starving, most of my day/night. I was in fact, allergic to wheat... and the more of it that I ate.. the more hungry I would end up getting. Try eliminating all wheat from your diet. You can replace pasta, with Rice or Rice Noodles. I used to be 6ft tall, at like 140 lbs... and a 31" waistline. You could see every rib bone sticking out of my chest. One of the things that helped change me dramatically... was Kung Fu. My classes were 2hrs long, and one of those hours, was a full hardcore core workout. I was also training outside of classes too. By my 3rd month, I was finally able to complete the entire workout, without slowing down in pace, and without any breaks / pauses. Eventually, I started to develop some actual muscle definition, and my weight and waistline, had greatly gone up. I bumped up to about 150lbs, and my ribs were no longer visibly protruding. I had defined abs, defined arms, bulkier calves, and even a jacked jawline. My waistline bumped up to between 32 to 34". Sadly, these days, I have let myself go... and I have a waistline that is above 36". Probably weigh about 195 lbs. Still internally strong... but I have a dad-bod, that looks like Im pregnant. >_

When I started going to the gym with my boyfriend he basically asked me what my goal was and wanted to know what I wanted to start with. He told me to take it slow and not to push myself just to do what I could so that we could get a baseline. Which I really think that was a good approach because it didn't make me want to cry at the end of it and I had a base to work off of to get better towards. I started at a 24 minute mile and now I'm at a 21 minute mile. It's not some super amazing change but if I keep going I'll get it down even further. I've been going for a month once a week. Start slowing build good habits.

I think media and the fitness industry has really tainted what being fit is. I used to be a power lifter a long time ago but I got tired of being so heavy. (The heaviest I got was 250) I wasn’t fat I’m tall and dense but I got tired of being tired all the time I was definitely chasing the plates in the gym. When COVID happened I started running every day and did calisthenics. Lost a lot of my weight and still kept a decent size. Now I’m around 220 and I do a lot of distance running with some moderate weight lifting and calisthenics. Changed up the diet and stopped the heavy drinking too. People fail to realize it’s all a process and it takes time. Great video by the way I love your honesty.

When I was on my teens, I experienced a lot of public groping. I was a minor, high school to college. When I started working, and semi-fat, I still encounter few instances, on the work site, or public transpo. So I gained a lot of weight. Im 125kg, groping stopped. Maybe due to uber, so no need to take the public transpo. And I became less attractive due to my weight. I am currently unemployed, just studying any upskill online, because my husband doesn't really wanted me to go out because of the past encounters. It was traumatic, the smirk that they gave you after when you realized you have been groped. Until now, I am still coping and trying to heal. People have reasons why they are fat, please be kinder. Hell, I mean, they did actually discourage me from weight loss back in the day, and only when I actually got to try a proper gym workout and realized that "Hey this ain't that bad... it's actually pretty fun!" And even though I might have gained weight back due to an abusive relationship followed by a horrible breakup, job loss and lockdowns, I am working on rebuilding myself again, because lifting weights is fun and makes me feel better in my own skin. True, it goes slowly, very slowly, but it is not a boring process and helps me clear my head most days.

And like you said, a lot of it was scripted, like they told the girl to be eating food in her bed when the trainer got there even though she had already been out and about. Check out Kiana’s video! I’m 5’5” female. I did easy field work at a mine camp in the summer that served high calorie food for the big boys. It was easy to gain weight if you weren’t careful. After doing it for the second year now, I got tired of most of the food anyway and got more picky about what I put on my plate and made more healthy conscious decisions. I did 20-30 minute workouts after my 12 hour shift just to keep me moving because most of the shift was me sitting on my butt. I definitely gained muscle, but was the same weight ~160 lbs. I definitely don’t look 160 (like marci here) but I am still trying to lose another 20lbs. I used to be 185 at my heaviest about 4 years ago when I dated an obese guy.

Concerning delayed gratification. When I want to buy something ( ever since I was a kid ) and save for it instead of blowing whatever I have saved, by the time I saved extra, I ask myself, is it really worth all the work I did for the money? Usually the answer is "no". Something people who gratify themselves immediately never learn. So they get in debt. They get fat. And then blame other people, corporations, genetics, etc.

It is, but I’ve known people who start eating right and dropping the weight, only to plateau. They don’t take it to the next step by exercising. Eventually slipping on the dietary changes and not making much progress at all. It starts with the diet, once you got a healthy dietary routine, look to incorporate exercise.

Part of being a trainer is managing expectations. Losing 9 lbs a week is basically impossible and even if you manage to do it's incredibly unhealthy. I used to cut for wrestling like that, I was mostly dehydrating and depleting muscle glycogen which isn't sustainable. I was barely able to stand on the scale without passing out. Chris Bumstead won Mr Olympia after that video, he's not just a bodybuilder, he's the best bodybuilder. He's a genetic freak with incredible discipline preparing for a single day where he'll be shredded like that.

You know what always grinds my gear? The victim attitude. In the beginning of the clip she starts crying when she feels overwhelmed by the difficulty of the physical exercises, and at around the 5 minute mark, when her mom says she always ends up taking her to fast food restaurants because she "insists", she makes a "who??? meeee???" face. Listen. I'm fat - I have a BMI of 34 currently - and have always struggled with my weight. I've managed throughout my life to lose a lot of weight, and then put it back on because of my lack of self control. I know and accept my issues, and I'm trying to fix them, even though I don't always manage to. But i have never acted nor understood this victimizing attitude. I mean firstly, you're on a dieting show, how can you not assume it's going to be torture? And if the workout proves too much, just have a conversation with the guy. Hell...you can even say "you know what, my dude...this ain't for me. sorry brah". I'm not saying it's the best option in regards to losing weight, but at least it's honest and forthright, and denotes a semblance of responsibility. Secondly, how can ANYONE have that reaction she had at that 5 minute mark and not have their brains burst from the sheer dissonance? I mean come on, man....you've just balled your eyes out about hating being fat. It's almost incredible how far some people will go to avoid feeling responsible for their actions
