for anyone wondering (some probably already know!) the “whale” that Adam is painting is called a whale shark! It’s actually a shark due to the fact that it has cartilage instead of bones! The reason they use whale in the name is because of its size and they filter feed. They are one of my favorite creatures!

if any of you were looking for more info about paints made with both pigment and dye, Kimberly Crick has a great video about the Super Vision paints that seem to be pretty similar! 😊 and the bleed through to the next page on Steph's painting was probably the dye part of the paint, not the pigment part, bc dye particles tend to be smaller and could seep through easier. so if you wanted to keep using the mixed media sketchbook for watercolor swatches you'll probably be fine as long as it's a pigment based paint!

Interesting. The swatches look very pretty but when applying to an overall piece they don't come out as well as I'd hoped. I bet there's a good way to use them with a certain technique but overall I guess I can see why they have negative reviews.

They strike me as paints suited for background elements in a painting made with normal supplies rather than anything that needs any sort of control.

I think the other part is its a lot of glittery unique colours that having them all on one art piece lessens their uniqueness. Likely better as an accent or on the main subject for them to stand out more.

If im not mistaken the reason they do not have Great lightfastness is because they contain a mix of dyes and pigments in order to get that separating effect. You can actually mix these kind of colors yourself by mixing a dye based watercolor ink with regular watercolors i think..

I think the paints would look good in space/galaxy watercolour pictures because of the colour changing effects, but you need a cotton based watercolour paper for it because you need to get the paper really wet. If it isn't cotton based, it doesn't granulate as well and you run the risk of ripping the paper. It's a shame about the light fastness, though because they look nice. Maybe the people who had problems with the tubes had left them too long before using them again after they opened them - some watercolor tube paint I've had dries up in the tube when it's been opened.

I remember scoobies! I spent one of my school holidays making them once as a kid! The whale shark plush looks like Jinbei-San, a very cute San-X character, just in case you wanted to see more of them (or someone like them. You can get stationary!) These are so interesting, I love the sparkles, my favourites are also the blue and purple ones, I wish there was a pink, but for something ocean-y themed it probably makes sense that there's no pink.
@rhys26472 жыл бұрын
someone may have mentioned this already, but coliro pearlcolors are really incredible watercolors that achieve a similar glittery, color-shifting, duo chrome effect. they’re a little pricey but the imprint on the pans alone is worth the extra money if you love ~*~aesthetic~*~ supplies! I have a few and I’ve been able to use them on mixed media, Bristol, watercolor paper, and canvas with what seems like more success than these lol

A+ editing and what unique paints! I want to look into them more to understand how they work. As an aside... it would be really cool to see you two make your own watercolours 👀 I recently got some arteza mica powder and I believe you can make watercolours with those and just a couple other ingredients!
@JennaGetsCreative2 жыл бұрын
Good choice to start again on better paper, Steph. The second piece turned out beautifully! Personally, I think the sparkles make these a bit of a gimmick. I can't see myself making use of multi-toned paints that also have glitter. If they were matte they would be a great easy background tool or an element of interest in part of a painting, like the dusk and interference shades Royal Talents puts out in the Van Gogh and Rembrandt lines.
Some of these really remind me of fountain pen ink :D I have a few inks which shade/sheen different colors when just writing, so I use those to paint with once in a while. I'd recommend a TWSBI Eco fountain pen (Medium) and J. Herbin's ink called Emerald of Chivor to test if you like these :D There's a very cool kind of paper which really shows off properties in ink like that and probably the dyes in paints like these called Tomoe River! It's thin, yes, but surprisingly good for inks and watercolors too!

The reviews I've read is that yes they do seem to have colors that alter or disappear after time in the tube but also that the colors are fugitive. Someone , (Maybe the frugal crafter?) Did a swatching test and then left the swatches out in normal room lighting conditions and the colors faded, disappeared and or changed appearance. There so very pretty looking. Just can't justify the cost against the long-term outcome. I would like to know how they hold up in a art journal situation.

I know i'm quite a bit late but i'd like the consider myself a jellyfish expert, most species of "jellyfish" don't have an assigned number of tentacles or oral arms :) usually they're just classified as a range of numbers! some species do have a set amount though, like most cubozoas (box jellyfish) can only have 2 tentacles!

They where a family and they where my favourite toys... I had more toys, but outside of my Winnie the Pooh, they where my favourites). 15 years later, I still knot bracelets/hair ribbons (but in wool). I use the method for chevron bracelets, but I still use the Scooby Doo method for finishing. Lol. You guys can try making alphas (knotting an image). There are some great channels on yt if you wanna try it. I love this vid, thank you for posting! ♥️

all dyes are fugitive (not lightfast) from what ive heard, i have been tempted to buy those paints but im doing mostly comissions so id feel gilty if it fades :( but if you just scan and post your work or sell prints i guess it should not be an issue. p.d. ive read that you can achieve similar efects mixing your watercolors with ecoline liquid watercolors (which are also dye based and fugitive) p.d.2 many mixes that use ultramarine blue or mars black (pbk11) can have similar separating effects without fading!
