The doctor had Steve make him a promise before the procedure that turned him into a super soldier "Promise me that you'll stay true to who you are. Not a perfect soldier, but a good man." People forget what side "Captain America" was on during Civil War and why he became Nomad.
@deviljaxcrypto318711 сағат бұрын
Cap was on the peoples side, fighting for freedom from oppression in civil war. Like any real American should. He became Nomad to fight for these ideals in the face of tyranny from an oppressive government. Also very American. Which is why he always returns to being Captain America, because he loves and fights for the people of you guessed it, America.
@ZeroKhaoTiKz10 сағат бұрын
@deviljaxcrypto3187 the point is, however, that it's not just an "American" trait. Being good and standing up for what's right isn't exclusive to America. It should be a global goal. Which, since he's doing this interview overseas, is it's a great point to make.
@deviljaxcrypto31879 сағат бұрын
He really should have said that. Because Captain America is an American hero first and foremost. It's very easy. "Captain America holds the ideas that America was built on truth, justice, freedom to pursue happiness, equality under the law. He is a sentinel of liberty. But those ideals are really bigger than America itself. Really they are universal and speak to free men and women across the globe. And more so to those who hunger for that freedom." - Anthony Mackie Earth 420

Mackie is not right. He said "the term America" That made zero sense America is not a term The history of Captain America and what he stands for everyone around the world knows what it means. Just like people knew what it meant when Superman's slogan was truth l, justice and the American way. People already know it means the values and morals that should inspire people to be better. Those aspirations is what people strive to want America to be as a country. Because that's what America is: a country of people, not "a term". Steve Rogers once abandoned the title Captain America in the comics when he uncovered corruption in the white house and the president shot himself in front of him. Thats when he went by the name Nomad for a while. But eventually he went back to Captain America because he remembered what it stood for: the people and the ideals to live up to that image Only idiots thing otherwise

I’d rather he portray the latter. Character’s like Captain America need to be portrayed as a role model, not just for kids, but for everyone else too. I think Anthony Mackie understands that well.

I bought my ticket, I'm going with my sister. We are old white ladies and we both have great respect for Anthony Mackie. He is a terrific guy. I understand what he was trying to say. He's right, kindness and goodness are not American traits, they are traits of a good human being, so is forgiveness and understanding that NO ONE is perfect. (I really hope we get a cameo with Bucky)

Mackie is right. Cap represents what America SHOULD be through his ideals, but he’s loyal to nothing besides the dream. Anthony fully gets it and I’m so glad he said this Mackie even clarified on his Instagram saying: “ Cap has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to.”

Honestly, with so many things the US government has done, a lot of people inside and outside of the US probably have mixed feelings about America right now, and I think that's healthy. The US has a lot of problems and too many Americans are blindly patriotic and refuse to acknowledge all the problems: racism, imperialism, one of the worst healthcare systems in the world, mass incarceration... Maybe it's smart to distance the brand from American jingoism.

He should know what America means. Americans have the kind of freedoms no other nation has to offer . He should understand that’s what makes cap so special. What makes America so special. With all its flaws. The fact that he (and Disney ) doesn’t recognise that (or willingly ignore it) sucks.

I heard about his quote on another Chanel the other day. I think you have a great take on it. Anthony used some poor placed words, but given his track record and his take on polarizing topics in the past I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I want this movie to be good. Even if the more I hear about it the more negative it gets. I’m still going to the theater to see it. 🤞🏾🙏🏾🤞🏾

I find it amusing that have people who called certain communities sensitive and unnecessarily outraged, yet they will become unhinged at the drop of a dime when the roles reversed.

Chris Evans, in 2011, on what Captain America represents: “I'm not trying to get too lost in the American side of it. This isn't a flag waving movie. It is red, white and blue, but it just so happens that the character was created in America during war time, when there was a common enemy, even though it is Captain America. I've said before in interviews, it feels more like he should just be called Captain Good.-

If Captain America was walking down a street in Europe and saw a bank robbery, I'm sure he wouldn't think "oh I'm Captain America, I only fight crime in America" and walk straight past. That's my take on what he said anyway. Maybe I'm missing the point 🤔.
