It turned out that the tires were not the problem. Ford's recommended tire pressure was the problem.

The explorers were so top heavy in a hard turn the tires would blow out causing a rollover crash that killed several people.

Word of advice. That green/ blue corrosion you sometimes find on battery terminals does not need any chemical cleaning. Just pour boiling ( and I do mean BOILING) water over it and it completely dissolves and leaves no residue. If the battery is still good, just smear some Vaseline or electro conductive grease on the terminals and it'll never come back. Needless to say, if your booster pack gets the corrosion on the clamps pour boiling water on them too and it gets rid of it.

5:40 Thunderchicken! My Mom had a 1978 Honda Accord wagon. It was not quite as slow as the Mercedes 220 diesel it replaced. I got the the Benz to drive back and forth to school with my parents thinking I couldn't possibly get into trouble with it. Little did they know, I used to just hold the accelerator to the floor and take the dirt roads to school in reverse lock all the way lol. I also remember the Honda's suspension was really soft and wallow-y, the seats were not very comfortable, and the cruise control didn't maintain speed well at all. Eventually, my Mom insisted we swap back. I miss the old 220 - I don't think anyone missed that Honda.

In 2000, Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone recalled 6.5 million tires, including some that were originally installed on 1991-1996 Ford Explorers, due to tread separation. The recall included 3.8 million ATX and ATXII tires and 2.7 million Wilderness AT tires, all made in Firestone's Illinois plant. The failures were most likely to occur in hot climates while driving at highway speeds, as the tires heated up and the internal structure of one tire would fail. This would cause the tread to separate from the tire body and disintegrate

You know back 28 years ago I had a little Ford Festiva. Got scrunched in a collision, another driver going opposite direction side swiped me (his fault as he came over in my lane). Even though I had one arm in a sling (I broke my arm in the crash) I still managed to clean the car out before I let the insurance take it away. I can understand a repo not being clean (though why the bank when it repos doesn't clean them I don't know, you would think a clean car would bring more money than a filthy car with trash in it at auction. But when it comes to insurance salvage (unless the owner was killed in the crash) why didn't the owner clean it out or have someone clean it out for them before they let the insurance take it off? I'm in Missouri, Randy. I feel ya. Our weather is almost as bad as yours, I could be wrong but I don't think we get as many tornadoes as you do. But the sunshine and 80 degrees one second and snowing and 30 degrees the next type of weather. I've seen that here also.

See a lot of people would jump on the first vehicle they see, When you take the time to find the one thats been maintained well but needs stupid little things like a purge valve or a bumper door or front fender, Or if its one owner, its even better. My dad took my aunts ex husband to an auction back in the day for a minivan and he jumped on the first van to run through the auction!!!! It needed a battery, alternator, a few weeks in the air died and it needed the more expensive air compressor that could run both front and rear, after all of that was repaired, they took it on a road trip, The fuel pump died at the pump at the first stop for fuel, they shut off the van and it just never re-started they got it fixed and continued their trip safely but when they got home the very next drive the next day just after she dropped my little cousins to school? The transmission died in the middle of a dangerous intersection- a life lesson to me from this?? Do not always jump on the first vehicle you see especially if its for someone you love. And definitely don’t just bring it home do nothing to it and be like “heres the keys honey”
