They go to churches (if you can call them churches?) where they preach you can become anything and the more you give, the more you get back. But the weird thing is, all the discipels were presecuted and killed. But their preachers promise we can gain the whole world, while the Lord says in Matthew 16 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? It is paganism they preach, like throwing money in a wishing well, the more you throw in the more you hope to get back. We give money, not bcs we want the church to thrive, the gospel to be preached nor to help the poor, but we give bcs we expect something in return.

In all honesty, we have lost Christian ethics in America because the church quit being the church and became a book selling institution promoting programs instead of the simplicity of the real gospel and showing hospitality that included discipleship. Nowadays, we can go to divorce recovery classes and meet a new spouse and men who are addicted to pornography can read a book that says it’s every man’s battle instead of falling under church discipline like they did in the past. Women are taught subtly through religious books that their number one priority is not God first and their family second but their well-being is most important . Some of us just felt under-fed and had a deeper hunger for the Word, not just a few verses on Sunday morning but hours of study through a whole book or comprehensive study of a topic. Most churches appeal to new believers or even unbelievers, or at best people who just want to squeeze God into an hour on Sunday morning and sing a few songs. Some of us have wanted more, so we left. We started studying independently and fellowshipping in smaller groups. We don't appear in most statistics.

I think you are on to something. Trinitarians dominate Christianity so much so that they would have you believe that if you are not a Trinitarian, you are not a Christian. This is not true. Historically, Christianity has not always been controlled by the Trinitarians or their Doctrine. There was no defined Trinitarian doctrine for the first three hundred years of the history of the Christian Church. But to listen to Trinitarians, you would think Christ taught His disciples the Trinity, or at the very least God revealed the Doctrine of the Trinity to the church from the beginning. No such teaching or revelation from God was ever given, nor was the Trinity made essential for believers according to the Bible. Yet, according to Trinitarians, the doctrine of the Trinity is considered sacred and fundamental, and most Trinitarians view it as the litmus test for defining who is and is not a Christian. Only ignorance would allow such a thing. The audacity of the Trinitarians to threaten one’s very salvation! James White has publicly stated, “We (Trinitarians) hang a person’s very salvation upon the acceptance of the doctrine… We must know, understand, and love the Trinity to be fully and completely Christian” (The Forgotten Trinity, pp. 14-15). And yet, no one can understand the Trinity. Scholars have acknowledged this, “The mind of man cannot fully understand the mystery of the Trinity. He who has tried to understand the mystery fully will lose his mind; but he who would deny the Trinity will lose his soul” (Harold Linsell and Charles Woodbridge, A Handbook of Christian Truth, pp. 51). This Trinitarian Doctrine produces confusion, and this confusion is not from the God of the Bible (1 Corinthians 14:33). Where did this doctrine of the Trinity come from? “The term ‘Trinity’ is not itself found in the Bible. It was first used by Tertullian at the close of the 2nd century but received wide currency and formal elucidation only after the 4th and 5th centuries” (see “Trinity,” New Bible Dictionary, 1996). “Precisely what that doctrine is, or rather precisely how it is to be explained, Trinitarians are not agreed among themselves” (see “Trinitarians,” A Dictionary of Religious Knowledge). Biblically, God never revealed the Doctrine of the Trinity, then how did the church come to accept it? From history, we get the answer, “The doctrine developed gradually over several centuries and many controversies…It was not until the 4th century that the distinctness of the three and their unity were brought together in a single orthodox doctrine of one essence and three persons” (The New Encyclopedia Britannica, Vol. 11, p. 928, 1985 ed.). “There is no evidence that the apostles of Jesus ever heard of the trinity-at any rate from Him” (H.G. Wells, The Outline of History, Vol. 2, p. 499, 1920). Over 3 hundred years after Christ, this doctrine of God being Triune took over the church as essential to our salvation! What of all the believers who accepted Christ before the 4th century, but had no idea that belief in the Trinity was a requirement for their salvation? Is the demand by Trinitarians that one must believe in the Trinity to receive salvation a form of legalism? What is legalism? Have not Trinitarians laid down the law that one must believe in the Trinity to be saved? In Christian theology, "legalism" is a pejorative term applied to the idea that "by doing good works or by obeying the law, a person earns and merits salvation." If men, whether by popular belief or by group or clergy, place a prerequisite, a stipulation, or insist upon a certain belief upon one so that they would receive salvation is this not a form of legalism? Only Christ, by the will of the Father, can place prerequisites, stipulations, and beliefs upon one to receive salvation without falling under “legalism.” Therefore, Christ made no requirement that one must believe in the Trinity to receive salvation, then it follows that the stipulation that one must believe in the Trinity would be a form of legalism caused by Trinitarians. There is no requirement by Christ that one must believe in the Trinity to receive salvation. Where did the idea of the Trinity come from since God never revealed the concept of the Trinity? Edward Gibbon, a noted historian, gives this answer, “If paganism was conquered by Christianity, it is equally true that Christianity was corrupted by Paganism. The pure Deism of the first Christians…was changed by the Church…into the incomprehensible dogma of the Trinity” (The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, p. xvi, 1883). The Trinity finds its birth in the West according to Pagan Greek philosophy. Were we not warned about this by the apostle Paul, who wrote, “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8). Rise up in truth all Christians and throw off this heavy yoke of Trinitarian bondage to a false doctrine never revealed by Christ. It is false that one must believe in the Trinity to be saved. Christ is God because His God and Father gave Him all things, and all things are committed to Him. Christ said, “All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him” (Matthew 11:27).

What I found was no more than 25-30 people, the singing dull and lifeless, and the Easter message was nothing more than someone up the front reading from the Gospel of John about the risen Christ. I believe a lot of the generational loss has to do with the "charismatic" movement. People are going to church to be entertained instead of to be fed. My wife, stepkids, and I visited a Calvary Chapel near Seattle. When we took her teens to the youth service, I couldn't help but notice a bunch of teens gathered around an arcade-type machine. The sad thing is that her kids aren't interested in church; we went to that church because they have a later youth service, so we have a higher likelihood of getting them to church instead of sleeping in. Not entirely their fault, though, because they grew up being entertained at church instead of being taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We pump these poor children full of "worship" music, entertain and feed them to keep them there, and then we wonder why they fall away when they grow up. Kids, teens, and adults all need the same thing: THE WORD OF GOD: Jesus Christ.

Social sci major here. You’re absolutely on point. There was a massive switch in the Christian church in the 70-80s during the era of rising popularity of televangelism, mega churches, and a mainlining of a more “modern” protestantism in US. Simply put, Christianity moved out of the local or denominational body to national brands. This wasn’t all bad as there was a boom in larger Christian communities, music, etc. but it did create the foundation of modern commercialization in Christianity. A lot of people were making a lot of money with these new nationally-reaching mediums, and the net result was we translated worldly marketing mindset into Christianity. The Holy Spirit was no longer enough to touch hearts, a little help was needed using tried and true marketing techniques, geared toward emotionalism and feel-good messaging in order to capture the widest audience possible. By the 90s, Christian churches were filled with “me too” products and messages. Music, causes, books, movies, clothing was all trendy knock offs of what the world was selling. And the message that was being peddled was mostly, “aren’t we cool? see we’re just like you. You can basically be the same person you were before AND be a churchgoing Christian” Churches and pastors with large followings dramatically deemphasized uncomfortable theology, like sin, exclusivity of Christ, hell, and started focusing on the things that your average secular person wanted to hear, the love and the social outreach side of Christianity. And a pretty much things have reminded like that, with churches staying lock step with the secular world. Until we get to our current time when secular Americans seemingly rubber stamp wildly anti-Christian ideologies like LGBT overnight, and Churches across America, who have now spent decades in sync with American culture, went right over the cliff with them. The sad thing is that it’s often too late now for many churches to try to take a stand with the uncomfortable truth of scripture, as the congregation was sold a very different product in the name of getting them in the door.

My former United Methodist pastor blamed the decline of Christianity, and many other religions, in the U.S. on the Catholic sex scandals. People don't want to put their kids at risk of pedophiles, or have to donate to a congregation or denomination to pay for settlements or judgments. I know Catholics, Mainline Protestants, and Evangelicals who have drifted away from church, because they feel worshipping God at home is preferable to being a part of a congregation that could have a pedophile in a leadership role. My former church wound up having to run background checks on any adult who volunteered to teach Sunday School or help out with VBS, camp, and other youth activities, because the liability insurance carrier demanded such checks. That's rather sad.

I'm openly Christian in online places, and on one site was asked to participate in a virtual Pride event last month. (I'm very sure I was invited *because* I'm Christian, the moderators there already didn't like me, so it seemed odd they'd want me included.) Of course I said no, and was eventually bullied off the site entirely by the "tolerant and loving" Pride activists there, who demand that everyone agree with them in absolutely everything. While the abhorrent behavior of the godless crowd was expected, what hurt my heart were the few messages I got saying "I'm a REAL Christian, unlike you. Love is love, bigot!" So many who pretend to follow Christ are so very lost, and their blind contract with Satan deceives who knows how many others.

Any person who says "love is love" is a fool who has zero understanding of God's word. They are the ones who place themselves first, then they mold the scipture around what they want it to be. They are the false teachers who infiltrate the church, the ones that Paul warned about. They are the ones who will cry "Lord Lord" and ask Him about the things they did in His name. They are the ones who will be told "depart from me, I never knew you" before being sent to the lake of fire. It is sad, but this is their decision. They only want God as long as He is convenient for them. They do not truly care about His truth. Be glad you do not participate there any more. The place was a den of demonic spirits and it was doing nothing but dragging you down with constant attacks. Choose your battles carefully and be led by the Holy Spirit as to when and where to speak. Having been privileged to live 68+ years in this world I’ve seen our Country going from a Nation of shared Christian values, even though we weren’t a Nation of Christians, to a Nation of non believers whose only shared common value appears to be materialism. Raised in the Catholic church with a Lutheran high school biology teacher as my mother I somehow didn’t accept their pro evolution stance on creation. After becoming a Christian, 45 years ago, I still had no real belief in the Genesis or any other creation account until I began to understand it’s importance to the New Testament and then I began to have an even higher view of my Creator. Thank you Ken Ham for helping me understand the importance of Genesis 1-11 whose abandonment is often the first step in disbelief of other key portions of Scripture and a disintegrating faith. A video of your presentation to a high school class was being shown and I found it very revealing of the importance of Genesis and how well it dovetails with the New Testament and how well it stands scientific examination, true science that is.

They wanted everyone to be able to worship whichever God they wished and that should not be infringed on, but they also added "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" to the 1st amendment of the Bill of rights to ensure that no one religion would be put above others. So you being 68+yrs old should know about McCarthyism and how the Republicans took the pledge of allegiance and our currency and used their power to go against what our Country was Founded on and added religious dogma like "One Nation Under God". Our Founding Fathers would be disgusted to see their likeness next to it. Non Believers have the same rights as Believers in America and those inalienable rights our what the Founders framed is our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Nobody needs shares common values, everyone is free to have their own values as long as it doesn't break any laws, nobody needs to confirm to you or your belief system. I'll be the first to admit I know very little of all religions, but as a history buff I know very well the long and winding road of spiritualism and it's effects on mankind, good and bad. However, I can not stand the pride in many of the churches I have been too. The ones that I have visited for long periods of time have claimed that this denomination and church is the one true church, but then they would be hating on everyone that is not in that denomination. I started questioning my faith when I realized they were doing this. Then this one time I met this family who were heavily involved in their church and on paper they seemed like a group of very good people, but when I got deeper than the surface level perfection and started questioning the things they did, they became the meanest people I have ever met in my life. It struck me in my core, I was betrayed by these people I trusted, and it made me think that why should people go to church when at most every turns in the church there is nothing but absolute hate for those that question the teachings and methods and other denominations. It's kind of wrong to worship a loving God when you spew hate for people as well.

Discussions like this are always interesting. I agree with a lot of what he says with certain caveats. I am a child of the 50’s and 60’s. There is a romanticized view of that ‘Christian’ era wherein racism sexism hatred and legalism was very prominent. I lived through much of the civil rights era and saw the church stand back and watch it and some participate as ones who castigated it. I saw neighborhoods where a Christian veneer was placed over the culture while adultery and particularly child abuse and sexual abuse was significant. But it occurred in an outward display of Christian piety. Hence the Jesus movement where people who were ostracized started their own churches. A fact that many Christians ignore is that a moral outward unbeliever is no better off than an immoral one. Jesus had His greatest vitriol for the Pharisees and religious leaders. Fundamentally our culture outwardly has deteriorated. But many of the people engage in this stuff are hurting messed up people. Just the people Jesus came for. So while I agree with much of Mr Hams critique the fact is there is much beneath the surface. Yesterday wasn’t the panacea many claim it was.

My wife and daughter were crying, I went outside and walked around. I didn't want them to see me cry. I walked around the building, crying and saying, "God! Why did you punish me? Why did you bring me into this country? I can't understand anybody. If I try to ask anybody anything, all I hear is, "I don't know." I stopped in front of the apartment and sat on a large rock. Suddenly a bright light came toward me. I jumped to my feet because it looked as if a car was coming directly at me, attempting to run me down! I thought the Romanian Secret Police had tracked me to America, and now they were trying to kill me. But it wasn't a car at all. As the light approached, it surrounded me. From the light I heard the same voice that I had heard so many times in prison. He said "Dumitru, why are you so despaired?" I said, "Why did you punish me? Why did you bring me to this country? I have nowhere to lay my head down. I can't understand anybody." He said, "Dumitru, didn't I tell you I am here with you, also? I brought you to this country because this country will burn." I said, 'then why did you bring me here to burn? Why didn't you let me die in my own country? You should have let me die in jail in Romania! He said, "Dumitru, have patience so I can tell you. Get on this." I got on something next to him. I don't know what it was. I also know that I was not asleep. It was not a dream. It was not a vision. I was awake just as I am now. He showed me all of California and said, "This is Sodom and Gomorrah! All of this, in one day it will burn! It's sin has reached the Holy One." Then he took me to Las Vegas. "This is Sodom and Gomorrah. In one day it will burn." Then he showed me the state of New York. "Do you know what this is?" he asked. I said, "No." He said "This is New York. This is Sodom and Gomorrah! In one day it will burn." Then he showed me all of Florida, "This is Florida." he said. "This is Sodom and Gomorrah! In one day it will burn." Then he took me back home to the rock where we had begun. "IN ONE DAY IT WILL BURN! All of this I have shown you" - I said, "How will it burn?" He said, "Remember what I am telling you, because you will go on television, on the radio and in churches. You must yell with a loud voice. Do not be afraid, because I will be with you." I said, "How will I be able to go? Who knows me here in America? I don't know anybody here." He said, "Don't worry yourself. I will go before you. I will do a lot of healing in the American churches and I will open the doors for you. But do not say anything else besides what I tell you. This country will burn!" I said, "What will you do with the church?" He said, "I want to save the church, but the churches have forsaken me." I said, "How did they forsake you?" He said, "The people praise themselves. The honor that the people are supposed to give Jesus Christ, they take upon themselves. In the churches there are divorces. There is adultery in the churches. There are homosexuals in the churches. There is abortion in the churches and all other sins that are possible. Because of all the sin, I have left some of the churches. You must yell in a loud voice that they must put an end to their sinning. They must turn toward the Lord. The Lord never gets tired of forgiving. They must draw close to the Lord, and live a clean life. If they have sinned until now, they must put an end to it, and start a new life as the Bible tells them to live." I said, "How will America burn?" America is the most powerful country in this world. Why did you bring us here to burn? Why didn't you at least let us die where ALL the Dudumans have died?" He said, "Remember this, Dumitru. The Russian spies have discovered where the nuclear warehouses are in America. When the Americans will think that it is peace and safety - from the middle of the country, some of the people will start fighting against the government. The government will be busy with internal problems. Then from the ocean, from Cuba, Nicaragua, Mexico,,.." (He told me two other countries, but I didn't remember what they were.) "...they will bomb the nuclear warehouses. When they explode, America will burn!" "What will you do with the Church of the Lord? How will you save the ones that will turn toward you?" I asked. He said, "Tell them this: how I saved the three young ones from the furnace of fire, and how I saved Daniel in the lions den, is the same way I will save them." The angel of the Lord also told me, "I have blessed this country because of the Jewish people who are in this country. I have seven million Jews in this country, but they do not want to recognize the Lord. They didn't want to thank God for the blessing they received in this country. Israel doesn't want to recognize Jesus Christ. They put their faith in the Jewish people in America. But, when America burns, the Lord will raise China, Japan, and other nations to go against the Russians. They will beat the Russians and push them all the way to the gates of Paris. Over there they will make a treaty, and appoint the Russians as their leaders. They will then unite against Israel. When Israel realizes she does not have the strength of America behind her, she will be frightened. That's when she will turn to the Messiah for deliverance. That's when the Messiah will come. Then, the church will meet Jesus in the air, and he will bring them back with Him to the Mount of Olives. At that time, the battle of Armageddon will be fought." When I heard all of this I said, "if you are truly the angel of the Lord, and everything you have told me is true, then all you have said must be written in the Bible." He said, "Tell everyone to read from Jeremiah 51:8-15, Revelation chapter 18, and Zechariah chapter 14, where Christ fights against those who possess the earth. After His victory," the angel said, "there will be one flock and one Shepherd. There will be no need for light. The Lamb of God will be the Light. There will be no sickness, no tears, and no deaths. There will only be eternal joy and God will be the ruler. There will be only one language. Only one song. And no need for a translator! ... And, Dumitru," he continued, "a word of warning. If you keep anything from the American people that you are told, I will punish you severely." "How will I know that this is for real -that it will really happen?" I asked. "As a sign that I have spoken to you, tomorrow before you wake, I will send someone to bring you a bed, and at noon I will send you a car and a bucket of honey. After which I will send someone to pay your rent." The next day someone brought Dumitru a bed, and at noon a car arrived with the bucket of honey. His rent was also paid, as God had promised him. (See chapter 10, "THROUGH THE FIRE WITHOUT BURNING.") Then the angel left. Excepted from: Dreams and Visions From God

As a person of faith I usually find these discussions interesting. Although I prefer to ask the question from the other end. There is a growing amount of bemoaning and complaining of how the Christian faith is falling by the wayside and casting blame at outside influences. Such as the education system. Or government policies. My question is what does the world not see in the Christian faith that would make it appealing? To those outside faith, or those who have fallen away, what do they see in Christianity and the lives of those who profess that would make them even consider an need or desire to be involved? At present, very little. The list of tv evangelists that are charlatans and devious is very long. Vapid and empty teaching. Money absconding. Moral failure in top leadership roles. They are akin to the money changers and thieves that Christ drove from the temple. Also a current presidential candidate that even before his first presidency had a ethical and moral litany of marital, business, legal failings and personal information that was available. And yet again with investigations, past and present, convictions, impeachments and questionable ethical actions, he is riding on the coat-tails of a large part of the evangelical American church. And let's not have the argument that God often used and blessed imperfect beings to do his will. There were no blessings or forgiveness bestowed to biblical leaders who showed no sign, care for, or understanding of the laws of God. There had to be turning away from sin. A true repentance without excuses. Are there some who truly prefer that Christianity becomes a state religion? How has that worked in the past? Once gonernment and religion become woven together, it's often government that turns the table and influences faith while using it as a political tool. The Bible is not needed in classrooms to teach and promote good manners, morals, citizenship responsibilities and caring for others. Not at all. Are Christians so weak in their faith that they need the support and influence of government?

Interesting. As a Black Man who is a descendant of the enslaved, i left Christianity about 8 years ago. I first left the church because of church foolishness but i studied my bible daily cover to cover for about 15 years. I got real close to the bible right after 9/11 up to around 2016. I acquired a ton of biblical knowledge, wisdom and understanding during that time and i went to go visit a church in Dallas around 2014. I had not been in church in around15 years and when i finally went back, i saw more homosexuals and ATM machines in the church than i saw bibles. So i left and said i wont come back until another 15 years. I was content with my studying. 2016 comes around and i compared how the Christians treated Donald Trump with how they previously treated Obama and when Donald Trump won i had a ton of questions. I was born and raised on the West Coast but now im living in the south so im living in the region where a lot of my questions are aimed. My faith was still strong but i had some serious questions. Christians were unable to answer my questions. In fact, my fellow Christians were the most dishonest. So then the Black Hebrew Israelite became somewhat interesting but i did not want to be lied to again so i spent about a year researching them. They lie just as much as the typical Christian. So my questions became more complex and deeper. Eventually i ended up taking a trip to Egypt and really taking an interest to history. So eventually i realized that much of the bible are myths that can be found in earlier cultures. When i was able to find out that Noah Eve and Moses never existed, then i was able to see the destruction that Christianity had on my community. I then moved to the Dominican Republic and really got a close up on how Christianity/Catholicism played and plays a major roll in the destruction Dominican communities. So its the mythological stories that have no historical evidence. Thats the worst part. Then its the oppression that Christianity has had on the world. I was fine with the slave master giving my ancestors Moses... But when i realized Moses never existed, it allowed me to dig deep and take note on how millions of Europeans and Africans were introduced to this religion. And i think this is one of the main reasons why Christianity is fading away in most developed places. Oppressive mythology that is not needed.

You will be instructed to change or be kicked out until you comply. In many government buildings you will not be allowed to proudly talk about your faith or have Christian displays at your office/desk or your funding may be cut or eliminated. Yet if your Gay, well sure, we'll hang flags and posters, have HR trainings and dedicate a whole month to those beliefs. The Pendulum is swinging too far and the scales are not balanced/equal. If we cannot talk about our faith/belief at school or work, why should any other faith or belief system be promoted?

You said: "Secular humanism started hundreds of years ago, and right off the bat it was playing the long game.". You are correct. And it was directly caused by the Protestant reformation. The Reformation was founded by questioning the authority of popes and priests. The Enlightenment took the next step and questioned the authorities of kings and gods. In fact the US is founded on those secular, humanist, liberal, and utilitarian notions. As James Madison said: “The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries.”
