I’ve always felt the same with travel sports- and I’m so glad I’m not alone to think this is absolutely a ridiculous way to spend your life every weekend- so many of my friends completely neglect themselves for their kids- no social life - no family life- it’s on the road and unhealthy! Absolutely crazy insane to me/ expensive, bad food, waste of time and makes the kid the center of everything and everyone’s calendar.

I sent this to a few people great listen. I have issues on the other side, I have no anxiety or worries even during turbulent times and cant relate to my wife who stresses about every little thing. To me as long as you make choices after thinking things through then the results are the results and you did your best. If had periods of oife I worked 2 full time jobs and it just was what it was. Now Im in a good spot and its part hard work part luck but I dont really think of the oast often.

It's interesting to hear from someone with 'a very particular set of skills'. I grew up outside of the states and coming to the states was a massive culture shock. Only in the states was I introduced to the concept of gratitude shaming. The states is not the best country in the world. It's the best for some. Just as any other country is the best country for some. I have friends who moved to different parts of the world of their own accord and love where they live now. I know people who moved to the states voluntarily and love it. There's no question that some people's lives would've significantly improved in another country if only they'd had the opportunity to leave. I've never understood why shaming those who are suffering is part of any culture, nor why beliefs must be imposed or forced on anyone who doesn't agree. The difference is choice. People are happy because they were able to leave a situation which didn't suit them, because they were allowed to live where they voluntarily chose- not forcibly transferred and entrapped in a foreign environment to which they're unable to adapt. Most of those who are gratitude shaming haven't spent a great deal of time living in these countries and are basing their entire belief system solely on propaganda. I've dispelled so many rumours about places which simply aren't true at all. I could list a thousand worse incidents off the top of my head, worse than what happens in these 'countries we should be afraid of' ('The Village' comes to mind). Sure they're not for everyone- but then again, neither is the states.

I would say especially for mental health conoditions, the tricky thing is when your body's response is getting in the way of day to day functioning, or stops you frmo being able to do the things that you need to help yourself to get to a better point. Best to get help if you're getting to a point where you're losing hope and suffering extensively

I am glad you brought up Jack's concern about happiness. To be happy means a lot of things, pleasing your parents, and other family members, especially, helping your kids, your wife, I don't think it is a continued experience all the time. Your are happy when you have done a good, job, happy when you have pick a winner stock. But all these things take planning and work. I like the answer John Derlony came up with.

1:44:28 - what changes about being married is that you're saying you're going to stick by this person until the end. You announce to your family and friends that this is your ride or die. And you promise to this person that you will be their ride or die. That means going through REALLY hard shit together. And if you actually care about your vows (aka the promises you make to others) that means you'll be with them through times when you might even like them. It means sacrificing your ego at times for the benefit of the marriage. It's different from just being together. Not being married means you have an out. When you get married, you're saying that's it. Through thick and thin. Read the vows and really analyze what they say. As a person who's been married for 17 years and together for 21 years, you realize that marriage means a lot more than just getting together. 1:46:33 - 100%. Just committing to your vows and saying we WILL stay together. And try and work on yourselves to make the marriage work. You don't just bail when it gets hard. Now if your other partner refuses to do the growth required to maintain the changes that happen in a marriage, then that's really really hard because they are not being serious about their side of the vows.

ODD is intense! One of my first clients when I worked in behavioral health was a woman diagnosed with oppositional defiance order. She was hilariously funny. Had the best comebacks and one liners and we had a lot of fun together. But when she was having behaviors she would literally need to be placed in a padded room. She once ate her own coat.

Friendship is hard. It is just that we have changed the definition to include all your people on Facebook, co-workers, or whatever. In reality, you keep up with maybe a handful of people that have your full trust and attention. I also think this is why marriages also fail so much since we have blurred the lines of married and dating so rules and expectations have started to apply to both in similar or same way.
