There is a zero percent chance this ever would have had any practical use at scale. Anyone in a setting where they can wear a duty belt is carrying a fixed blade instead of that shit. It fixes a non existent problem.
@Evergreen14003 ай бұрын
I prefer fixed blades but it’s a lot more common to see a folder clipped somewhere to the plate carrier / ballistic vest than a fixed blade on a duty belt. Duty belts get crowded fast and not many knife clips are going to fit over a duty belt the only 2 options are if the sheath slides on to the outside duty belt or if the duty belt has laser cuts in it that you could clip the sheath through. My knife is on my plate carrier not my duty belt. I use to carry a fixed blade it was the S&W double edged dagger and I carried it on my chest but I eventually switched over to w folder that I keep on my chest.

So I actually have 2 of these. The reason I got them is I have a couple knives with out pocket clips or quick deploy thumb devices. First, it took me about 20 mins to figure out how it even worked. Second, the knife sits high on your belt so drawing the knife is very awkward. Third, the blade is held in by a friction wedge that you have to pull a tab down to get it to hold, not a bad idea unless you have a blade coating like smooth cerakote then it is a gamble if it will hold or not. Fourth if you have to jump or run the blade will come out and drop your knife to the ground. I tried using them for everyday carry at work ( Construction). However it was an awful idea. Removing the knife though awkward is easy. However re holstering it while on your belt is next level aggregation and an easy way to cut your finger ( I did) or stick your self in your side or foot. It saddens me to say this thing sucks… I ended up having 2 knives drilled and tapped for universal clips and added adjustable top clamp thumb studs that act like Emerson wave openers. It actually cost me less to do the latter…. Win some you lose some…

All black washed stainless and heavy, but the assisted opening fast and at about $20 I don't care if I lose it...which means that I probably won't. Back in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s at gun shows, (and this was when the Buck 110 and excellent $20 lifetime guarantee Schrade LB7 and Gerber folding sportsman and Kershaw 4” lockback folder were some of the most carried EDC blades, and flippers and liner locks and pocket clips for that matter didn’t even exist), there were a lot of guys making and selling leather loop sheaths carried scout fashion on your waist at appendix position that held knives this way. You inserted or “loaded” the barely open blade edge up with the spine of the knife at the top of the sheath. There was no way to cut yourself because the knife was almost all the way closed, and you’d grab the butt and pull out. The blade would slide along a hard nylon wedge type disk sandwiched in between the leather halves, and deploy open in your hand, very fast. No going to your belt for the vertical leather sheath those knives all were carried in. Nylon, because obviously you didn’t want your edge skating against metal. I saw a guy demonstrating one at a gun show and bought one on the spot, but what he did that no one picked up on, which in hindsight was obvious, was use an ancient junky POS folder that was so loose that any pressure at all against the blade edge would easily open the knife. When the junk knife “locked” open with the standard lockback there must have been a ton of blade play, but like any good magician he had us all focused on the sheath and not the cheap ass loosy goosy knife. So I get home and load up my razor sharp and tight hinge custom fileworked stag Uncle Henry LB7 and give it a smooth pull the first time, and MY blade cuts directly into the nylon disk, slides up and out of the wedge, and slices the entire sheath neatly in half! First time. $10 down the drain, LOL! Took me 3 months till I spotted the guy again, and in front of a bunch of guys listening to his pitch handed him my knife and told him to try it. He had no choice but to load mine up, which I’d sharpened up special for him, and proceeded to slice right thru his as well. I got my money back and he lost that group of potential sales anyway. Once thumb-studs became more common, along with the Emerson opening feature on their knives, followed by flippers and Spyderco’s / Spydie holes taking off, this whole good idea in concept, bad idea in practice disappeared.

Fortunately I was in Iraq when that came out and didn't see it. I've got my core go to knives and multi tool choices. SpiderCo rescue 93mm, name brands stockman, Leatherman and Benchmade auto opener or a fixed blade.

It was made illegal in Massachusetts You're not allowed to have a sheath that automatically deploys a folded blade when drawn

As someone who managed to cut off the part of my index finger pad with a shittty folding knife while hiking, I highly recommend to stay away from knives with moving parts and choose fixed blades

I bought some kydex and took my folding knife i work with and molded the kydex around it while open so i can carry it as a fixed blade when I'm working, i don't have to keep opening and closing it and putting it back in my pocket, i did it to my spyderco pm2, because of how the handles are kind of squared off, it worked great, so i only have to carry one knife, and i don't have to keep taking it in and out of my pocket or laying it down till i need it next, i love it

So why don't you just carry a fixed blade
@DABinCHRIST4 ай бұрын
@@KingOfknivestactical I do sometimes, I have tons of knives, but i always carry a pocket knife, and nothing I'm doing requires a fixed blade, and I don't like carrying multiple knives, and where I work allot they don't want to see people with fixed blades on, and a pocket fixed blade has the same problem, I can't get it back in my pocket when I'm kneeling down or doing certain things so I end up leaving it on the ground, same with a pocket knife, this way I just put the empty kydex sheath on if i think I will be using a knife allot, nobody sees or notices the empty sheath, but if I need it I just start putting it in the kydex so I don't have to keep opening and closing it or leaving it on the ground because I cannot put it back in my pocket, carrying a fixed blade is not always a great idea, the point is I have one knife, one knife to carry, one to sharpen, but the kydex gives me ease of access if I'm constantly using it, I have left quite a few knives on the ground laying around and never found them again because I couldn't put it back in pocket or I was using it allot, this simplifies the process, it makes it easier

@DABinCHRIST ok where do you wear the kydex just curious

@@KingOfknivestactical about the 4 o clock position, on my right side, perfect access even when kneeling, and honestly I can just slide it to any position I want, but typically it's on the 4o clock, dude it sounds weird, but I love it, is a small sheath, was cheap and easy to make, and it is just extremely convenient,

@@DABinCHRISTif they see you carrying a folder in sheath they just think it's a fixed blade

Cool idea as a concept. Impractical in a real life situation. Ideas like these are what pushes innovation forward so I give this knife 5 stars, but I would not carry it

This breaks the folding knife's design to stay in a closed position which is strongest when the knife if fully closed. I can imagine a folding knife accidentally opening in this thing and the wearer reaching down to an exposed blade.

If i have a belt on i'll just use a fixed blade. This is like wearing a drop leg holster for a subcompact handgun

The buck 110 has a leather case you can get that allows this

Knives are utility tools for boxes, small game, letters, watermelon that’s kinda crap a gun is a self protection tool where seconds matter the great equalizer.
