Bro, you ate a banana on the boat!?!!?! My dad would kill me for that! Anyways, love your videos, keep up the good work!! Your videos keep me massively entertained. I'm 16 and just became a senior in highschool with divorced parents and my mom, has cancer so I rarely get out of the house when I'm at her house. My favorite hobby is fishing and when I can't do go, I like sitting back and watching your vids. Almost makes me feel like I'm out there!!! There is multiple theory's as why bananas are bad luck, one theory is that there was lots of lost boats (ships) found to have rotten bananas on board. Being that it was the 1700's and people are superstitious they made the connection that bananas equal lost ships. The theory that I like more is that bananas have a very fast spoil rate. Shipping bananas had to be very fast, from point A to point B with no stopping. However, banana shipping also wasn't very profitable. So in order to support a ships income they would put fishing lines behind the ship to catch fish, but due to the speed of the ship oftentimes they would come up with very little or no fish. People at the time did not make the connection that they were going too fast to be fishing. Instead they opted for the idea that bananas are bad luck for fishing.

You have to make sure your still getting movement in your bait when mooching, retrieve it up the water column and drop it back down continuously, reel into the fish when they strike and keep tension.
@MysticNorthwest

Lol so funny how ppl get when there’s a banana on the boat 😂 Keep your drag loose, as you’re slowly reeling up you’ll feel the pressure of your bait spinning, once you feel that hook get loaded up real down and give a light hook set. If you’re able to find bait balls that are 150’ and above that’s your money maker, and keep your bait moving don’t just let it sit there, when mooching you’re actively fishing Having a lot more luck mooching than trolling in Washington

Fun Video to watch. I grew up in SFO and now live in Oregon, where salmon fishing is still pretty good, though not like it was 20-30 years ago. I used to fish for stripers in the bay with an 18 foot Bayliner I/O. Summer afternoons when the fog came in made it extremely dangerous, er, STUPID to be on the water much past noon. Tight lines, my friend.

For circle hooks you want your drag a little tight. When they bite you wanna *reelreelreel!!!* for a good 3 seconds then bring up that rod tip and back the drag off. The one you released had a spotted dorsal so probably a King/Spring/Chinook. I usually go by tail/dorsal to ID.

After the inerds and blood being drained it probably lost 5-6lbs
@johngoodell2775
@johngoodell2775 2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend putting it in neutral as soon as you grab the rod. Its one thing to keep a 6 lb coho on while trolling speed... but you will lose a lot of chinook if you dont stop your boat. mature chinook put too much pressure on your rig and when you keep moving you will tend to bring them up to the top where they head shake and throw hooks. If you stop you can let them run down and play them under the surface more and have better control over tension .

I guessed 16 to 18lb’er when you put him in the boat. It takes a big salmon to go over 25lbs. I’m not trying to tell you how to fish but here’s who we mooch. 20 to 25 pulls down. Then teal it straight up at a moderate speed. Not slow but moderate. One other thing. Circle hooks are great but I have yet to see a hook sharp enough straight out of the packet. Don’t believe the lazer sharpened. Sharpen your hooks until you can’t drag it across your fingernail. A really sharp hook is where it’s at. Pretty hard to spit a circle hook that razor sharp and completely hooked up and doing their job. Just some tips. I’ve been salmon fishing over 55 years and I learned a little. I can alway learn more and I’ve learned a lot from you when it comes to fish other than salmon or steelhead. Love your videos, just wish I lived closer. Love to meet you.

Had an epic day of Ocean Coho yesterday in Oregon. 20+ fish hooked, tons of natives released, kept 4/6 hatchery brats we could. Had a crazy thing happen, had a blue shark take a fish. Never had that happen before. Certainly have seen sharks around, but blues have never been bad about taking fish in my experience. Edit: The fish you let go was a Chinook. Checkmark spots on the back. Coho in the ocean rarely show any spotting at all. Gumline isn't a great indicator by itself. Had a Coho yesterday that had really dark gums, but was 100% Coho. Worth it for you though, got a bigger fish! lol

My experience with mooching is that you have to locate this fish on the graph first, then you drop the bait down (i used cut herring). You let it sit. Lift up slowly, if it feels heavier the fish is on. Don't set the hook, line is too stretchy, reel down, keep pressure on, fish is hooked, now just have to land it..
