Sarah’s natural affinity with people is impressive/ it makes a huge difference to her photos

Not only have you set the gold standard for street photography but, almost more importantly, your films show us what you saw (and heard) before we see each photo. It's a rare gift to not only excel at something but be to also be able to reveal to others the mystery of how it's done. Your interactions with the people you meet is a masterclass in itself. I strongly recommend anyone aspiring to be a street photographer to join one of your workshops.

That brought some memories back from a long time back, I never remember the tide being in, but I remember those glass verandas. Cracking work.

Fascinating monochrome/black and white photo art! The moving color images and the resulting photos make it clear how - here in particular through the black and white technique - the view is drawn to the essentials. I look forward to every new video from you and I'm always excited to see which photos you choose and show here. Sometimes I guess from the short opening film which image you take out of motion and let it become static. But sometimes I'm wrong with my assumption - like at 5:40 - I would have bet on the lady with the dog ;-). I also like the picture with the two little boys in the foreground on the left at 2:29 and at exactly the same moment the two big boys in the background seem to be looking straight into the camera. The image cut with the girl on the left at 3:58 - wonderful or father and child (I was hoping for this motif ;-)! at 4:48! Even though I have a few favorites, that doesn't mean I don't love all of the photos. I look at all the pictures very carefully and have a separate story for each picture, but that would go beyond the scope here. I write so much already!! ;-) Last but not least: I think that the photos basically also show your respectful view of the people depicted, everyone is to be seen as an individual and everyone is beautiful in their own way. No matter how old they are.

Hi Sarah, I’m also using the 28mm summicron and it’s super awesome. Can I also ask what viewfinder did you go for?
@WalkLikeAlice2 жыл бұрын
It’s the plastic Leica bright line finder.

Just watched and enjoyed it for the second time. Lovely selection of shots. Would you reckon the 28mm is wide enough in comparison to the 21mm you often use?
@WalkLikeAlice2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. Thanks for your kind words. I don’t use a 21mm, that’s Jeff’s department but I haven’t found any reason to go wider on the street. Hope that helps. Sarah.

Seeing this video and the preceding ones, I get the feeling Sarah is teetering on a precipice of making, I wouldn’t say better images but images that are timeless. She may well have made great images in the past, but it’s fascinating to see her work and be immersed in the human condition. Perhaps 50mm and subject isolation ? Her 28mm images are well framed and provide context to the subject but the visual weight is distributed throughout the frame. No offence meant.

Thanks for your comments. I know some photographers use different focal lengths to force them to see differently, but Sarah searched for a focal length that captured what she saw, and that was the 28mm. With the Leica, she doesn’t even get to see how the lens sees the image. It’s literally a field of view and what she wants to include in it. On the odd occasion that she has used a longer lens, her images became more detached. There wasn’t a connection between the photographer and subject. I understand what you are saying about the visual weight within the image but the idea of lots of elements within the frame is part of her style. She sees the world that way with, for me, an almost Winogrand-esque approach to how the frame is filled. No offence taken btw 🙂 Jeff.
