Interesting conversation as usual. Your guests are always people who have stories worth listening and that present different point of view about things that open your mind.. If you have one..

Just wanted to point out the situation in Connecticut in HS T&F. There are several trans-girls who are dominating there. This has greatly affected college scholarships and state championships at the HS level. At the HS level, medical transition is not required - which of course should be the case for student athletes who are minors. I'm surprised that Chris was not aware of this situation. I support trans athlete, but currently the trans-female issue is very problematic.

Fabulous, fascinating interview! Loved hearing this conversation. I have a few friends with trans kids and will be sharing it with them. Chris is such a great role model and I agree....his example is aspirational.

Am a big supporter of those in the LGBQT community. The one area I have a concern for is female trans where there may be an advantage for the trans athlete versus an athlete born female. Since a born female will not have had the advantage of muscle development, stamina that a trans female might have,

Super insightful podcast and really glad I came back to listen to it. Even a mental health therapist, I sometimes muddle my words and say things wrong and just try to learn when I am corrected. I both appreciate Rich's willingness to have this conversation with that in mind, and Chris's willingness to kindly correct (knowing Rich has also tried to do his "homework".)

**Opinion Based Comment** Racewalking is on the fringe of what I would classify as a traditional or valid sport. Just my opinion as a lifelong athlete. Its possible to make a case that ANY activity can be a sport, but there is a line being flirted with here that seems unnatural and maybe even a bit ridiculous. If racewalking is a sport, then race crawling, walking backwards, around the back shot put or javelin, and tiptoeing could all be regarded as sports. Hopefully racewalking is as far as we push the envelope. And I dont think its at all disrespectful or unreasonable to question the credibility of this sport. I appreciate the chance to connect with the trans community in a way that presents them as reasonable, calm, and respectful members of our community. The media usually depicts them as angry protesters, with unreasonable stances claiming that science on their side is settled w/o acknowledging the large body of science that contradicts their opinions. I wish our society and culture the best in learning how to integrate them into our society in the most inclusive way while simultaneously not opening up the flood gates to all of their demands. As we know, its concerning to have children making decisions about their sexuality and its incredibly unfair to allow trans women into women’s sports. If your knee jerk reaction is hatred towards me for my viewpoint, you’re part of the problem. I’m open to other viewpoints, but I’m not open to hateful comments and anger. I’m willing to grow and evolve in my perceptions of these issues, but I’m am so over the hatred when my views, questions, and stances are all reasonable.

Something I can contribute to your admirable quest for knowledge is that many people mention "letting children decide gender/sexuality" is to ask that person a question. When did you decide or know your gender/sexuality? Or sometimes I am snarky and say something like "yeh remember when you turned 18 and went a registered your gender at the government office?" Wait for reply "no you don't because that's not a thing because you just knew and so do trans kids!" . That is just something to think about.

@@simonmasset2238 So he can take levels up to the maximum natural range legally in sport where I am sure where most biological men are typically going to fall somewhere in the middle. Still not apples to apples fair but maybe given the deficit in female musculature development during puberty it evens things out.

Interesting personal story, but disappointing political discussion. He doesn't answer the difficult questions. Maybe it has not happened untill now, but what if a boy goes into girls sports? What if he does it without hiding his intentions of going to the girls locker room and winning because he is a boy? Just because it has not happened so far, doesn't mean it won't happen and we shouldn't be prepared for it. Also with the medical issues around young trans-people... At what age should they be allowed to have treatment? At 16, 14, 12 or at 5 years of age? At what age should they be taken seriously? Or who should make that decision? A 5 year old can hardly do anything without their parents. Could it not be, that some parents are hyper sensitive to the issue and influence their kids in one way or another with good or bad intentions? These are the questions that need to be adressed and he doesn't want to touch them. A missed opportunity to paint a diverse picture. He's talking in black and white categories when it comes to politics.

A "boy" will never endure seeing his body change because of estrogen, having to present female and facing enormous discrimination because of being seeing perceived both as a woman and transgender just to win in sports. I don't think you realize what transgender people go through in their journeys. No one who isn't trans would accept going through that, without underlying mental health problems. And then, if they do go through all that, are being put on hormone replacement therapy for a while until their muscle mass and body composition closely resembles a cisgender woman ... well they'll barely have an advantage anymore, and all of that would have been for nothing. Regarding your other point. 5 year-old children barely have any hormonal differences between genders. This starts changing at puberty, so in a kid's early teens. By then, they are mature enough to decide whether they want to be put on puberty blockers or not. Quick reminder that puberty blockers are not definitive, they just push back puberty until the person stops taking them: this gives teens suspecting they are transgender time to make an actual decision. Not allowing potentially trans teens puberty blockers on the other hand, that's forcing their body to change in a way that they might end up hating, and later force them to undergo surgery when it could have been prevented by blockers early on. If after a few years on blockers a teen realizes that they're not trans, they'll stop taking them and puberty will run its normal course, just a few years late. If they do realize they are trans, it alleviates potential body dysphoria a ton, and avoid them having to undergo top surgery for instance (for trans men) or lazer hair removal (for trans women). No one is saying to give hormones to teens under the age of 15 or 16, but if they are considered responsible enough to drive at that age, they should be considered responsible enough to decide their gender. When people mention allowing younger children to transition, they're thinking of a social transition, not a medical transition. A social transition is allowing them to use a different name/pronouns and dress according to what feels best. This is more than enough for younger trans kids to feel a lot better in their own skin. Parents influence their children in a lot of ways, that's for sure. But if you listen to trans people talk about their experiences, a lot of them knew very early on, as early as 4 or 5 years old. And an overwhelming amount of trans people did not have LGBT parents, supportive parents or even parents that knew what transgender means. So I think letting your kids be open about how they feel about themselves and letting them experiment, whether or not they are transgender, can never be a bad thing.

You can nuance the hell out of this stuff, but it won't matter to most of us. And it's getting a bit sickening. Plus I do not agree born-males should compete against born-females and I don't believe the explanation.

@Aramis3737 And you think you speak for most of "us" I guess. Somehow, living in a PC bubble has altered perception of most of the rest of the world - for you and a few like you. Claimed identity is not biology. I guess your type will destroy sports and still feel self-righteous. Thanks for that.

Wonderful podcast! Just wanted to let you know, Rich, that using the word 'transgendered', as you did a couple of times in the podcast, is not as politically correct as the word 'transgender', because by putting the past tense on the word it makes it seem that there is an end to being transgender as opposed to the reality of the identity being a part of you for the rest of one's life. Other than that tiny critique thoroughly enjoyed the podcast.
