The one criticism I have about the entire series is that there's too much "filler" inbetween the really important moments, but there will come more huge and incredibly wholesome moments like the chalkboard scene down the road. I hope the anime will get more seasons so anime-only watchers will be able to see them.

The chalkboard scene always brings me to tears. The show only NAMES Komi's social anxiety, but she clearly shows a lotta hallmarks signs of being autistic as well (not getting social cues, sensory issues, selective nonverbality, meowing at her cat doll, etc), and as a spectrum surfer myself, one thing i treasure is when someone understands my issues, but rather than being coddling or condescending, they make an earnest attempt to "speak my language". To me, tadano taking up the chalk instead of trying to just keep talking at her was him doing EXACTLY that, and it means so much to how i see him as a character

The chalkboard scene in the beginning of the manga was just as impactful; tough to find a stronger start to a rom-com than this one. Tadano is the ultimate chad.

Many anime do this, but you have so many characters here that this its more notorious. I'm talking about the word-play for the names: Tadano Hitohito: sounds like "just a (regular) person" Komi Shouko: sounds like "komyushou", _Communication disorder_ And Osana Najimi, next episode, sounds exactly as "osananajimi", _Childhood friend_ And everyone is like this in this anime 😅

You wanted a change from the drama and sadness, this is the perfect choice. Komi-san is full of cuteness, moments that warm the heart and characters that will make you fall in love with them or burst into laughter (some risk of scaring you on the contrary but hey...). Tadano is nicknamed "Chadano" by fans of the series and you've already had an example of his potential here, I can't wait for you to see the rest.

This was the manga I discovered in 2020 and helped me get through such a lonely year. As someone who greatly struggled with social anxiety in middle school (I soon took group therapy and it really helped) and still do to an extent, this series was so relatable but also comforting. I hope you love this series too!

In this first episode, during the chalkboard scene, the score starts with a gloooooooomy and sad music while Komi-san is writting (named "Me so far" or something like that). But then here comes Tadano-chad and, as he starts writting, we can hear the first notes of "To the first friend", which turns into a bright and even joyful song. If you look carefuly at both scoresheets, you can see that the notes from "Me so far" are into "To the first friend" but being lifted towards a brighter future.

Komi is not in my top shows but the blackboard scene has always been my favorite and gets me emotional. I also love it more when the show is less cartoony, and we get to see Komi as she is, not as the narrative portrays her. She's usually shown in 2 ways: toony or unaprochable goddess. One scene in particular in season 2, actually, showed her as she is, just a girl, and she really is beautiful in her human fragility (the one in which she wants to ask 'buff best boi' for lunch and Tadano helps).

24 episodes is what Netflix calls seasons 1 & 2 combined. BTW, there are better translations (well, at least more COMPLETE translations) than the Netflix one. Netflix left most of the chalkboard untranslated. I subscribe to Netflix, but due to the Netflix Delay I put on "the hat" to watch this one.

The character names in this show are really funny, like the main guys name is Tadano Hitohito, which means just a regular person Komi Shouko sounds like komyushou, which means communication disorder!

I love this anime so MUCH, even more the manga, Komi in the manga starts being more open and is talking a lot more where in the latest chapters she’s able to say full sentences and talk to people! Well am kinda sad that this might never get a season 3 and the fact that the manga is going to end by entering its final arc I think on the 24th… this has to be no doubt the best anime and manga I’ve read and watched 😭 10/10 recommend

Not sure if you saw the studio that made it, but they’re called OLM and they apparently made other popular series like Summertime Rendering, Odd Taxi, Don’t Toy with Me Nagatoro (as well as a LOT of Pokémon). I think they’re most known for Komi now though!
