This is the break-in portion, the "research" we did said to drive it under load. So we drove up a 12% grade hill. And rolled coal the whole way!

Flip down the visor and read: 1/2 throttle cold start normal temp, full throttle cold start in freezing temp. I was surprised about that.

That truck is a coal rolling beast! Unfortunately for me bullnose fords are hard to find in decent shape here, they all rusted out years ago. Seemed like a good drive, trans didn't sound too happy but lasted. I have 3 IDIs, they all smoke a little blue which clears up quickly. One of them, a 1989 f450 has noisy injectors when cold but they go silent when it builds the slightest bit of heat. Pretty sure it needs a thermostat since it can't even get into the normal temp range.

Mines a hard start, but never smokes blue at all, just a bit white when it's cold. Had to shove some cardboard in front of the rad to get it to warm up at all with it being so cold out.
@OBS_Ford_Diesels_Inc2 жыл бұрын
@@CharredSteak I no longer have the 6.9. Truck was getting far too rusty and had enough wrong with it in addition to the rotted body to cut it up. I do, however have 3 7.3 IDIs. One in a 1989 F-super duty, a factory 7.3 IDI turbo in a 1988 f350 4x4 dump truck, and another 7.3 in a 1991 F-super duty. All 3 are great trucks and will be sticking around as long as I can save them. Wisconsin winters are tough on anything steel.

@@OBS_Ford_Diesels_Inc Managed to find a relatively clean 93 a few days ago, minimal rust on the body thank god. If it weren't for the flashing OD light the truck would be mint. Pretty sure i lost the clutch in the TC

Hey boys I have a question for you I have a n p 435 gear box from a 302 , will that box hold up to a 6.9? If it matters my final ratio is 4.11 . Also I seen what I think was a solid axle swap, what did you use? And does it need a suspension to be level afterwords? In the course of trial n error any thing you would do different.

Either the pump timing is wrong or you turned the fuel up really high, shouldn't be smoking that much especially with a turbo.

it has a built injection pump and over sized injectors. Unfortunately the turbo doesn't boost until 2,500 or so. So at low RPM's it just isn't getting enough air.

@@ThisGuysStuffandStuff yeah but our motors the way they made our pistons the tops is thinner and if remember correctly the chevrolet ricardo bowl pistons have a special layer on them that allows them to handle more heat our motors 1250f is dead red on ours and that is for short period of time. The chevrolet pistons could do 1450f as dead red short period of time if i remember correctly . Then we got the issue our motors also have a bad habit of piston swelling and a really loose 2nd compression ring gap making for another danger piston slap from detonation running past the 1st compression ring and rapid expansion from the heat causing our pistons to slap a skirt off chevrolet engines ran a tight ring gap for both 1st and 2nd compression rings.

@@rickcooperjr62864 Thanks for the info, we definitely are not pros, so i did not know the Detroit's had a special layer on them. i do know that you can get the coded pistons for the Detroit's. That's aftermarket though. But i guess it doesn't surprise me to much. at the time Detroit was still a really good company, Perhaps they expected people to work them too hard. I just wish at the time they design them for power and longevity, and not fuel economy so much. oh well...

This engine came from the blue f250 they have. Supposedly had over 600,000 miles until they removed it and completely rebuilt it. The brown f250 in the video had a bad 6.9 with the ATS turbo. They put the turbo on the 6.9 they rebuilt from the blue f250. It has ARP head studs, bigger injectors and a 100 cc injection pump. It's built to make power, but strong enough to not blow up like the previous engine. They bought this brown f250 with the bad turbo charged 6.9. This is the truck that started the channel, so nice that it finally runs!
