This is a great song. My youngest son and his wife are 25 years old and they know and love this song and the Oogum Boogum Song. My oldest son thanked me one day for exposing my children to all kinds of music.

You have to do the "Oogum Boogum" song! I grew up with Brenton Wood's great songs! Songs were a lot shorter back in those days, and these two songs were big hits released in 1967, which is probably why you never heard of him. Thanks for another great reaction, guys! ✌💙✌

As soon as the chorus kicked in I recognized this tune. I'm pretty sure it was an AM radio staple years ago. Late 60’s? Early 70’s?

Popular so many years ago here in the South. Talking late 60s, early 70s. As was Oogum, Boogum. Peace out.

That keyboard music in the middle reminds me of the British group, the Animals. My sisters and I used to dance to this back in the day when we were young. Songs could only be so long back then in order to be played on the radio.

My band used to cover this song in the late 80s/early 90s. We did several Motown songs, even though we were all white folks. But this song always got the dancers on the floor, as did some of our other Motown covers.

I know this song. My parents used to listen to the oldies radio station so I had to listen to this music.
@tmobile80314 ай бұрын
If you’ve ever worked a job with the radio on all day, you know you can’t listen to most stations because they repeat constantly. Oldies is the way to go. That’s how I discovered this song and it has long been one of my favorites.

@@CJ-Fischer if you were born in the 60’s, you were a baby back then. My boys were born in the 60’s also & they say the 80’s were their music. They were teenagers then. The 60’s music was the Boomers era, Flower Power & Hippies, Vietnam war… Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, The British Invasion: The Beatles, The Animals, Mama & The Papa’s, The Grass Roots, Bell Bottom Jeans, flower shirts. Anyway, just giving you some of the 60’s when you & my boys were born.👍💜☮️ Peace Out! ☮️

I was a DJ from the mid 60s until the mid 80s here in the UK and in sunny Spain and to be honest I'd completely forgotten about this. I'm pleased that it still has its toe tapping quality today as it did back in the days of Mono. Love your work 🇬🇧

Tasty! Brenton Wood (aka Alfred Jesse Smith) deserves far more recognition that he gets these days. From what I understand he was based in Compton/Long Beach, California, hence the palm trees in the video. When you're ready for more from him also check out some of these tasty tunes -- "I Think You've Got Your Fools Mixed Up", "I Like The Way You Love Me", "Me And You", "Baby You Got It", and of course, the "Oogum Boogum Song".

Great review guys. In the UK (prior to the Beatles - Hey Jude in August 1968 ) if you wanted a song to be a hit on the radio it had to be less than 3 minutes long. It is amazing just how many 60's singles are 2 mins 58 seconds. All of the so called experts said the Beatles track was too long to be a radio hit. Could you please review George Michael - Fastlove. Incredible track. Thank you.

Even though Wood was from Louisiana, this record was out of L.A. (the Double Shot label). His songs are popular in the low rider community too. Besides "Oogum Boogum Song," he also had some minor hits with "Baby You Got It" and "Catch You On the Rebound." Also good ones, but not as big as the other two.
