A few years ago, probably 2 or 3years Al built a cold storage room (root celler) in the basement of their house it . Maybe he should show or mention it again. He hangs his Prosciutto in there to cure. I'm sure you can find the vids about building it.

Good morning Lumnah's! I was finally able to get out to our property with my son and starting to get our spring bear hunting setup underway. There is lots to do to prepare but out in the back of our property 90% of the battle is to get our gear out there. I'm hoping to have this new video posted in the next day or two! I find a lot of inspiration in watching you guys around the homestead! Come and visit the channel and help us grow. Keep up the good work and keep following your dreams!!!

That greenhouse is fantastic! Years ago(I 'm 70 yes old now) I worked for a man who grew geraniums in his greenhouse, a large one like yours, and football mums both inside and outside in the field. My job was to take off side buds so mums would produce 1 large flower. Back breaking but rewarding. But all I remember is the smell in that greenhouse. It was so fresh and earthy, and it was so quiet. There was only me and another woman and the owner. The geraniums had to be cleaned of dead leaves and watered. They were beautiful when they were all in bloom! I think you should grow miniature cucumbers in your greenhouse, they produce large yields. Maybe some marigolds for the chickens! They love the flower petals, makes the yolks very orange! Just my thoughts, stay healthy and God Bless.

You guys were Rockin at digging holes. Ha! Ha! When we had Eggs & Bacon for Brekky on a scout camp, we would tell the scouts, it is a one-day commitment for the chicken, but a lifetime commitment for the pig. It took them a little while to work out what we meant. Another great chapter towards your greenhouse. I am also interested in what you could grow in there. Our climate in Aussie is a bit different and we do not experience the extremes of cold that you do.

Try: okra, black eyed peas, blue lake pole beans, yard long beans, armenian cucumbers, thyme, basil (italian and thai), flat leaf parsley (it's amazingly healthy), oregano, honeydew melons, and at some point you have to try glass gem corn and popcorn, just because it's fun--even if you only get a few ears, it's a blast.

Yummy those burritos look so good. We've found that adding organic black beans to your recipe is a nice way to mix it up. Yesterday you asked for lunch ideas. Since we also love left overs, making ample amounts of tuna fish, egg salad and bacon allow us to have no preparation days adding crackers, bread or green salads, as we like variety in our diets. We're grateful for all the diversity in food that our side of the world provides. Thanks to all of our small and big farmers, polluting inhumane corporate farms eventually will vanish. Thanks for teaching us that raising animals in a respectful manner is possible.

To be honest with you, I am more looking forward to how you can use the greenhouse next winter. I will be interested to see what you can do in the colder months. And please excuse my Australian ignorance if the answer is "Are you crazy? It is freezing then!" We don't get it that cold here.
@siege919

With several layers of protection it's possible! A lot of greens and other cold hardy stuff won't grow much in the winter, but will go crazy as soon as it gets warm enough. That alone puts you a month or 2 ahead!

Gina I don't know about your Fall and winters but there is nothing better than a concord grape plant and homemade jelly in the winter. Minnesotan's love their rhubarb too and it freezes well. We just wash it let it dry on the counter cut it into bit size pieces and freeze on a cookie sheet then transfer to a ziplock bag. We love pie, coffee cake or just make warm sauce. If you have extra strawberries you can make rhubarb/strawberry jam. Olivia would love it and it can be frozen too! Let me know I will send you some receipes. Hugs from southern Minnesota

It is rare for me to comment on the KZbins. But I wanted to thank you again for the detail videos on your greenhouse build. On your greenhouse delivery video, I mentioned you helped lead me to the manufacturer of an unassembled greenhouse on a property I purchased. I contacted Rimol Greenhouse Systems, and they were kind enough to provide me with assembly instructions for my Northpoint model. In a few weeks after some more follow-ups with Rimol and hopefully, some better weather here in Vermont, I will begin my build. Although my model is slightly different, your conscientious approach to the construction of your greenhouse will save me from some very large mistakes I would have inadvertent made having no experience with greenhouse assembly. Also want to say, whether its your greenhouse build or other activities, I really enjoy watching your family grow your homestead!

@LA Constructing fences, I was taught never to use concrete in a hole with either a wood or metal post as it guarantees water will collect around the post or pole. Then, you either have rust or rot that starts years earlier than if you use the dirt you have on hand from digging the hole (usually you'll need some other dirt if you do the tamping properly). Use the tamping end of the shale bar to tamp the dirt all around the base of the pole or fence post gradually up to 8 to 10 inches while monitoring the levels, and then fill to top with dirt. They post or pole will last a lot longer without moving and you'll never need to worry. The closer to the bottom of the hole, the better the tamping job you need to do so that it's set in place at the bottom. The rain & snow melt will then naturally drain away from the poles or fence posts and allow them to last a lot longer than if you used concrete or cement which will trap the water against them. There's plenty of fences still standing proudly that we built 55 years ago here in NJ. They'll also be a lot easier to remove if you ever want/need to replace them or remove them. And, you save the price of a bag of cement, etc. Wo0dy

Make a list of all the vegetables that you eat and try to plant/sow those first. Then, if there's space left in the greenhouse, you can add a few different varieties or fancy ones that you'd like to try. Check the PH and salinity of the soil, as these will determine what will and what won't grow in your area, regardless of zone.

Nasturtium flowers are edible and can be added to salads. And your polar greenhouse looks like it's coming along. Diligents and determination gets the job done. Perhaps some kind of face protector would help when out in the elements to save your complexion from getting exposed to the weather. I feel for you. Hey Al, have you ever thought about making some type of holder on the milking room wall to put the milk container in? Even a hook on the wall and put the bottle in the egg basket. I was holding my breath last milking season waiting for your bottle to fall off the bench. This year Gina has it on the floor and it seems awkward for her to look at the bottle this way. Just a thought. Thanks for all you do!
