I think a lot of people who consider buying the Honda insight are like me, just wanted something that’s great on gas that will take me on my commute to work and home efficiently, not a collectors car. So I definitely was not looking for or willing to spend that kind of money on a nice version of what I got. Got an 02 Grey 5mt, interior is mint, paint is bad but IMA works and came with grid charger clean tittle 166,000mi for $3000 in California where cars usually go for even more. Very happy with it. I completely understand your passion though, I’m just as passionate about the Saturn Ion Redline, another quirky, low production numbers, rare car and I’ve owned 4 of them and really the whole point of buying my insight was to keep the miles off of my Redline.

Mine is a shitbox about to get k24 swapped. It currently sits outside my house I’ve had it for about two months. A week ago a dude stopped by and offered 3k for it. After I told him that 1st and 2nd snycros are bad, it has 225k miles, and the battery no longer holds charge. He still wanted it and said he had two others. The dude I bought it from also had two of them. I paid 1200 for it essentially to use as a decent quality shell for a racecar. Minimal damage outside other than clear coat peel and yellowed headlights. No damage inside.

do people mod these cars by "inserting a k20 or k24" engine inside these insights in comparison to what people can do to a let's say CR-Z for example? i've yet to do research on these.

Thinking about buying one of these local in my area but I'm a bit skeptical of it. Price is listed at 3875 with this in the description "2001 Honda insight, great little fuel sipper that’s a blast to drive. 50+ mpg 5 speed manual hybrid! Has a grid charger and ima batteries have been recently charged. Drives really good! Has some bumps and bruises on body, but still presents well. Driver seat and carpet have wear and the dash is scratched from previous owners dog. Trip button doesn’t work so the oil change light cannot be reset. Please let me know if you have questions. No trades sorry."

Insight and used cars prices in general are pretty funny today. I got my 03 in 2015 with 60k miles for $4k when nobody wanted these. The seller I got mine from was having a difficult time selling it. How times have changed.

I'm talking with someone who has a Red 2001 CVT with 135k miles for sale, guy is asking $3500 but open to offers. Based on the silver one you showed at the end I think that seems pretty reasonable but on this one the battery needs work. Trying to find out more about its maintenance history now. Any chance I could send you the listing and get your thoughts?

I've owned one of these before. I'm looking for a low mileage 5 speed citrus yellow, like in the movie the day after tommorow. The citrus yellow cars are the rarest and worth the most. Best thing you can do is buy and keep the low mileage good condition cars. They will continue to go up in value, especially because they are economical futuristic hybrids. Stay away from CVTs if possible. If you are buying a good one to store and keep for a number of years, don't worry about the battery. It's going to go bad anyways. Slap a bumble bee battery in it right before you sell it.

I have a two owner silver 2000 Insight, 5spd, AC, 132k miles, new hybrid battery, newer clutch, one accident, paint is in great shape with small dings/dents. How much would you say it's worth now?
@gray25xt
@gray25xt Жыл бұрын
Assuming you have no transmission grinds, along with some warranty on the battery, and all clear coat is shiny, I think you'd get around $8000 for that car. No warranty on the IMA battery will lower that number. That said there are a ton of small details that can bring the price up or down....I've always gotten more for my cars because there are many little details I take care of that aren't repaired/featured on most Insights...things like new pedal covers, new decals, EGR cleaned, etc...

hey man I just was binge watching your videos learning new insight on the insight. Im 17 and looking for my first car and was wondering if this would be a good choice, though my parents are uneasy about it reason being the aluminum light body being unsafe, please let me know your thoughts, or anyone in the comments. thank you!

Hello. Glad to help. I wouldn't recommend a gen 1 Insight as a first car, there are too many issues. You really have to be willing to be your own mechanic and parts are difficult to find or impossible to locate. The gen 1 Insight is really a good spare car, I'd suggest getting something else as your primary transportation and then maybe an Insight as a hobby.
