Hi ya, Congratulations on your decision to open a shop, I wish you lots of luck! I also wanted to comment and say how refreshing it is to hear someone talk about wanting to be size inclusive for their customers. This will make the world of difference to their experience with you. I love Tilly patterns and their sizing has gotten better but there is still room for improvement as they only went up two sizes. If you would like some inspiration for patterns that are plus size inclusive I have lots of videos on my channel that talk about them. Thank you again for your part in removing stigma x
@Threadquarters
@Threadquarters 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is very very important to me to be as inclusive as I possibly can be. And yes, I agree that TATB patterns could do with extending their range even more. I meant to say that I am also thinking of using the Ellis skirt by Cashmerette for that class, which looks like a brilliant skirt, and the sizing it much better. So probably a combo of the two. And I will absolutely check out your channel, thanks so much for letting me know about it!

Oooo! I'm planning the Hilary top too, and I love your idea of lengthening it instead of the peplum. Also, I've made the Ness skirt (you might have seen it, can't remember!!), and I flipping love it and will be making another. The only thing I did differently was to change the order of construction on the back. I sewed the back pockets on first, then sewed the yoke to each back, and then sewed the centre back seam last. It just made it easier than having to pivot the yoke at the centre back. I might have changed the order on sewing the front pockets, but I can't remember now!! Lynne 😃

Oh, I can't wait to see your version of the Hilary! And I'm glad to hear another good review about the Ness. Good thinking about changing up the order, that does sound like a more sensible way of doing it!

Hi Susie. I think your plans look great - I’m sure your friend won’t mind you making the magnolia in that wonderful fabric! BTW I followed your lead and made myself the same top with the cyanotype printing! I’m pretty pleased with it but learnt a few things on the way. I used an old white cotton sheet for mine. I’d like to try again with white linen. This time I will use glass and not Perspex as I feel the Perspex was a bit light and the printing wasn’t as crisp as I would like. I think the glass being heavier would hold the botanicals down better. Mine also came out slightly darker than yours and I think I will shave one minute off my next attempt! Thanks for the inspiration! It was great fun. Diana

Oh thats fab that you gave the cyanotype printing a go! Interesting finds. The process is all part of the fun though isn't it - trial and error and seeing what works. Enjoy! x

I love the cyanotype top it is so beautiful. I have a Pfaff performance 5.2 and my button holes are pretty good. I ensure it trim my seam allowances at the collar stand and my waist bands before I do the button holes. If the fabric is light in my shirts I use tear away stabilizer underneath my button holes in the collar stand. I am going to o have to check out the Hillary top, I too love an neat detail to tops. The Ness shirt will be an a,axing class, it is the skirt I use the most. Teaching the detailed stitching will be so useful.

Hello! I have stumbled across your vlog this evening and what a find! You are so refreshing and I love your style, ethos, principles ... fab! I am going to plough through the comments too as I know that there’ll be some tips and inspiration amongst them. Meanwhile, and slightly off course, please can you tell me where you got your gorgeous earrings from? And... did you make the black top that you are wearing as I am looking for exactly that neckline!!! I am going to luuuve going through you vlog history and visit your online shop! Thank you, Jo 😊

Ahh thanks so much Jo, I'm so glad you came across my little channel!! I'm afraid I'm not going to be very helpful with answering your queries though. My earrings came from Accessorize, a few years ago, so most likely no longer available. And my top is from H&M. Although, I've had a couple of people mention the neckline of this top, so pattern designers need to get on that and make it a thing!!! So, sorry about those answers! BUT - thank you so much for your lovely comment - and I really hope you enjoy watching my old vlogs...don't dive too far back as I will cringe forever! lol x

I’m starting up a seeing schools on, mine is going to be primarily for kids, but if one or both parents want to learn, many seem to want to I’ll teach them too. Do you mind if I ask how you developed your curriculum? I gave some really good resources for teachers (sewing specific), and I have some. Ideas about starting out with good habits. I am really excited and happy to hear you are getting busy and now have a fabric shop. Would love to do that as well. Thanks for sharing!
@Threadquarters
@Threadquarters 3 жыл бұрын
Oh wonderful, congratulations! I think I just approach the development by working out what I would want to know, plus literally hands on...when they keep asking the same question, I know that that needs to be included. So just getting out there and gaining experience helps develop the curriculum!

Off topic Question; I bought some fabric and now I am trying to make a skirt for myself. It’s all going well but I want to add pockets to the 2 side seams of the skirt. So far I am thinking on either adding a *regular side pocket* or an *inseam side pocket* . I know how an inseam side pocket looks like but how does a regular side pocket look like? I am so confused, does it not even exist? As in is it just an inseam pocket that exists for side seams? Please help!
@Threadquarters
@Threadquarters 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joode. Gosh, I have to admit I was a bit confused about your question. In terms of pockets that sit within or partially within the side seam, I know of the classic inseam pocket (which you don't see when looking straight at your skirt/garment) or side-front slanted pockets (similar to pockets you see on jeans, with a slanted front, so you see them when looking at the front of the garment). The easiest to add on to a pattern is definitely the classic inseam. You can take any pattern piece (or even draft your own around your hand) and add it to the side seam of your skirt. There are many tutorials on KZbin to show you how to then sew up your side seam to accommodate the pocket. I really hope that helps! Happy sewing xxx

Isn’t it sad to have a milestone birthday during lockdown? I’m turning 60 in October and it’s going to be a stay at home celebration. I love your fabric choices and I wish I could wear the style of patterns you’re making but I need something that camouflages my - *ahem* - mature tummy and rather more generously sized derrière.😂😂 Your videos have inspired me to get back into making clothes after years of quilting though. Thank you!

The gathers are what put me off the Florence top. I just don't like sewing gathers, they never seen to work well whether I sew two rows of gathering stitches or sew with elastic. Sounds like such an easy thing to do but my gathers are still always odd lying and I get so frustrated with it. Shame as I love that top on you.
@Threadquarters
@Threadquarters 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, gathers are a tricky one for sure. I'm sure you do, but make sure you have your gathered section facing up, that way you can make sure that they are staying evenly spaced while sewing. I often stop (needle down), rearrange my gathers, and then sew on....it's a slow process, but worth it! I also don't sweat the little pleats that might happen...but that's a personal thing! lol
