With the recent terrorist activities in the northern Mozambique, the French are protecting their Total oil exploration interest in the area, hence the military presence

Not sure if that was military. They signed off with “over and out”, which is more akin to Smokey and the Bandit on their CB radios. The end of conversation word is “out”; “over” is used when an response is expected. Were you talking to someone in authority I wonder 🤔

Hello Matt and Amy. I love the both of you. You are my favorite sailing watching videos. This was my longest wait between episodes - it felt like it in any way. I was every worried about your safety and now very glad that you got away there in good time. Waiting on episode 118 - I started to watched your journey for episode 1 again. I watched 51 episodes in four days. Enjoy every moment. I follow many cruising boats - cruising couples and also families. I love every moment of it. I fell in love with the two of you after watching the first few videos some two and half years ago. You are about the same age as my two sons and my family knows that I called you my adopted children. I am from Cape Town South Africa and cant wait to watch Florence entering Cape Town. I will be there waiting on you. Nothing will stop me from doing that. I don t know how I will be able to find out. I don t want to miss that moment. Enjoy the next leg of your journey to Cape Town. I pray that the ocean and weather will provide you a safe and happy journey. Goodbye from your Cape Town Dad!!!

Good to have nice weather for the finish of this passage. You would have to be a very patient person to do this trip. I've sailed the coast of Alaska for over 25 years and I've seen both Bioluminescence AND the Aurora Borealis at the same time on night watch. It was pretty surreal when it happened. I figured it couldn't get any better than this and then a pod of Orca's came by... : ) Thanks for the video. The video quality is very good. Sail On!

We also looked at Moody's 33 mk2 and 346 (bit pricey) and the westerly discuss. We're in Cardiff so a bilge Keeler is essential. Good luck with your search 🤞

@19:30; Hey guys! Please forgive me if I may have mentioned this in the past, but I have found the best way to ‘Dampen’ a slatting main is to reeve a three strand poly line as a main sheet (Or some other stout - preferably man-made) line that is laid, not braided. The more stretch in the line, the better!! The stretch will act as a shock-absorber! Also, loosen off your boom-bang (AKA ‘Kicking strap’ in UK sailing terminology(?)) so as to allow the boom to lift and hopefully avoid the banging! Please take care to closely monitor your goose-neck fittings and all associated boom hardware for signs of fatigue - esp your main sheet tangs and fastenings... Hope this isn’t teaching Grandma to suck eggs! 😉👍 Still loving your channel after all these years. Keep up the good work and great formula!!! Cheers, from Sydney Mike

Good to see that you are allowed to go ashore in Mayotte, even if your initial reception wasn't exactly warm and fuzzy. The new camera provides wonderful images. I do wish it would be possible to fully capture the night sky you were describing, it must be spectacular. In most developed areas there is so much light pollution you don't see many stars. I enjoy sailing with you from my armchair. In 2001 I sailed aboard a catamaran down the Mozambique channel and we anchored off Juan de Nova island to shelter from a storm. The garrison there, a detachment of the of the French 2nd regiment of airborne marines based in Reunion, (aka "La Coloniale") was most hospitable and invited me to lunch and a tour of the island. You are usually allowed to stay 48 hours if you claim an emergency or need to do urgent repairs. If you are challenged within territorial waters you can claim innocent passage (passage inoffensif in French). There are anchorages to the north of Juan de Nova, but note that the spring tides are up to five metres there. If you are going down that way I recommend Chesterfield island, approx 16°21' S 43°56' E, which is little more than a sandbank full of birds with great snorkelling. The Barren Islands, off the coast of Maintirano, Madagascar, are also worth a visit.

don't worry, we ,frenchies, don't know how to speak on radio in english. We are not that formal in our land, and the operator probably just wanted to respond the same way Florence did, but didn't know how to do it properly. In this area, most boats are probably not speaking proper english anyway... Also, this area is regulated, but it's mainly due to foreign boat trying to sneak into the fish reserve, or spy on some military exercice. They should have contacted Florence when they approached the area, and not 15km into it... so they probably didn't notify the boat until too late... and then get angry about themself for their mistake...

It's worthwhile noting that the Îles Glorieuses have no local inhabitants, no port and only a French military presence. While most parts of these islands have been classified as nature reserves, they remain under French control, with access strictly restricted to the army and scientists. France has a military landing strip there and the islands are part of French operations against pirates.

Hey guys, great job, just noticed on this vid that your anchor swivel is connected directly to you anchor? You need a few links of chain in-between swivel and anchor. The swivel is not designed to take sideways force associated with freeing anchor from bottom, its just a swivel designed to take a lateral pulling force only and could shear quite easily in a storm or when freeing if pulled sideways. I'm no oracle, I made same mistake until someone pointed it out though compared to you guys I don't use my hook much.
