I recently watched this video and felt compelled to comment. It’s the best review I’ve seen! As a passionate home cook, he shares what matters to him and explains why those factors are significant. While my needs may differ, his insights have guided me in determining what’s important for my own cooking. I'm now better equipped to compare instant-read thermometers on my own. Thank you!

I have a Javelin pt12, it gives me a great instant read, mind you it isn’t back lit and the screen doesn’t rotate. I got a MEATER plus for Christmas so the Javelin’s main job will be to confirm the Meater. I got a wired Thermo Pro last year but I use it in the kitchen not outside as I don’t like running a wire under the lid of my Weber kettle! I didn’t think the video was boring! I would like to see your thoughts on the new wireless meat thermometers! Klaus

Your video had a lot of great information - not boring at all! Question - should we be calibrating our Thermapens if we get readings over 32 degrees in ice water? If yes, then how do you do that?
@Viewtoagrill2 жыл бұрын
If that is happening you should contact Thermoworks because they guarantee the calibration of the thermometer... you should not have to recalibrate it.
@kristinam27192 жыл бұрын
@@Viewtoagrill thank you - good to know. I’ll give them a call. But yours showed 43 degrees in the icy water when you tested all 3 thermometers at once, didn’t it?
@Viewtoagrill2 жыл бұрын
@@kristinam2719 it did, but that is not a controlled environment. Try boiling water and see what that says. ThermoWorks thermometers are tested in a lab using exact testing processes. If you think yours is off they would be able to tell you how to better test your thermometer.

Good info Johnny! I only have experienced with the thermoworks and got it specifically because everyone raved about how reliable it was and how the company really stands by their product. Been happy with mine Now that you mention that it has no magnet, it reminded me that I really need to pick up the case for it because I think that has magnets on it and can imagine how useful that feature is

Hello James. Thanks for watching. I do like the ice test for checking thermometers. With the tech today I don’t feel like consumers should ever have to calibrate their products… they should just work when you purchase them.

Magnets can be added to the Thermapen One. There is a silicone boot that has a magnet for it as an optional accessory. Or you can just glue a magnet on it. Magnets on thermometers aren't always a good thing. They are useful if you keep it on your grill table as you showed, your stove hood or your refrigerator. However if one stores their thermometer in a kitchen drawer, with knives and other utensils then a magnet is a bad idea. Great video, I watched the whole thing.
@Viewtoagrill2 жыл бұрын
Hello Lew. I agree, magnets are not always good. I have seen some folks stick the thermometer to the lid of the kettle and melt the thermometer. Thanks for watching.

Was not bored by the video. I found it informative. Wish I found something like this when I started looking for an thermometer, might not have bought a couple I bought off Amazon (those reviews are sometimes bought and very misinforming). Settled with the Thermapen, ended up buying a couple of the older models when they were discounting them to make way for the new version.

I have the ThermoPro TP-620 and disagree that it feels like a toy. Unlike the Thermopen and other thermometer it has an anti-slip grip and anti-fog display. You yourself dropped it on the concrete and it is still working! Also, I think it has the best and easiest to read display of ANY of these types of thermometers. The response time is also as advertised 2-3 seconds. I'm completely satisfied with mine.

Hello Bernard. It was a rugged thermometer for sure. I guess the bottom line is if you love it then go with it. I know a few people that use these on their channels and are completely satisfied with it. Take care and thanks for watching.

Nice review. I ended up buying the Inkbird thru your link. I do wish you would have came up with a way to test speed to temp though, even if it was using water or even a potato out of the microwave. It would have helped a lot. I had to due a search for other reviews so I could see if it was faster than the Acurite I currently use, which is pretty slow. It appears it is. I was a little hesitant to purchase the Inkbird due to it being so inexpensive but i'm not ready to spend the money at this time on the Thermometer one. You have a good channel and I really enjoy the reviews you do.
@Viewtoagrill3 жыл бұрын
Hello Brian. The InkBird is a nice thermometer for the price. I wish I could have done that but the conditions have to be the same and you need a controlled environment and repeatable conditions… I just could not think of a way to do that.

“Most boring video ever”? No way! Terrific information so thank you! I bought a LavaTools thermometer for my wife for Christmas which became important for me when I bought a smoker last month (August). It’s ok for general kitchen use, I guess, but is slower to respond (2-3 seconds) and seems to read a little low causing dryer results when I go by the thermometer rather than “feel”. I think I see a Thermapen in my future. BTW, I.P. stands for “ingress protection”, which makes sense in a techie sort of way. Also, funny you mention the shape of the Thermapen One in relation to it’s use. The shape is similar to my favorite pocket folding knife, the Spyderco Native 5, so it should seem very familiar to me and be easy to work with. Anyway, great review!

Wish I would have seen this review prior to buying. I've only had the TP620 about a week, however I am cooking on the Blackstone nightly. So far I am having mixed results. It does help me make a better steak/chicken, however I find myself watching and waiting for the final temp after inserting the thermometer. The claim is 2-3 seconds, but I believe it is more like 6 or 8. I know, still better than old school analog, however I lose confidence since I can watch it climb until it finally stops 6-8 seconds later, even longer. I do like the large digital reader and it works well until you get that angle where reflection voids it. Seems like an unreasonable complaint on the surface, but when you are trying to position thermometer and holding for 5 or more seconds over a 36" griddle, it can be annoying. I paid $29, so while I think it is par for the course at that price point, the normal price of $50 is not even close. So, while I probably will keep it, I imagine my frustration me to search for a better primary. So, save money where it makes sense; I am not sure this is it...

I'm sure you know by now but the IPX rating the first number 6 is the dust proof rating the second number 7 is low pressure jet of water. I'm not exactly sure what low pressure jet means I'm assuming you're a faucet versus a dishwasher. I've been threw several like most people Ive had the old school inkbird for the longest. All my other thermometers eventually they fell in the sink or rained on them or something and they got water inside then the light quit working then they started going on keep every single one except the inkbird. So I wholeheartedly agree the old school inkbird is a work horse. The Newer model is 10 dollars more it may be 10 better because the screen is bigger so on and so such that I've never had one so I can't say. I can wash the eatberg in hot soapy water and never fails let it dry stick it on the side of the grill because the magnet's strong enough and it's right there where I want every time I love it You can also calibrate it not that many thermometers what you do that, If you calibrate it to freezing and boiling at your exact sea level it stands the reason it would be very right on the medium or rare setting.

I bought the ink bird and loved it. I ended up giving it to my daughter because I’m always over there and get stuck somehow cooking and she does not have a good thermometer. I loved it. Especially for the recharging feature. I got on Amazon and seen that the thermo pro now had the recharging feature. PLUS it had a diff variation that had a port to also use a 2nd probe to put into my meat or into my grill so that I can watch the temp of my meat as it’s cooking. They had a 3rd variation that had a 3rd feature that came with another probe so I could monitor the meat and grill at the same time. So I’m in love with it also. I just got it not long ago so hopefully it stands up for the test of time. But the best feature for me on any probe is the recharging feature. I hate battery operated anything. Especially if u don’t use something very often the batteries get all corroded and junk. Hate it. And the way u can test ur thermometer to see if it’s reading correctly is to put it in a glass of ice water. It should always read 32 F. And on Amazon the prices for both of them were very similar. At the time I bought my ink bird it was on sale plus it had a 20% off coupon. Thanks for ur video. Not “THEE” most boring video in my opinion. Lol

OK, I got the Thermapen One. I read the entire manual. The reason the light won't turn on when you put the finger on it, is because you had it on a counter. If you read the manual, it says when you set it down it will try to preserve battery. As soon as you pick it up it will wake up. I personally love my ONE so far

@@Viewtoagrill are you doing this indoors?? Also, it doesn't come on if I pick the device up slowly and straight up. It has to detect movement.. As soon as it detects tilt, the light turns on right away. thermapen one is the best thermometer you can get... classic is maybe 2nd best. But that inkbird is the best value thermometer you can get, its not the best overall but its cheap, waterproof, has backlight (all those are qualities that thermapen classic lacks). And its 20-25€. I own both one & classic + that inkbird. and i think i would allmost put classic behind inkbird as 3rd best.
