This song is brilliant specifically in it's lyrical development. We love putting things into boxes thinking that we can fully grasp them, but it's like trying to hold the ocean in your fist. The world is a lot more grey than we like to think and that's scary. Thrice once again got me thinking.

Thrice, my all time FAVORITE BAND... These guys have never put out anything but GREATNESS. So glad their hiatus is done & they're back to making amazing new music together! I vow not to miss seeing them live this time around!
@thejokesonyou166 жыл бұрын
It’s so interesting to see this very real/human wrestling in musical form with huge concepts like faith in Thrice’s songs. Furthermore, it’s super cool to see Dustin’s personal internal journey/struggles and progression as he’s aged and learned more about life going back to the Artist in the Ambulance era of their catalog up to now. It’s so organic and I don’t see anyone being more honest coming from a Christian worldview in music today that is still going this strong and still breaking ground. It’s incredible. 💪
@stephenallen59396 жыл бұрын
V1K3N I wouldn't call Dustin a Christian artist at this point. He seems to have abandoned many fundamental tenants of scripture for a liberal type worldview. Just my thoughts.
@thejokesonyou166 жыл бұрын
stephen allen definitely! I didn’t call him a Christian artist though. He’s never claimed that. I think he has been operating historically in a Christian worldview in his writing though for sure. He’s been open about that and I talked with him about this before at a show in Pomona.
@alfianbanjaransari40966 жыл бұрын
V1K3N just curious, what did you guys talk about?
@thejokesonyou166 жыл бұрын
Alfian Banjaransari This was a couple years ago so don’t quote me, but I asked him about how he developed his voice and he we talked about that a bit. He told me he developed his voice naturally over time through practice. We also talked about Thrice discography over all and about certain song meanings and verses/books they are based on of several of songs on Beggars which was cool. I asked him how into prog bands he was and asked him if he was into bands like Oceansize whom I love and he said he never heard of them haha. He said he’s the least prog influenced of all the guys in Thrice which was interesting. He’s more into folk rock/singer-songwriters like father John misty/ Arcade Fire/etc. if I remember correctly. That’s all I can really remember honestly. Hope that answers your question.

I have grown with this band. Each album speaks to me at that point in my life. From Identity Crisis and Illusion of Safety to To Be Everywhere is to Be Nowhere. Idk what this song is about, but to me: it's about learning that you can't control everything, and your opinions aren't always 100% right. No matter how stubborn you are, change is a reality. And nothing is absolute. We have to learn to lean into the grey areas of life. Because black and white are too constricting to contain true happiness. We have to grow and evolve to be relevant, and remain that way.

Check out Vhiessu. Then work Backwards (Artist and the Ambulance and Illusion of Safety) and Forwards (Beggars, Major Minor, To Be Everyhwere is No Where). The albums that precede Vhiessu are very different, but they basically redefined an entire sub-genre of punk music.

Absolutely, I think this is a great song all around, chorus a tad on the poppy side; but it sounds like it could kinda fit on the previous record. I'm hoping to hear something super different and surprising and not more of the same, even though that would still be great. When Vheissu came out Image was super straight forward single and the rest of the record blew my mind, hoping for something similar happening haha.

I love how the Breckenridge brothers between bass and drums dominate the mix, it's beautiful. Overall the mix reminds me of the work done on Major/Minor. You can just tell this has Teppei's production work all over it, we haven't heard this raw sound in a long time. Hoping the rest of the album has that Major/Minor feel about it.
