The Bored Ape event used UV lights, not neon. They used UV in place of black lights for a glowing effect. If you had a pet lizard, you would specifically give them a UV light to bask in. Because _THAT IS MOSTLY THE KIND OF WAVELENGTH SUNLIGHT IS WHEN IT GETS TO EARTH._ The attendees were slowly blinded by having simulation sun flashed in their eyes the whole night. You'd think that would make only lights as bright as the sun really be the harmful issue, but you'd be wrong. It was a low-level light, physically triggering pupils to dilate to low light conditions, but also having direct sun stand-in quietly buzzing around from every angle. (This gets corrected, but I cannot stress enough how stupid this decision was.)

It’s literally the same as sunlight, uv-c, the most harmful version, except when the sun emits it, the atmosphere blocks most of it, not so with a uvc lamp. Extended exposure (depending on strength, distance etc., that could be anywhere from hours to minutes) can cloud your cornea because it basically sunburns your eyes, and can cause cataracts turning them white (and, y’know, blinding you) which is going to require surgery to fix, and can also contribute to skin cancer. Usually they’re used for disinfecting things in industry and hospitals, but no humans are exposed to it because it’s dangerous, but covid quackery led to a surge in sales to normal people, convinced that some uv c exposure would help prevent them getting sick, which, to an extent, sure, but not if you already inhaled the virus, and at a pretty significant cost. So a bunch more commercially available uvc lamps, not enough education on the matter, and they do function as a black light (and look cool) leads to a bunch of people getting injured. Good thing they have so much money stored in NFTs for settlements…wait, the NFT market did what? But how could that be!? Those computer generated monkey pics AREN’T the future of currency!? Oh noooo….

They made a whole room a tanning bed and didn't question it until AFTER people started having issues. I stg the people who make the most money in capitalism are the dumbest. No one tells them no. EVER. It reminds me of when I had a review from my boss to stop telling the sales team no when we can't do something. I refused. The entitlement sometimes I cannot believe.

My wife is a (regular) pastry chef, and seeing some of these videos is very weird, because it's both obvious that he's choosing the super horny shots, but also several of the things that look egregious (like the chocolate jiggle or some of the dough "fingering") are legitimately just the best (or only) ways to bake some things, so hearing it described without that context is hilarious

I got diagnosed with ADHD last year as a 25y old woman, and suddenly everything in my life made sense. So i relate with jarvis on tying a lot of things to adhd. I got diagnosed this summer when I was 35. Got dayum. I’ve been morning lil MayMay. Poor kid. This all came about bc of three concussions when I was a band director during the 18-19 school year. Silver lining I guess? My symptoms because relentless. I cried a lot the first half of this year. Crazy to think a lot of my depths of depression and anxiety were just me suffering through this ADHD. And damn all the scientists back in the 90’s studying the boys. We were completely overlooked. Ack. My life has been a lie. I left teaching March of 2022. Now in school for IT. Woooooo So yes, entire life is in uproar and it’s like all I think about. And I was dwelling on it for the months prior to the diagnosis when I kept finding all this research, accommodations and techniques that actually worked for me. I’m thinking, damn, do I have ADHD? Big yes. Good luck to you on your journey, and in your life. We’re in a tough spot these days, so I hope you’re doing ok.

Look...I am not into this even though I'm a straight woman. But look at the comments on these videos. The straight ladies love it. Do you think it's weird when hot girls pretend to work out in weird non work out poses on these same platforms? The pretend work out ladies that are just there because guys are into watching them. Nothing wrong with the fake work out squat ladies and nothing wrong with the fake baking hot guys. If you're a straight man, you probably don't get it. But if you look at the comment sections of these sexy baking guys, you will see the straight ladies are really into it. Just like the straight guys are into the fake workouts from the hot ladies doing squats. It's crazy to me that men still don't get that women like sexy stuff too. I'm not on social media other than KZbin anymore, but you know exactly what I'm talking about. Everyone is recommended women in yoga clothes. But somehow the idea that women like a traditionally attractive guy doing these things is so shocking and weird to you? Lol, gtfo. Women like hot dudes. Women like sex and sexy things.

30:31 i have insanely bad unmedicated adhd and this just altered my worldview. i almost never think about what i’m saying before i say it, i always kind of let my mouth do whatever and think about what i said afterwards (or not at all) and it hasn’t caused any problems since i was a kid but it’s still insane to hear again that my reality isn’t the norm

If you don't mind me asking, why aren't you on meds? Is it a conscious choice or maybe none of the meds you tried worked for you?

30:45 I'm so glad I'm hearing other people talk about this because I thought it was all in my head, like I should be able to unlearn it by myself but I can't. I also struggle to explain exactly what I mean to other people because of it.. It's really frustrating

The whole thing about the brain loading when trying to speak and knowing where I want to land, but not knowing how to get there, and/or that stuttering on the way, is too real. I have autism AND adhd, and constantly either speak too fast and end up all over the place, or literally stutter my words and speaking noticeably slower than any person should 💀 It’s hell. As Björk once said “Conversation and language for me is like trying to squeeze ocean through a drinking straw.”

The New York Times article on this is really funny. They interview an eye doctor, who flippantly said (of photokeratitis) “It’s excruciating pain. Like 10-out-of-10 pain. But no, they won’t go blind from this”

Owen Dennis created Infinity Train and Alex Hirsch created Gravity Falls, the humor is somewhat similar tho, most likely cuz they’re both part of the flapjack cartoon family tree

Here's the problem with "umm" and "uhhh" they're fine and no one generally cares up until you are on camera calling someone else out for their presence in a video/presentation. Like most people don't care up until they see another calling them out for it
