The app absolutely should as well! There is absolutely more they could be doing but they're so nonchalant about this. I've reported stuff like this multiple times and get the same generic response as you. Creators and the app itself should absolutely care as well! Love you Jaime!

Yuck, this made my skin crawl. Another issue with this stuff is people who are watching children in their bedrooms also use the children's cameras to watch them when they aren't streaming. People even sell access to other creeps that want to watch children. Baby monitor video feeds are also a hot commodity since parents don't realize this is a thing and don't block access to the web. You can be as serious or as funny as you want, you put out great content!

I'm so tired of people making the argument, "well you put yourself out there". What about that means you deserve abuse? I also leave my house to go out in public. That doesn't give anyone else the right to rob me, attack me, or bully me because I went outside. Victim shaming at it's worst.

I agree that “putting oneself out there” is not, in any fathomable way or stretch of the imagination, deserving of the insanely disgusting, foul, ignorant, hateful, pathetic, callous, and unnecessary comments, behavior, and absolute fuckery that far too many certain people in this world, especially nowadays, direct towards people, entirely. Now, let me clarify that the following does not justify, dismiss, or validate the foul-ass actions of those who engage in acting like a little “C you next Tuesday” *[excuse my “French” and hostility; I, quite simply, am growing increasingly frustrated, disheartened, and concerned with the ever-present and expanding attitude, behavior, mentality, way of “thinking,” and so on from people lately, in general],* whatsoever; there is, however, this shameful, ridiculous, unfair, and wrongful expectation that someone needs to consider, unfortunately when putting themselves online, which is that they are taking a chance with being on the receiving end of the foolish and out-of-touch, not to mention the wildly insensitive bullshit that a plethora of particular individuals seemingly feels the need, desire, they want to, or they “can’t help” but to exhibit and direct towards people, regardless of how unbelievably unacceptable and unfair that is, unfortunately. There is a vast difference between any of us walking around in the “real world,” so to speak, or our daily lives with the interactions we have with people and someone getting on the internet, which is an innately vulnerable thing to do, to begin with, and “putting themselves out there,” even more so on a live feed, for all of those people who can't or won't, and for whatever reason *[the possibilities are “endless”],* dare to act the way that they do towards people when online and safe behind the screens of their devices in real life to people’s faces/out and about; the internet and being behind a buffer or safety shield brings up an exuberant level of false-confidence within way too many people. None of that makes the crap that people like that say to others innocently participating in something that so many others do “okay,” “reasonable,” “rational,” validated,” or not incredibly wrong and unacceptable. This particular argument reminds me of the nonsensical justification that many people attempt to give for the harassment, hateful comments, degrading, demeaning, and all of the same types of things that people say to those who upload on the internet, in general, towards celebrities and how “it’s a part of the job” and how “they should expect it, deal with it, or get out of the business,” when in reality, what needs to happen is people learning how to be respectful, courteous, compassionate, empathetic, morally inclined, as well as decent human beings who understand and utilize common courtesy and human decency-The same goes for those who treat others like shit online. Is there, technically speaking, a level of expectancy for this type of bullshit from people? Yes. Does that make it okay? Fuck no, lol. There shouldn't be any expectation of this crap whatsoever. However, until we, as a society, figure out why on earth so many people think this is okay, feel the desire to act that way, and how we can turn things around, then this will unfortunately continue. You wouldn't believe the number of people that I have come across and interacted with who genuinely, for the life of them, could not understand or identify how this insanely disrespectful, unnecessary, and callous remark that they said about someone specific was just that-disrespectful, unnecessary, and insensitive. Not to mention that they will argue, and with the most arrogant, ignorant, intellectually struggling, and holier than thou attitude, that the thing that they said is not any of those things and that they are merely “sharing their opinion,” lol. There is a noticeable decrease in people acquiring basic/fundamental morals and values, kind of like, “if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all” type of sentiments. These issues are so much more complicated, deep, and complex than the immediate disgraceful actions and comments they make. Personally, when it comes to a solution, and I have been reflecting on this general thing for a while now, I have no idea where even to start.
@anni1348
@anni1348 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. And what would be the solution? Never enter the internet? That's dumb and not possible today, the internet is a extremely big and import part of our society. That's like saying you're supposed to lock yourself up at home and never leave your house, when you don't want to get robbed, attacked, r*ped, sexually harassed etc. This argument is just ridiculous and like you said taking the responsibility away from the one who's the actual problem, the criminal/pedophiles on the internet who made the conscious decision to target children, and it gives the responsibility to the victim instead. Victimblaming at its best/worst.

As a parent of an almost teenager this was a great way to open the conversation with her about internet safety and bullying. She was upset because I won’t allow her to download apps on her cell phone ( which she has because it is used as a medical device). I had tried to explain over and over again how it is not safe and people take advantage of kids her age all the time. I let her watch this video and it was eye opening for her. We were able to have a good conversation.

Also YES I did check her KZbin to see what she was watching but the chat feature was off in a weird "hidden" place and since I didnt know it existed....I didn't know to go digging for it. (I've LOVED the comedy and entertainment you bring on your channel for years, but now I respect the heck out of you too.) It is a very fine line between "inappropriate" and "dangerous" and there is ZERO rationalization for why children should ever even be in these situations in the 1st place. Adults should be adulting with other adults, period. Why aren't kids able to just BE kids anymore? Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this video, Jaime! 💜💜

I am also a mom to kiddos in the “TikTok” age range and cannot allow them to use the app. It’s just too dangerous. My 11 yr old son uses Discord for video games and I already have to take that away or do something drastic as he has been talking about his “friend” a 16 yr old boy who lives in Russia (that’s the story, anyway) who is constantly discussing his sexuality. With my 11 yr old son My son came to me literally in tears worrying that if he turned out to have some bizarre sexuality or kink that I would kick him out and never speak to him again Because the kids on his video game for kids constantly say these kinds of things. These video games and apps are trash. They’re all total trash My son said he was having nightmares about this for months but was too afraid to ask me. And I’ve had this talk with him back during sex Ed. I’ve told him repeatedly that I would love him no matter what and been so very open and loving to him I would never in a million years turn him out or cut off contact with him. There is nothing he could do or be that would make me stop loving and supporting him But he’s just a little kid. These other people terrified him People talking about being “Furries” To little kids. On a game for little kids. It’s sick

I hate the “it’s their parents responsibility”. Let’s advocate for kids who don’t have anybody to advocate for them! On top of that kids become adults in our communities, do you want all these traumatize kids walking around out there being someone you have to deal with? Whether you look at it as wanting to protect them or even just wanting to be selfish about it, there are so many reasons why we should care. Thank you for this video I had no idea.

I have to share my story! This happened to me and my cousin back in the 2000s when chat rooms where a thing. My cousin started chatting with a guy from prison, he had access to the internet even before smart phones. He started stalking and harassing her from prison. When her mom intervened, he found my address and phone number ( I don't know how) and began stalking me. We were 14!!!!! This happened before acess to this stuff was mainstream man, it took me years to realise how scary and damaging that was. As a kid, I didn't understand how harmful and dangerous it was. Thank God I had the soundness of mind to phone the police. You know, this almost made me cry, actually. As a Millenial, I remember having a computer in our house around 12/13 years old. Even back then, it was kind of crazy how technology moved at such a rapid pace. There weren't any safegaurds and my parents were from an entirely different generation, so it was just kind of like "figure this new digital community out yourself." I had no idea what the potential dangers were. I was allowed to have Facebook as a teenager which, looking back, was NOT safe. Then instagram and Twitter came out and by then I was 21 (I think). I wasn't aware of the actual audience (the world): it felt like I was just posting from my parent's house. The gravity and potential danger never even crossed my mind. Now, as an adult, I look back and think, "wow. I really didn't have a clue." Now we have tons of dating apps, Snapchat, and TikTok and kids and teens just don't understand. It IS like a game. Their brains aren't fully developed yet. And what's so sad is that there's so much bullying and harassment that DOESN'T get reported. Kids don't know what to do in these situations. I really hope this kind of thing gets more traction. We need companies to wake up to this because it's high time someone took a stand. If I could go back and rescue that little boy I once was to erase some terrible situations, I would. And we have the power to do that for other kids. Thank you, Jaime.

Now as an adult, I'm working on deleting my Snapchat, Facebook, (this is part of my 2022 goals) and even down the road I might get rid of my Instagram. Technology has taken over our lives and it makes me nervous about how I'm going to protect my own children from the internet world. It's scary.

Hey Jaime! Thank you for bringing this up. You're not being "judgy", you're being discerning. For the last 10 years or so, being "judging" has been called bad, but the undeniable fact is, it is healthy to judge. Healthy people do that all the time; "is this right, is this not right?" "Is this safe, is this not safe?" "Is this healthy, is this not healthy?" We are SUPPOSED to judge!!! And it's only unhealthy, manipulative people who say judging is bad. What IS wrong is condemnation. i.e. "you did something wrong, so you can never be forgiven or make it right." THAT attitude is what is wrong. So you making a judgment call on the unsafe, unhealthy practices of TT is spot on. Keep up the good work!

This is honestly more terrifying then what I went through as a child myself. To me this opens more chances for pedos to find children. When I was 12, I was exchanging emails with someone I met in a game who said he was about my age. After some weird things, asking where I lived and personal information, there was a search on him and found he was a man in his 40s in another state. That was in the 2000s, the fact they can live chat or live stream makes a mother instinct kick in. I don't have children but I would be terrified of this situation. You're not crazy in this Jaime.

Yes when I was early into my teens.. maybe 13.. might've even been 12.. I had made a friend in a chat room and talked a lot with this person.. then they started asking more personal questions and said their family was going to be coming to the state I live and wanted to see me.. yes I told what state I lived in but I always lied and said a big city an hour from me.. but anyways.. then one day I gave them one of the house phone numbers(the line that was for internet that no one used) and they called to talk to me and I expected to hear a young voice and it was a VERY deep man's voice that had to at least be in his 40s or later.. it really frightened me and I knew instantly this person was lying.. I was so scared afterwards that I thought he would somehow be able to track me down and I'd be kidnapped.. and I might have been if I had given out more information.. or accurate location.. so I really keep a close eye on my kids things.. and luckily they actually come to me and tell me pretty much everything.. so if something is sketchy or inappropriate or even if it's someone they see making fun of other people or saying things they probably shouldn't.. my kids show and tell me and we have a dialogue about it.. I just got they will always continue to do this, knowing I have their best interest in mind and they can freely ask me anything or tell me anything without judgment and will get an honest and age appropriate answer..

I’m 54 and there was nothing about strangers, but there was stuff about drinking and drugs. As kids we could go where we wanted as long as we weren’t out causing trouble. Predators have been around forever they just don’t even have to leave their homes to get to kids. This was a big topic/problem when chat rooms on aol started forming, and it’s only gotten worse from there. As a parent all we can do is instill the knowledge kids need to make good choices, but it’s up to the kids whether they stick to the rules or not. With 5 yo kids with their own laptops and cell phones they have 24 hour access. Parents can’t hover over their kids 24 hours a day. I know there’s parental control on these things but what if Johnny down the road doesn’t have them on his phone, then that’s where they go. It’s a f’d up situation and I’m glad my youngest is 20, and both kids are going out with people from town that we know.

Even if alot of these conversations are harmless the problem is that some of them are not and you have no way of stopping kids from seeing or hearing something inappropriate. Or then emulating the behaivor. Yes parents should be keeping their kids safe but even the most protective parents can't keep their children from this at all times..if your kid has any friends at school with a phone then they can go on tik tok without you knowing or monitoring their experience. Tiktok defiantly has a moral obligation to protect their underage users. This is outragous!!

Man, Jaime. As a mother of two teens - thank you for this. Being a parent in the age of social media is an entirely new animal that is super frustrating trying to strike a healthy balance. I was born in 1980 (yikes) and was raised with old fashioned values - and I always believed that I would raise my own kids by the same values. That being said, those very same set of old fashioned values sounds really great - but at the same time, it can make it difficult for kids to figure out how they can incorporate themselves into a society from which they were kept from assimilating to. I used to think that going against it's grain was a good and positive thing to do - and while it sounds really good on paper - I have found that in my 17 years of parenting so far - that it is actually a bit disadvantageous to raise a kid who will eventually and ultimately have to figure out how he's supposed to incorporate himself into a society, that he was raised to be steered away from. My husband and I feel that it's our job as parents to help our kids prepare for all the things that are out there in the real world - good, bad and indifferent. Especially while we are still the most influential people in their lives - we can help them decipher between what is right from wrong, what is good from bad - and basically how they can make the best judgment calls that they can. Once they are adults, they will be navigating this world without our constant and perpetual guidance. My obligation to my kids as their mother is to prepare them the best that I possibly can for the world that they will one day be sent out into, so that they will be equipped with all the right tools in their arsenal to make the best decisions for their journey as adults. You are amazing - I love and appreciate you so much for having the courage to call this out - because you are SO right - it's incredibly dangerous and we as parents have to be as informed as possible so that we can battle this in the best ways possible. Lord help us.

I’m generally against all “live” anything on the internet. It’s not appropriate. In real life, when we go see something LIVE, whether it be music, or theatre or sports or whatever, there’s tons of planning, preparations and above all else safety and security measures in place. When people create “content” whether on YT or TikTok or even just post random IG pics, there’s a huge distance of time and space from where you are when you’re creating it vs where you are and what you’re doing when it’s posted. People are WAY too comfortable posting exactly where they are and what they’re doing and what they’re wearing and how easy wherever they are is to get into online. It’s never sat right with me, even for adults. Like we’re really out here FaceTiming THE WORLD? I don’t let people that have known me for years FaceTime me without first doing my hair and makeup and making sure my living space is clean. It all seems kinda nuts, frankly. Like people have no sense of self preservation or metric of social intimacy.

The fact that there was a response to your report in 5 seconds makes me think it's a program or bot that is analyzing and responding automatically. Not to mention the paragraph they responded with would take longer than 5 seconds to type. I'm willing to bet that the AI detection/filters they use to identify guideline-breaking content is connected to whatever complaint service they have in place, and uses some sort of scoring system to determine what might require actual human interference. For reference, I'm a web developer and I've been in the programming field for over 15 years. So my take on what's happening is based on the bits and pieces of information I've collected on how these types of things work. I 100% agree with you, this is not okay. Thank you for making this video, and I hope more people follow your lead on bringing this issue to light! Technology and AI is only as good as humans can make it. While we are not always perfect, the technology to protect children on these platforms *is* out there, and these money-hungry companies can absolutely spare the resources to do better.

Exactly! Kids don't understand just how young they are. I remember being 11, 13, 15, etc, and I did not think I was a child. My family's genes mature early and I was mistaken for being in high school when I was in 6th grade and in college when I was in middle school, etc. So a lot of older guys approached me. Some creeped me out because they were way older, but some I thought were so cool because they were high school or college. Bad things happened because my emotions and mentality did not match my physical appearance and I didn't know what could happen until it was too late. On the flip side, I worked at my Grandpa's motel when I was 13-15 and one Spring Break I was there hanging out with my cousin who was my age and similarly did not look her age when a couple of guys checked in then ran into us later on our way back from the convenience store and started chatting with us. When one asked how old we were and I said 14 they yeeted themselves out of the conversation so fast that the 14 year old in me is still a little disappointed to this day. The grown up woman in me is overjoyed that they were decent. But I remember not going out and looking for dudes, not even knowing what a "hook up" entailed, but I just liked talking to people because people are interesting and I as a child didn't see the dangers or how it could be problematic. I don't like talking to people anymore. A child isn't going to understand why they shouldn't be going into these lives with these adults (in general, I mean, I'm sure there are some who now understand very well, sadly) because it's fun to talk to people and cool for someone older to pay attention to you. Gah, I don't know why I'm rambling so much or if anything is making sense, but yes! Something needs to be done to protect children because a lot of the time they don't even know they need to be protected until it's too late.

Agree 100% Jaime. As a mom it’s terrifying what goes on. And not every child has a parent that actively looks out for their safety, or that actively speaks to them about potential dangers on social media/the Internet. There are so many kids who do not have parents who actively participate in their lives, even when they live in the same household. Not trying to mom shame or dad shame, but it’s just the facts that there’s a ton of kids that don’t have that. And the potential of even very young kids being exposed to some of these behaviors should concern everyone with a conscience.

Parents CAN monitor everything on their kids’ phones and computers. I know, because I do, and have done it, for years. There are many, many programs that are specifically for monitoring, blocking, notifying, and controlling everything a person does and sees. Parents also have the ability to disconnect their children from electronics, if they want to. Are there parents who don’t care? Absolutely. But this app is not American owned or operated. It would be responsibility of Apple or Google or any of the app download sites to take the app off their sites and not give anyone access until safeguards ARE put in place. Given that they are profiting off the app as well, that won’t happen.

Totally agree its good that they can understand how to have a conversation with an adult and be comfortable but that was just uncomfortable to watch. Adults still need to be seen as somewhat mature around kids and that man was literally trying to make the child feel sorry for him and her be the voice of reason?? Something that many predators use to manipulate. It really scares me that alot of people dont want to talk about this side of social media but this comment section has given me abit more hope in society and the fact that it might not be me just feeling like I'm going mad or over reacting.

This world can be really gross and weird and sad sometimes. Thank you for bringing attention to this. The minute 16 year olds started getting fame and fortune from shaking their butts and moving their hips to a beat for TikToks I knew the app was sketchy and careless about what content they allow and who they allow to create.

I completely agree... In a sense. While I do think 9 years old is too young to be out exploring these apps on their own, I also think that totally trying to shield children from what is out there isn't the answer either. As children get older and begin to be able to explore the world separate from a parents influence (even if that's secretly at a friends house or under the covers at night after everyone is asleep) they should have the tools to help identify when something is wrong or off and why that is so. I'm not advocating for showing kids disturbing things to "prepare them" but maybe exploring some of these apps with an trusted adult at a younger age could foster conversations about what is going on and why it is wrong. Maybe I'm cynical but I just don't see these apps doing much to try to protect kids and if they aren't protected shouldn't they be prepared?

Jaime, you have been a favorite of mine for a while now because you remind me of how my friends and I are around each other. This video solidifies that you are a genuine person, full of humor that is so relatable AND point out the obvious flaws. I know my nephew accidentally went live on Tik Tok one day while doing homework. I hopped on to see what he was doing- and I had to text him to make him realize he pressed something! He’s 11. And people were already watching that I didn’t know. Now, he was doing homework and just talking to himself. But it freaked me out! I told him just to watch it because people are mean. He has a good enough understanding that strangers words don’t matter. But, with mental health where it’s at- this is the LAST avenue bullies need. Thank you for bringing this up. It really is a brave thing to use your platform for!!!! We need to protect our youth. 15 years ago high school sucked…. And I didn’t have all of this social stuff around me. I pray for these people taking advantage of young people.

No. I'm glad you're discussing this. It needs to be discussed. TikTok honestly scares me with things like this because of how lax it is. It would be great if we lived in a wonderful world where people could be trusted with things life that, but we all know that's not the case and this it's just... The sheer potential of things that could go wrong is horrifying. Also editing to add jfc, the video below this one was about a sheriff finding a missing sixteen year old girl in a hotel room with an adult man she met online and if that's not screaming the point here idk what is.

It’s a dumpster fire, for sure. I was internet “friends” with a woman and I was in her live one night. I knew she had issues but her behavior freaked me all the way out. She was literally doing the high as a kite head drop, eyes crossed and almost closed. She did that several times. Ultimately I blocked her but I see things like that all the time. Thank you talking about this!

What the nay-sayers don’t understand is that even when nothing explicitly inappropriate is happening in these interactions between adults and children, it still isn’t right and it has the potential to evolve into something even more sinister. What if that guy who was dumping his marital issues on his viewers uses that sympathy to his advantage to prey on these children? TikTok predators are certainly not unheard of, so it certainly isn’t a stretch. Much of my childhood and teenage years were ruined at the hands of online predators, and my heart breaks for these children who will undoubtedly be exposed to the same horrific things I was. It should not be this fucking easy for adults who may have ulterior motives to get in contact with vulnerable children.

Jaime this is important and I’m glad you made this video. I’ve never been a big tiktok fan because I literally always have a kid over my shoulder and when first joining, it doesn’t seem to have your algorithm pegged yet so it shows everything. BTW I’m sure someone else has told you but there is a lawsuit pending from an actual moderator claiming that her and thousands of other moderators were paid to watch hours and hours of disturbing videos and it has effected their mental health. I mean, it’s nowhere near a solution to this problem but I hope it lands in the favor of the moderators and there’s no “out of court settlement”🙄(read: money to shut them up. So damn sick of money and power totally ruling who gets punished and who is left off the hook) If something positive does come from it, it’s great groundwork for future lawsuits and moderation

This makes me super scared. Tik tok is absolutely accountable for this and need to do something immediately. My son is 13 and I won't allow him to have a tik tok, but there's other parents who do and he thinks I'm being irrational, but I know I'm not. And this just proves my point. He doesn't understand I'm trying to keep him safe from exploitation and predators. I'm one of those moms who regularly check his phone to see what he's doing. He has his privacy and I trust him, it's the grown adults trying to get close to children that I dont trust. He hasn't even went through puberty yet and still plays with action figures, and I just want him to be able to enjoy his childhood before he grows up too soon. There needs to be safeguards in place and I absolutely agree.

Sometimes I find I'll be scrollling through TikTok and I'll get a random video or a random live stream that has NOTHING to do with content I typically watch. A lot of the time, the weird videos I get also don't have a ton of likes or viewers watching a live. So if I can get these videos just casually scrolling my FYP, I'm sure a lot of younger people are coming across these videos and I've seen some weird ones. I remember coming across a livestream where someone was preforming exorcisms on random people in a crowd.
