Makes sense because the windows are tinted, sunlight reflects on the outside more than the inside. It's just part of that officer's procedure. It's not required in that state, which is why the stop just went on ahead. They deal with people all day and everyday, reducing risks is fine. Sure he went on about it for a while, but they moved on and ended without any drama. That whole interaction really wasn't that bad.

My senior year, the cops took a drug dog around the parking lot while we were in class. The dog hit on an old jeep with the top off. It belonged to my friend's dad. His dad's pistol was still in the glove box. This was 2005. He, and the two others that rode with him that morning were all arrested at school, straight out of class. Most of us were not 18 yet. It was just after football season ended and they arrested the top running back in the state and the kicker. The running back was sent to TX to live with his mom and finish high school there. The kicker was sent to western KY to live his mom until graduating. And my cousin was sent to Knoxville to live with his dad until graduation. Literally ran out of the county over and old rusty .38 and an honest mistake.

The very first encounter is a perfect example of why people don't like cops. Why did the male officer have to come up to them with immediate confrontation in his voice & demeaner? Cops are trained to deescalate not escalate. They should train cops to check their ego at the station before they clock on duty. Enter a scene with respect & try to solve the problem. Don't stick your chest out & immediately try assert your authority in an aggressive way. If you come at people peacefully & with respect things will almost always go better than you expect.

Once got pulled over by a cop that swore I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt. When he walked up he swore I put it on after he pulled me over and said he had it on camera. I told him that would be something for a camera to edit itself on its own. This was back in 2010. He eventually gave up and said “there was a light so my camera didn’t get it”. Another time a cop pulled me over and swore he smelt weed and wanted to search my car. I politely told him I’ve never smoked nor will I ever. He kept insisting and I just kept telling him there absolutely on way he smells it because I’ve never smoked. I wasn’t worried at all, until I got home and cleaned my car and realized one of my friends must of dropped a huge bag of weed in my backseat. I was so damn angry but I had no clue who it could have been. Good thing he let it go 😅

The real issue is good and bad policing. Good policing by good officers doesn’t go like that. The first guy had to literally educate them on the spot, which should have been done at the academy. They don’t train them properly, or for long enough. And sheriffs departments are the absolute worst when ut comes to poor training. And hiring for that matter. Lots of PD cops that get in trouble just go to some county force because they will take anyone.

The school incident shows two real and distinct problems. One is that the police should have come with a search and arrest warrant if the crime occurred the day before. I understand that the principal was doing what the school policy directs him to do, but you have to wonder if this student brought a firearm onto school property. The second is that in this day and age I might be more concerned about another mass school shooting rather than a school policy violation. Especially when it is known that the boy is a suspect in a recent shooting. Also, I didn't see any metal detectors or any method in place to check for weapons on students entering the school.
