Major A40 League notes: 1. First player / first turn draws (big advantage) 2. No mulligans unless All Land or All Spells (no penalty card if this happens) 3. Fast mana and draw cards are heavily restricted, hence 1 Sol Ring in each deck (most popular choice) 4. Card max by rarity (all cards): 3 of each rares and 6 of each uncommon 5. Card max by specific card (includes commons, uncommons, and rares): 1 per Group, 1 per deck, or 3 per deck (e.g. Lightning Bolt is restricted to 3 like a rare) 6. No Mind Twist or Ante cards 7. No oracle text. Most misprints are utilized (e.g. Orcish Artillery is 1R) and a few are errata so the card can function (e.g. REB 'instant' to 'interrupt') 8. Alpha rulebook rules. Alpha rule Document adds card clarification.

I remember in 93/94, a Black Lotus being traded for three Royal Assassins, a Lord of the Pitt, and a few Dark Rituals… so yeah, I get what you’re saying about the assassins and the shivans. 😂

Thank you for posting this series, Timmy! It appears that the player on the right has mismatched card sleeves. I realize that these matches are casual, but that seems too casual. I can't help but think a player would get used to the card distribution for the mismatched sleeves. Is this something you see often?

Never at a tournament (it's up to the TO), but in casual games, if both players are fine with it.. The player on the right only plays Alpha and hardly ever plays, he's more a collector.

That was frustrating to watch. Control Magic dominated and RB dude kept getting two-for-one’d, though I’m not sure how I would’ve handled that either. The forgotten Sengir counter... ~$100,000.00 decks I could only ever dream of having... Beautiful decks and cards.

The colour pie was really divided, in the sense that certain colours just didn't have answers to certain threats, right? Like in this case Red and Black are not your go to colours when it comes to Enchantment removal. The best thing you can do is play an Orb or blow up the board with a Disk, not ideal... But I think Niels (the BR player) knows this and kinda accepted his fate and just wanted to cast Shivan Dragons :D

Coolass deck a lot like my favorite black decks I played at the time. Definitely add 4 hymn to tourach, especially with the 4 racks. I don’t know how you could pull that all off for $60 though, if that’s what you meant. No better time to start than at 14 I say! You might like to check out the budget format on MTGO called Penny Dreadful.

Card mArket demonic 16pound and I been playing since last December my teacher play mono black and the deck and so forth he has 68 black lotus and 60 mox pearl he gi ring me 1 black lotus and 1 mox pearl for when I go to defend my regional title in London this year last time I played a 100 pound mono blue aggro deck

Man, it's nice to see people playing in person again. I'm ready for all the oppressive government overreach to be behind us. Alpha 40 is....it's weird man. On one hand, I love seeing all these awesome old cards. On the other, this is probably enough money on the table to pay off my house and that's hard for me to fathom.

I would just ignore the prices when looking at these matches. If you have the cards its def a fun format to play, but if you haven’t I wouldn’t buy into it 🤷‍♂️ I borrowed a deck for this event just to try it out. Btw it’s nice to see cards like Giant Spider and Forcefield having a place here.
