This helps me so much. I struggle with depression and anxiety, and I've struggled with it for my entire life. I'm 13 and I went to my first audition the other day and today is when callbacks are being hosted, and I always doubt myself. I've been wanting to act ever since I was about five, and last year I was supposed to be in a play but I decided not to audition at the last minute. I didn't even try. All because I thought I couldn't do it. Because I thought I wasn't good enough. This happens a lot. I stopped drawing because I wasn't good. I stopped playing my ukulele for a while. I stopped doing everything I loved because I didn't have the motovation. Your videos help me find the motivation to act, and I even picked up my uke a few months ago. It helped me do good at the audition. I interacted (lol, puns) with the casting director and made jokes with her, developed a conversation, and she seemed to like me. I wasn't awkward when I was saying lines and doing scenes. I used my whole body to act and not just my voice, and it worked out super well! Your advice is super good and it's helping me out so much, and I wanna say thanks for making this video. I was doubting myself yesterday because I was wondering if I really did as good as I thought I did, but this video restored my confidence. Acting is helping with my deppresion, I actually felt joy for the first time in a while. I haven't felt that much happiness in about two years. Thank you. Just thank you.

I was in a position similar to you struggling with depression giving up all the things I loved but I somehow managed to find hope out of no where I decided to go to the gym and then I got back into being an actor, I feel hope is the key to depression.

+TipsOnActing I have self doubt regularly. :-) Quitting is not an option though, I love acting so much that I would do it for free, and have. Obviously we all want to be paid actors (most of us anyway) but there is no such thing as failing when you persevere in what you love. Thank you Amy!

This is great advise. This business can be hard and sometimes separating the art from the industry can be next to impossible. The only thing that is certain is that if you quit you're never going to realize your full potential. Great message.

I just recently started to believe in myself and have felt guilty about playing it safe for so long. Your videos are always inspirational, and this one was quite endearing and has helped give me a good boost. I'm a full time student, close to getting my BA (for a safe, stable career) but I keep gravitating back to acting. Thanks for your upbeat videos. :)

I find this video very inspiring because I have that moment literally every day, but no one to talk to about it. It is really difficult when you aren't American and so your family has many doubts about a "foreigner like me" will never make it here. On a happier note, since signing up in your webinar that is on tomorrow, I have been watching your videos NON-STOP and taking notes like a mad man because I am desperate to kick-start my acting career. Your passionate way of explaining things to your audience and your genuineness really comes off through the screen. Thank you for that! Anyway, I am so happy you could do it and that you killed the sprint on the stair case. I know we never met, nor have you ever coached me or spoken to be, but I am proud of you Mrs. Berman! And again, thank you for being so awesome!

Amy I just have to say that you are so thoughtful to think of all of us out here trying to make it in this crazy competitive business. You are so awesome to share your knowledge for Free! Not everyone would try to help out the starving actor by sharing what they know for nothing but happy with hearing a success story. You have the heart to share what you know. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything you are doing.... Keep it up!

I am a formidable actor singer, performer and this moment in this time, really almost brought a tear to my eye. I dont really suffer from this per say, although i may have a moment of self doubt, i truly rise to the occasion. I am a go getter, sometimes i just feel as though i try so hard and its all for nothing, but then i realize the bigger picture. I go back to the basics of why i wanted to be in this business and i rise above. some minds, bodies and souls don't react or think the same, so this is why This video touched me harder than ever in this moment at this time. I have been hearing a lot of this from my friends, family and colleagues in the business and it makes me sad. I try my hardest to encourage and uplift because that is MY TRUTH. i am a true believer that this business can rip you apart and break you down, but if you really want it, you stick to it like glue..........................Thanks for this moment

I'm 22 and I am from the Philippines. I've always wanted to become an actress ever since I existed in this world. I have a degree in communication coz I thought that earning this career will get me to the world I've always wanted. Graduating from college, I was so frustrated to realize that jobs on TV are not that easy as I expected. Competition is very tough and here in my country, if you want to be discovered immediately, having a beautiful face is your number one necessity to stardom. Worse is, Philippines was colonized by Western countries like USA and SPAIN so the mainstream is looking for half-blooded Filipinos who are Western looking. Asian beauty is also a bit of a trend because Korean and Japanese dramas are famous here so if you're someone who has slanted eyes and has a white complexion, if you look Chinese/Japanese or Korean, you will get more chances of getting discovered. Although, there are still successful talented actors who are not handsome and pretty, most of them are veterans and pioneers, our media of today's generation continue to change as the years go by and they always look for what's trendy which negatively affects the quality of shows they produce because they only focus on beauty not REAL TALENT. Those never-ending stories didn't stop me from getting what I want. I studied, observed and asked myself several times if I will still pursue it or not and my answer is YES. Thanks to my habit of reading American blogs. They taught me to think outside the box that following the standards of my country, the things I see in my culture and in my society can be improved because that is what ART is all about. ACTING IS ART and in ART, we can break the rules. I continued researching. I watched movies and attend some acting workshops. I took advantage of my voice and communication skills. I tried three full-time jobs, saved money and enrolled in a prestigious theatre company here in my country. My study there was priceless. The experience was really awesome that I got to meet TRUE ARTISTS and NOT COMMERCIAL ARTISTS. They changed the way I think about acting. They taught me about the huge difference between acting on TV, film, and theatre. Most of us fall in this same misconception that acting will make us FAMOUS. If you really like to pursue it, you have to think twice and you really have to study the craft over and over again. It is not about looking beautiful or getting all the attention of the fans. All of us our unique in our own ways and we have "this" something inside that we have to discover which can help us become true ARTISTS...
