The river is absolutely loaded with Smallmouth. I bet you're right. Largemouth dominate the lakes eventually.

Maine and NH have some of the most beautiful places to fish… so quiet and peaceful. I’ve been having trouble catching Smallmouth in some of the lakes / ponds where I normally catch them here too. My upcoming August Tourney is in a pond that we used to only catch Smallies but last two times I only caught Largies. You got some beauty Largemouth though so it was still a good day but with all those boulders…where are those Smallies ? Good job on the temporary fix but might be time for a new net. Loons and Eagles….how can you beat that ?

It's good to know that I'm not alone in my lack of smallmouth. It has me baffled. This pond had deep areas with deep boulders. I can usually find a smallie on the rocks. Not today. I even dropped the tiny child down. Usually they can't resist that. The net.... I ordered one. Couldn't get this exact model anymore. I might try to cut the handle down on the new net. It's 30" and I really like 24" at the most.

Ned rig is one of my favorites. I throw the Tiny Child variation of it. I've caught giants on that. Stay tuned for tomorrow's video. I try a drop shot. Which I hardly ever throw.

I've been throwing my Bull Shad, Bull Herring, and Savage Gear big swimbaits. No takers. It gets well below freezing here in the winter and yes this lake freezes over totally. It becomes an ice fishing paradise as do most lakes in this part of Maine.
