Very cool lake, the trophy catch program devestated that hidden gem. Crazy numbers of absolute monsters were being caught until it got overwhelmed with all the fisherman after seeing them on that website. . It is tough fishing that deep clear water just make sure you using flouro leader and go finesse with dropshot, wacky rig, neko, etc. need to use your graph and trust what your seeing. I would go back there in a heartbeat if I were you.
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rock. Yep, I'm going back but I'll be taking the RV and staying several days. This way, I can get out super early. How did all of those fisherman get access to this lake?
@Rock_Nemo5 жыл бұрын
Nobody new anything about that lake then there where so many 12 and 13 lbers being shown on the Trophy Catch site that people began seeing how they could get in there. Apparently all you need to be or know a veteran to get in to use the lake and within a few years it got pounded hard during the spawn with people using shiners and even taking out some of the monsters. I just remember seeing posts from the guys that had been fishing it for years saying how it got so bad. That should be an awesome trip being able to fish it for multiple days, cant wait to see your video's.

@@Rock_Nemo Like my local lake that I've been fishing since '73. GREAT largie lake, in the '90s the water treatment plant broke and polluted the lake, then the small mouth took over. Now it's clouded water and less than a mediocer lake. But I still fish it a few days a week.
@1539Mickey5 жыл бұрын
Hi T. Those weedless, clear lakes are hard to fish and deep just makes it harder. The fish may be spawning and aren't eating. The fish in NJ are in pre-spawn and they aren't eating. The Fellsmere Marsh may be weedy but easier to fish and no power boats. Good luck, Mickey

Yea I found it :) I fish a 1000 acre gin clear reservoir that's a water supply to nearby Newport News,Va and it is very much identical to Kingsley Lake with the exception there is not one house, pier or dock other than what belongs to James City County & Little Creek reservoir. It's crazy but the only structure is a submerged roadbed 25-30' deep and the east & west roads are visible taking a dive below. No rain off has ever stained the water because of how thick the tree lines hover the banks. I read that Kingsley Lake is half developed properties (homes) and half is completely undeveloped. There was no explanation as to why that is but maybe my Floridian Lady Bass Killer might know something~! Do tell! :-) The aerial photos are spectacular to witness~!
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Half of the lake is a military base. Camp Blanding. It's been there since the 1930's.... thus no development. This is how I access the lake.

Glad the National Guard was there to help you out! Pardon my ignorance but how do you get access to the base? I am absolutely stunned at that water clarity! The underwater footage was beautiful.
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
The base can be accessed by having a military ID, (active duty or retiree) a DOD ID, Law enforcement or for the public, by purchasing an annual pass. I have heard that there was a public boat ramp on the north side of the lake (where Strickland's Landing used to be) but I drove up there and it's now a gated community. Even with the restricted access, I've heard that this lake is pretty pressured.

Sounds like an eventful trip. Question: Do you usually fish that deep of water with your kayak?
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
No I have never fished that deep. I was totally out of my comfort zone. I knew it would be hard for me to catch anything just due to the fact that there is ZERO structure on the bottom of that lake. But this lake does hold GIANTS. Most people that fish it use live shiners though.
@jadeshand29905 жыл бұрын
Old Lady Angler I agree, that would make exceedingly nervous to be in that deep of water in a kayak. I may be wrong, but kayak fishing for me would be shallow lakes and rivers. Nothing much over 6 feet.
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Oh... the depth does not scare me at all. I'm confident in my PFD if something happened. But deep water fishing is something I've not done much. We just don't have a lot of super deep lakes in my area. Most are about 10 feet at the deepest. I do try to avoid rough waters in my little yak though.
