@stealthyturtles
@stealthyturtles Жыл бұрын
He did fumble the bag and this is clearly a play for the PFL to get more attention and be able to compete into the UFCs market. When Ngannou fights that’s gonna be anywhere between 7-9 million plus 2 million for his opponent, that’s half the revenue for their annual last year. They literally can not afford for him to fight more than once a year as it stands, on top of him being in the super fight category which is gonna be 50% of PPV revenue so even if his whole card did sell 500k PPVs they have to pay out half of that to the people in that category, so they barely net anything

@@BigPurp9what “higher potential earnings “ are you talking about? You think for a second Ngannus PPV revenue will come close to anything he could of done with the ufc? He would of made double fighting Jones alone. The ufc offered him the same base pay PLUS PPV POINTS! Which against Jones would of been over a million buys!! He’s not going to even sell 100k ppv with the PFL NO MATTER WHO THEY MATCH HIM WITH! Ngannu was never a star to begin with and without the ufc championship his value decreases every day. Literally the ONLY HIGHER potential earnings outside the ufc came from a boxing match with fury & only fury outside of 1 or 2 big name boxers, THAT’S IT. Well that’s not happening either and again the likelihood it happens decreases every day. Getting equity in PFL Africa? Great equity in something that doesn’t even exist & outside of South Africa Has almost zero potential to be profitable. South Africa already has the top mma promotions in Africa in both boxing & mma. All the talent goes there to compete, so that market is already cornered. Guys this is a big L for Franicis. There’s zero way he makes more money fighting no names in the PFL vs Fighting the big names in the ufc as the ufc champ. The numbers aren’t comparable. Maybe that’s why he did it? He figured he could have a longer career being able to control his opponents & pick favorable match ups? Honestly that’s what I’m beginning to believe.

Francis is arguably the most important fighter in the history of combat sports from a political standpoint. The UFC is a monopoly with virtually no real competition, let alone a union. So with Francis going to the PFL and getting everything that he wanted, he has set a precedent for other fighters to do something similar and take a stand against the UFC as well. This is objectively a good thing for the fighters and for the growth of the sport. EDIT: Btw BKFC and One had no intention of ever signing on Francis. BKFC and One were both negotiating with Francis in bad faith so that they could take advantage of the situation and draw attention to their own promotions and upcoming events, while Dana-White shills forwarded the narrative that Francis made a mistake because he got turned down by the first and second promotions that he was talking to. Also BKFC can't afford Francis anyways. You are not immune to propaganda. The UFC has to do everything in its power tank Francis stock because for him to succeed means that the UFC won't be able to ruthlessly exploit and tie down their fighters with ultra-restrictive contracts anymore since fighters can just go sign with the next best thing (ie the emerging PFL). It all comes down to material interests in the end, and the material interests of the fighters will always be at odds with the interests of the promoters since more fighter pay, benefits, & freedom means less money in the pockets of the owners & investors.

@Mark-bn5ek Even if the PFL goes under (way too early to know for certain) Francis payday and demands were already delivered upon. For all intents and purposes, he beat the UFC. He won. Plus, people act like Francis costing 10 million dollars per year means that much to a company that routinely brings in tens of millions of dollars per year and whos net worth is estimated to be over 500,000,000+$. Yes, they're losing money now, but keep in mind that they're only 5 years old, and the UFC was hemorrhaging money on events for over a decade before their acquisition. Also I find it funny how all these people saying that Francis is boring / not a draw ignore the fact that 1) he's literally got the whole mma media landscape talking about him non-stop since he left the UFC and 2) he actually pulls decent numbers with respect to paper-view buys. 700k ppv sales off his rematch with Miocic is actually pretty solid when you consider how many events only sell around 200k.

He came out and said that he didn’t get into negotiations with either of them. though it might seem like a small detail, it’s really taking these guys at their word that can shape part of the narrative. Chatri and Feldman as promoters their job is to make stuff up and taking these guys at face value can really skew the actual picture, same thing goes with Dana. You can’t take anything from the guys without healthy skepticism.

It's difficult to believe how many people written off Ngannou after he left the UFC, especially after One and BKFC released their comments on the discussion with the former UFC champ. Also, the Fury fight not happening (at least, soon) added to it. People should really learn to be patient instead of jumping to conclusions and eating every single word from Dana White - and we know that the guy is not at the best terms with Ngannou. Somehow, the Ngannou-Dana conflict kinda reminds of Fedor-Dana one. Signing with PFL which collaborates with DAZN (and so, with Matchroom Boxing) is a brilliant move, as it permits Ngannou to fight in MMA and Boxing formulas without any kind of issue. I mean, Ngannou received everything he wanted + he is becoming chairman of PFL Africa (which means: high "passive" income for him without fighting). It's a lesson to all of the MMA fighters - they can stand up to Dana and actually achieve something without staying on the UFC' leash. It's risky, but they could succeed as proven right now. As a result of all of this, if PFL will grow to become a serious competitor to the UFC, it will be better for everyone: fans and fighters except... for Dana. Let's not forget about the kickboxer Cedric Doumbe also signing with PFL: UFC offered him 20k $ for a fight, while PFL 140k $! Ngannou, Doumbe and Paul (for different reasons) are here to make us interested about the PFL and as far as I can see, they are having success. Will it be a success for the promotion in a long term? Who knows, but I hope that it will end for the better for the fighters.

@@aaronmiles2802 his knockouts were impressive though isnt that what ufc fans all claim they want, people love colby even though he couldnt knock out a wank but just cus he taks a lot of shit, but just because francis is soft spoken and doesn't cause drama or assault people and actually does his fighting with his fists and not his mouth people call him boring and not a draw. UFC fans are the worst like seriously.

The PFL have probably no clue on how to deliver their promises to Francis but they needed to sign him fast for publicity and exposure, they have an entire year to figure it out. The PFL was probably like, just say yes to whatever Francis demands, we'll figure it out later, but now we'll be trending worldwide. Of course Im just speculating and I can be wrong.

I think something important is that once a company like the PFL gains some steam, they could easily provide competition for the UFC. If a few big names move over people will start watching, and there could be very talented but currently unknown fighters on the roster. I think it's better for everyone if the UFC no longer has a monopoly in the west.

One Championship has proven one thing The UFC isn't MMA While One Championship's goal is to become Asia and Australia's MMA promoter. It is clear that PFL has more than a fighting chance to build a big brand in the Western side. That point you made bout how Francis can get fighters to move to PFL That will start the ball rolling

I will admit that I was sceptical of Ngannou's chances of getting the demands he made due to a lack of leverage on his side and basically insinuated that he should have taken the guaranteed money. But he did prove me wrong as all signs seemed to point that none of the lesser organisations would have been willing to make the concessions on fighters' rights which we could see based on why most of their negotiations fell through. I think Ngannou getting offered a comparable but not as high upfront fee and the freedom to box was a given. The deal he has with PFL far exceeds many people's expectation and, on paper, has the potential to be even more lucrative than the UFC contract could ever be. The success of this, however, is largely dependent on Ngannou's drawing power as an inability to exceed a six-figure pay-per-view buyrate would not be considered a success in my opinion (the tragedy here being that if far more influential MMA stars, especially Conor McGregor, were willing to stand up for fighters in the same way Ngannou did then they could have completely shift the MMA landscape). I think Ngannou and PFL's best bet is to have a high-profile boxing match with someone like Deontay Wilder hosted in their Superfight Division and then be completely transparent with how much Ngannou makes win, lose or draw. This would surely entice other UFC stars when they reach the end of their contract and do much towards improving conditions for fighters.

This is the equivalent of the Nike bet on MJ. This is huge. But I think the part that we are missing is that Francis was essentially made a star by UFC. There is some parallel to this and the Monday Night Wars of WWF/WCW. I believe this will work short term.. but it only works long term if the PFL can build household names similar to the way UFC has.

Bellator MMA is for sale. If the PFL buys Bellator MMA then it could present a new variable for the company. With already established weight divisions and champions, the PFL could present new opportunities for it's fighters.
