I think it helps that Sonic is already a franchise with multiple continuities with their own feels. Archie Sonic, Fleetway Sonic, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic X, Sonic Boom, Sonic Underground. They all have radically different tones with the only constant being Sonic's own basic characterization. Eggman/Robotnik ranges from one of the most vile and ruthless characters in all of fiction to a mostly harmless guy who just wants attention. Also pretty much every idea in the movies has been done before in a previous continuity. Raised by an Owl? That's from the original Sonic Development Bible that predates everything else. Sonic coming to Earth from another planet/dimension? Sonic X. Knuckles characterization? Heavily inspired by Fleetway. It's just another remix in a long chain of remixes. As Transformer fans should well be familiar with.

The Mushroom Kingdom in the live action Mario Brothers movie is actually Los Vegas not Detroit. Why Vegas? Two reasons. 1. There's a scene that's literally inside of a Casino. Yes there are casinos and gambling in other cities too so that alone isn't enough to equal Vegas. 2. There's a scene where Kopa specifically mentions that the city they're in is surrounded by an endless desert. Having actually traveled to Vegas by car I can confirm that Vegas is indeed surrounded by desert. There is not a single sign of civilization for MILES. The Mushroom Kingdom in that movie is an exaggeration of Los Vegas. Also I was not even surprised that Jim Carrey came back for this movie. Because for those of us who were paying attention, he did say he wanted to keep evolving the character and becoming more like the video game. He wanted to play fat eggman because in the first movie it was a complete departure from the video game, he was really Dr. Robotnick in name only but he has become more and more like the character from the video game in the sequels. The only thing that really surprised me is that there's two of him now. I didn't know he was going to be playing his own father till I saw the trailers. And he did also say when he announced his retirement that it wasn't really a true retirement anyway, like he's just being more picky about what roles he takes on which I kind of feel he's already been doing anyway since he hasn't been as active as he use to be and I think Kick Ass 2 was actually his last movie. I know he wasn't happy with that movie, I'm a huge Jim Carrey fan and I hated that movie so much even having him in wasn't enough to make me watch the whole thing, I really only watched his scenes. There's another movie he was in where he never speaks and he was never credited for at his own request and he has super picky about what projects he's taken on since then. Also, in fairness to Mufasa, I thought that was going to be the last movie where we would get to hear James Earl Jones' voice since he was the original Mufasa from the Animated movies and the only cast member to reprise the role in the CGI version. I'm pretty sure he was still alive when the movie was in production because he just recently died this year and movies are typically in production a year or more before we ever even see the first trailer but I looked it up and I'm not even seeing his name in the cast for this movie. I know it's a younger Mufasa so recasting makes sense but James' voice was in the trailers, I was expecting at least book ends of the older Mufasa narrating the story. Maybe if his voice is in there it's all stock pulled from other movies cause Frank Welker also isn't credited but I know they'll still using the lion roars he recorded for the first movie. He's never been called back to record anything more for any of the sequels or remakes they just keep reusing the same stock recordings they already have of him. Anyway... I still personally have no desire to go see Mufasa, I will be seeing Sonic 3. But I'm not going to complain about Mufasa taking up more screens in the theater because while it's not my thing I do understand for other people there could be more of a demand for that movie because of the connection to James Earl Jones and his recent passing. I will however complain that it feels a little scummy to take advantage of the actor's death in order to sell more tickets and market a movie using his voice if he's not even actually in the movie. IMDB tells me he's not in the cast but I know I heard him in the trailers so that's some manipulative advertising. That I'm going to complain about.

I am so glad the creators of the first film fixed Sonic's design. There's no way we would have the Sonic movie franchise if they didn't do that.

I went into this movie hoping it was going to be as good as the previous one… I left the movie knowing it blew the previous one out of the water!

I'm not too sad that Sonic 3 isn't making as much money as it should due to Mufasa sabotage, because I'm taking it as karma for how Paramount did Transformers One dirty.

Its impressive" Maybe because the producers and writers are actual Sonic fans that actually love and respect the characters, which is what all the other videogame adaptations are literally missing and is the chief reason why videogame adaptations tend to be not good.
