My studio is ITF but it's a little unorthodox, we do low kicks, uppercuts and hooks in sparring. We aren't allowed knees, elbows or take-downs in sparring but we review them in self defense exercises.

As a combat sports entertainment product, it looks very very similar to Glory/K1 kickboxing in a different skin and more amateurish boxing. Their kicks are clean and fast AF though.

If I'm not mistaken, the first clip is a now defunct professional ITF TKD promotion. The rules are the same as regular ITF tournaments, except full contact is allowed rather than semi-conduct, and no helmets. Regular ITF rules are generally semi-contact and allow both punches and kicks to the head and body, but nothing allowed below the belt and no elbows/knees in competition.

2:38 - That kick is called _Rejon Bandal Tchagui_ or just _Rejon Bandal._ In this case, he made a forward step, moving the foot that was behind to the front in an advancing movement, than he performed the _Rejon Bandal._ This is a common movement in TKD matches when there's a big distance between to your target.

More like the old PKA style we used for full-contact back in my own ITF days. There are ITF style schools in the Philippines that use a Kyokushin style full-contact rules. TKD used to be traditional karate, not the sports the WT and other push now.

I got my BB in the WTF style when I was younger, I was always asking why we couldn't punch to the face, to set up the kicks, and asked aobut knees and elbows, I was just told they don't do that...I didn't understand why we only kicked. I got into Muay Thai later, then eventually went to BJJ, because of hip and back issues.

I'm not a fan of how they put the corner color as the swoosh on the pants. Unlike a stripe around the glove wrists it's really only visible from a single angle. Using it in addition to other markers would be fine but using it alone is just dumb

@jamesfrankiewicz5768
@jamesfrankiewicz5768 Ай бұрын
That first fight was reminiscent of pre-2000 era TKD, when TKD was known for kicking ability, but was not dependent on kicks. The kick-focused game originated from the WTF faction trying to create a distinct sport that the International Olympic Committee didn't just shoot down as "karate with a Korean name, and we already have karate".

@@jamesfrankiewicz5768 I agree with you, but it demonstrates that kicks are useless during a fight. The only good and effective kicks seem to be the savate ones.

@@antoniostrina82 Kicks work, the issue is the practitioner. Something like a jump back kick only works when you've timed your opponents closure for the gap you've left them. The guy in the 1st fight threw it hoping to get lucky, as opposed to having set him up to step into it. Instead the red fighter picked up blues over zealous kicks and waited just outside of range. He picked up on blue just being less comfortable with punches and capitalized.

if a strike does not HURT him, (badly) it was not waf. throwing stuff that would not bruise a banana, or from too far away, is a stupid risk to be taking. Especially high kicks. they are easily blocked and then you're off balance, in big trouble and he hits you the leg, nuts, etc
