People, calm down. I think she means kids don't care if their parents are happy as in small children. Of course we all care about our parent's happiness, but when we're kids and specially kids from a separate household, we tend to want our parents all to ourselves and we don't want to share them to anyone. Also, at that young age we don't understand the happiness that comes from having a loving partner to share our lives with. At that age we see our parents only as that parenting figure and not as whole human beings with other needs beyond us

Yes! 😊 I appreciate your comment as well. I don't like when people make absolute assumptions about a group. All step kids are not going to feel the same way.

Children are very intuitive & diserning! That means she really likes you! Sometimes children intervene to actually bring the parents closer together when the parents don't have the wisdom to see certain things!

This video is nice and all, but the title is very misleading. The video is clearly about how to approach step-parenting and has little to do with simply meeting the S/O’s children to begin with.

I think the different perspectives were given because there isn’t a cookie cutter answer. Family is complicated and one method may not one size fits all.

I actually understand what she meant with the kids only thinking about their own happiness, i dont have a good relationship with my mom but i have a better relationship with my dad but we fight a lot and if a woman were to come into his life and he would have introduced her to me i would ofc be awkward and maybe not like her at first, but my dad has talked to me and my brother about step moms so im open to that for him, but for my mom its different, i hate her bf and there is a past to him i dont like and i overall know he is using her but no one quite listens. Its hard for a kid (espacially teen) to accept a stranger to their own family and its even harder if both of the parents are still fighting or if the kid itself hasnt even healed from the whole split.

I'm struggling. I'm 41 have a 7 yr old son. Been with my gf off an on for 2 years total of 1 year together. I'm having a hard time merging and having the 3 of us spend time together. I feel so much guilt for splitting his family and I feel like I'm forcing him into another one. I don't want him to resent me. As I know he still wishes his real mom and me would get back.

It's not luggage if you love and value the person with kids. It can actually be extra younger "siblings" in a way. You love em unconditionally no matter what and try to be there the best you can for them
