These behaviours are due to profound personality disorders. The two most important phrases in understanding these cases are _lack of empathy_ and _lack of insight._ The lack of insight prevents people from learning fundamental lessons like "murdering is immoral, stupid and self-destructive and you'll get caught.' It just falls on deaf ears because in these people's minds, they're smarter and craftier than everyone else, who they view and intellectual pygmies. In their minds, they already know everything. They are close minded, self-centred and arrogant to absurd degrees. With respect to this case specifically, this guy was a total freak. I grew up with Shanna (in a very small town, very rural area). She graduated HS in 1998, a year after I did. Our respective classes were maybe 20 students each, so a very small and tight-knit community. Shanna and I were Facebook friends, but I don’t think I’d seen her since High School. She was a very kind person and it has been an absolute tragedy for her family and the community. Her parents are salt of the earth type of people; her mom (at least when I lived there) cleaned people’s houses including my parents, and her dad worked at the local tractor dealer as a mechanic. I always found the photos of Craig to be unsettling; something just didn’t seem right about him. I’m not some perfect social person by any means, but he just always had weird expressions, his beard was cut in weird ways, etc. Never met the guy, but I was definitely suspicious of him. Shanna was pretty shy, so I can imagine him being pretty persuasive. He also love bombed her in Facebook posts, especially in the months before her murder. Craig’s FB posts were shared to “Friends of Friends” and he had posted a few very unusual things in the hours after the murder happened. Something about going to Las Vegas to meet Trump that also contained “yee yee!” in them or something like that, but they have since been deleted. Her family initially supported him but backed off quickly after these posts, and him leaving TX. It’s a bummer that he never faced a real trial. Her family spent a lot of money on lawyers to help the trial keep moving, and the community had various fundraisers to help them pay for the expenses of lawyers and staying in TX for various phases of the trial. Lastly, I’ve been watching Dr. Grande for many years. I started back when he mostly covered psychology-specific topics. It totally caught me off-guard to see him cover a tragedy that I have a personal connection to.

I'm surprised I have yet to see a true crime recap on my old boss. I always found the way he spoke about his wife (with utter contempt) in casual conversation with multiple people was a bit crazy. He was also not as smart as he apparently thought he was. He once misused the word "combine" (farm equipment) when he meant "commune". He would also do sales and tell potential customers we served customers on all 7 continents. Such a lie. Especially when you consider how far Antarctica is from Detroit and he wasn't running some global manufacturing firm. Thought a murder/capture would be a sure thing in time. 😄

It's like in those murder mysteries where lots of people are locked in a house and one of them is the murderer. If you were the murderer, then you'd be able to sleep easily because you do not need to worry about said murderer while everyone else in the house are terrified because they're not the murderer and don't know when or if the murderer will strike again.

I read a book that was written in the 80s to the 90s that was by the guy who started the Behavioral Science unit in the FBI to hunt down serial killers. He said once he was asked by reporter if him detailing these crimes and how him and his partners solved them would help other Killers get away in the future. His answer was no. Because they find it at the harder somebody tries to cover up a murder the more evidence they leave behind. The most unsolvable murder cases are ones that are completely random. When someone kill somebody they know there will always be some kind of evidence.

I have the feeling he might have been psychotic after all. He had talked about voices urging him to kill with his collegues. Some might argue this was in preparation for a planned insanity plead, but to me that doesn’t make any sense. The rational plan would be to avoid any suspicion by acting like a normal person and avoid any discussions about murder. The use of a knife also seems crazy beyond narcissism, why use the most horrific method available?

I wonder if he had his wife fooled all along that he could or would be a good breadwinner or if she just put up with it. As a nurse, how do you just quit your good job without being pretty sure your hubby can really support you and a child? No, I'm not blaming her, but if this guy was iffy or flaky to begin with as far as being dependable, it just seems to me she was playing with fire and maybe trying him (?). She obviously wanted a child pretty bad. Horrible way for things to turn out. Like everybody else here, I'm wondering how does a man look at his baby son and kill him?

I grew up in Fort Worth and daycare, on average, is not horribly expensive on a full time nurses salary. Don't know which hospital or clinic she worked at, but the hospital usually has one on site for employees, but not sure how much those would cost. For outside daycare, it averages around $800 per month in FW.
@sharonhowell582 Жыл бұрын
Just some thoughts: She may not have been fully aware of their joint financial situation. Even if she knew things would be tight financially, she may have chosen to spend the early years of her child's life at home with the baby. As an RN she could have easily gotten another job if her husband was unable to handle the financial obligations alone. Secondarily she may have hoped him becoming the sole breadwinner would force him to grow a pair. In any event, this is a really sad story.
@TheEMC99 Жыл бұрын
The truth is often women don't realize how strong the instinct is to be at home with your baby until after they're born. Society has this whole daycare pipeline setup but the fact is that you have to go against your innate design to go that route. My SIL did this. After the birth of their 2nd child she didn't return to work without prior planning. She has a bachelor's and was earning $50K/year. Stressful to my brother but he rose to the occasion. It's been 10 years and they're doing well with the addition of a 3rd. I also walked away from my career as an RT. We planned it after realizing we were having our 2nd. It has been sacrificial but so worth it. We just had our 5th. It's an extremely common occurrence nowadays. There's a safe and careful way to go about it and a less careful way. 🤷🏽♀️

It's simple really, "The LOVE of money is root of all evil." My ex-husband tried to murder our child and I when he decided to come for a 'visit'. Why? Because I wanted SOME KIND OF CHILD SUPPORT. He left us. Not one dime in 12 YEARS. I constantly was like, shoes, need shoes, need a washing machine. He HATED it. So us being DEAD was an acceptable solution. He was also on a lot of dating sites. To include finding women from his early 20's he had dated and msging them to mess with them. Sicko. My ex had the same level of juvenile mindset of wanting to only play videogames and Drink, while thinking much prettier women would WANT him😂

He'd have gotten away with my "self inflicted overdose" where he tried to appear a victim of mine during the actual day I was moving 6 hours away with our children because restraining orders are an absolute joke for someone with nothing to lose. The consistency with this type of personality, especially in men, is absolutely fascinating. Are they born this way? Mothers of these men usually share identical traits of coddling, etc. Also, I've found. Um um ummm... this world SMH

What a horrible person. This is a small piece of this puzzle, but I immediately pricked up my ears at "video games." It's another form of addiction. I know that the vast majority of gamers wouldn't harm the hair on a baby orc, let alone their own child, but it is a world where a person can escape and devolve into subsistence. My adult nephew lived with me for about a year and when he wasn't at work, every spare moment was spent on a game called World of Warcraft. Because, he wasn't living up to his end of the bargain with me providing room and board for a few chores, I decided to pull the modem and take it to work with me one day. Now I worked in the entertainment business and saw all sorts of people coming down from benders on booze and drugs, but I was not prepared for the sight of the man who met me when I arrived home that day. He begged and pleaded with me to reinstall the modem and then became threatening to the point that I called the police. He cried like I was refusing him his last meal. He moved out. He lost jobs and his house due to beer, weed, and video games. Smokes, drinks, gambles, cheats, drugs--yep, just add gaming to the list.
