As a long time roleplayer i played Vampire the Masquerade back in the 90s. I ran across several people who claimed they were real vampires including a guy that also claimed he was also 500 years old. He worked at a jewelry store in the local mall, got a fellow gamer pregnant and then told her she needed to get an abortion because the child would be a werewolf. Weird times.

Dr Grande, I REALLY appreciate it that you always point out that autism is not associated with violence. My son has autism and is loving and kind, with none of these dark behaviors that these violent young men display. These horrible outcomes in these stories, often seem more a result of bad choices. Switching on and off the ability to interact and communicate with those they like vs those who are in their way, seems more narcissistic than autistic to me. I'm no expert, but it seems odd that rather often these young men get diagnosed as an explanation for their isolation and self centeredness, after these heinous crimes. It's concerning because it affects the statistics. If 50% of the prison population starts being diagnosed with autism, people will start believing autism IS associated with violence. It could even make it into the DSM, it seems to me. ? I would love to hear your thoughts on this, and young adult autism in general. It's already a challenge to parent a young adult with autism, it helps if it's not misunderstood even more. People seem to think it just goes away when they turn 18. Nobody ever talks about it. I have worked with and done respite work with many autistic children and adolescents, although they tend to have very narrow interests and all have different personalities like any human being none of them have been dangerous or vampires. Just like anyone they can be traumatized and or have other mental health issues that have nothing to do with autism. Albert Einstein, Susan Boyle, Roseanne Barr and Daryl Hannah are all autistic and all have different personalities.

My son will be 33 this year. He is high-functioning autistic. Anyone who didn't know it probably wouldn't guess as he functions fine in social settings. He masks overstimulation well and withdraws to his room for a time after returning home from social events. He's never been able to hold a job because of depression and anxiety and the fact that his sleep patterns are all over the place. He enjoys playing games like Minecraft where he gets to create worlds. When I worked as a home health nurse before I became disabled, I was assigned to a couple of autistic kids. I was not a good fit with one thirteen-year-old boy who was more severely affected and sometimes acted out when he got overstimulated. He was better off with a male caregiver who could be both compassionate and authoritative. Still, this young man certainly never would have sought to deliberately harm anyone. It honestly makes me angry when the lawyers for people like the creep in this video use the autism defense. I really don't believe this guy is autistic.

I dunno. I think it's more of a case by case basis. I never believed in role models as a kid. I never wanted to be like anyone other than me and have my own morals. And I had virtually no parental supervision from 12 on up. I moved out at 15. And I'm a rather well adjusted, stable and successful individual. I also know a couple of people who were raised in very attentive and loving homes, with parents who were very interactive in their lives. They are either dead from OD or in prison now. Though, I dont think stability and good parenting hurts anything. More times than not, it has some great benefits. As long as the parents aren't overly strict. That causes more problems than it prevents.

Your personal experiences (which you aren't that reliable on in the first place) do not negate that it is a fact that a good parent's close involvement in their child's life is the most important factor in their success. VtM is a role playing game like Dungeons and Dragons. It’s a little bit less complicated than D&D in my estimation. I’ve played a couple of campaigns in VtM and they’re quite fun. It isn’t about being an outcast, but a member of a parallel society that aims to keep itself secret. Having said that, it is possible to turn any innocuous role playing game (or any game for that matter) into something nefarious or something it wasn’t designed for, even if the rules of the game contradict it. I was in high school when Vampire: The Masquerade became popular, and just about everything on TV suddenly featured Vampires, and when "Bram Stoker's Dracula" & "Interview with a Vampire" came out, fellow classmates of mine were convinced they were vampires, etc. I kind of remember one girl having a panic attack because she was convinced she was a vampire. I don't claim to be an expert in the Undead, but I don't believe you can cross over (sired, changed, re-born, whatever...) by watching a movie. I could be wrong, but I'd say the likelihood of that happening is far less than being attacked by a real life (dead?) vampire.

I remember this case vividly. What I also remember is Rod‘s mother, who went by the name “Star” at that time, definitely seemed a bit mentally ill herself. I remember seeing her on interviews and such and she always seemed very high; in some altered state. Definitely feel that Rod has some mental issues and I definitely feel they stem from mom. He was lost in the system at young age.

I know I’m missing relevant information, but it seems as if Ferrell’s father gets a pass where Ferrell’s upbringing, and eventual evil behavior, is concerned. However, I don’t know the relationship between the two, or if the mother refused to allow visitation, or if the father was worse acting than the mother, and the court stepped in to protect Ferrell from his father’s behavior.

As a 15 year old I was thoroughly embarrassed when the pastor asked me to come forward and take the offering, and then to say the prayer for the offering. I immediately *froze* because i was incorregible. (😂😅😂) I understand now how being 15, I still had the motive power behind me through my family influence to be the person I made myself through my choices. Went to high school with a guy who reminds me a little of Rod only he was good looking, charismatic, smart and gregarious. He was into occult stuff and apparently went away for a while. The details were hazy so of course that made him even more interesting. Later learned that he had likely killed an animal in some ritual which appalled me. I count my blessing that I did not allow myself to get sucked into (pun intended) his world too deeply as we were close for a while and I had a huge crush on him. Looking back I see how easily this type of dynamic can evolve amongst kids of this age who are seeking an identity and some power over their lives.
