Weeeeellll ... not to speak ill of his diligence as a music critic, but he has more cause than most people to continue listening to artists even after they've established themselves as 'makers of songs Todd does not like'. Seeing as his job is to (mostly) make videos about bad music, of course he keeps listening to Charlie Puth and others who've made lame stuff. It's not like your average music listener who's totally free to stop paying attention to an artist after they're turned off by their work, he doesn't really have a choice but to give them their 'due credit'.

I would have given "Sign of the Times" a spot. I'm no directioner, but Style's solo stuff has really impressed me, even if the rockers are a little dumb. The looseness of the production is unbelievably refreshing for a hit song; it seems like every major label producer has had the compression knob turned to 50 for the past ten years, and while it's not exactly a Pavement song, there is a certain lack of slickness that's really gratifying. A bit of honest to god rawness, coupled with some genuinely moving reflection on the state of the world right now and some passionate vocals, made for a pretty striking and kind of amazing single, given the rather unimpressive pedigree of the artist in question.

To the people saying it's because it was released in 2016: Todd waited to put F*** You in the actual list a couple of years ago because it wasn't a hit yet (he put it in honorable mentions). I always thought the castle on the hill was literal. He _is_ -Irish- English (oops), and Ireland has castles. Europe, in General, has lots of castles. My own little Dutch city has two. The little Belgian village I grew up in the middle of nowhere had an actual fortress in the woods. Moat and everything. Although I do get that for Americans who can't imagine living anywhere near a castle it does sound more metaphorically.

Hearing it again though brings the memories back like yeah, it was pretty enjoyable and dynamic. On your #2, I very reluctantly enjoy that song. I've found myself switching the station when it comes on just because I don't want to get it stuck in my head.
