My absolute first time hearing about him, was from his cousin from Louiville, KY, Jason Mapother, who bragged about him incessantly at summer camp in 1983 at Camp Loucon. My first encounter with Tom, on the Big Screen, was in The Outsiders. I think it was 1983 or 1984. I once met Tom at a pool party at his relative's home in 1984 or 1985 outside Louisville. I remember my mom telling me "They put their pants on the same way every morning!", and that stuck with me. He's a good actor, but has some weird religious and political beliefs. Johnny Depp is another chance encounter, as his cousin, Tipp was a high school classmate of mine, and Johnny shortly lived in my hometown before becoming famous.

@@edwardsmith5650 Yes he can. Example, Rainman. He realized how meaningless awards such as the Oscars are and instead focused on making unpretentious entertaining movies. His spy/action movies are amongst the highest rated and acclaimed in the genre.
