Fish Bajan generally championship performances are considered greater because of a lack of pacers and lots of pressure. This was also a relatively fast final, and he soloed the last 1600 m in 3:57!!! 3:57 is insane.

I just watched 2004 Athens and then this race. He ran this race perfectly. Selfishly speaking I wish El Guerrouj was still racing. However, I am very, very happy for Bekele and glad Kipchoge moved up to marathon. All 3 of them are a joy to watch. Thanks for posting.

This was one of the greatest 5000m races of all time. Brilliant combination of talent and tactful racing. The 3:59 closing mile is just plain ridiculous. I don't know if that has ever been replicated since then.

It is is so much different these days. Abebe Bekila won the Marathon barefoot in Mexico City. Please look at the video. I could have met him. These days all these runners are like rock stars. Can't even get close to kiss them

Bekele gonna repeat this at the 2020 Olympics after 26 miles. That really was the most insane kick ever, he made Kipchoge realise that he was never gonna beat Bekele on the track.

Bruh. I hate how everyone thinks Eliud didn't have any speed. One of the prime examples of his speed was in the 2003 WC 5000m final, or his 3:33 1500 and 3:50 mile. He wasn't always a marathoner.

These world class athlete are a different breed. If you happen to race them their run looks like to you something happening in a dream. They run almost effortlessly at impossible speed. It is inborn. From Bikila to coe to ovett to viren to yifter to elguruuz to haile to tergat and bekeke to kipchoge... all have that x factor thar made them different from the rest.
