Hi. Do you have any solution for dust collection when you are ripping with the radial arm saw . I find the saw dust expels both forward and rearwards along the bench extensions. I have a very similar set up to yours including the dust box dust collection when cross cutting. The only dust extraction port is on the blade guard > It collect much of the dust but not all. Also I have all but excluded the need to alter the radial position when cutting mitres. I use templates cut to set angles which allow the saw to remain in the 90 degree cross cut position This knowledge is thanks to another KZbin video by a very experienced dealt radial arm saw user who demonstrates this technique
@mattlewandowski736 жыл бұрын
you might consider using those small stops to permanently set the back position of the RAS side fences to the back position of the RAS fence. Additionally the small tuck away work tables would be a good place to set up some additional t-track allowing you to use the fence rails, or to set up multiple tracks for a full assembly table with all the t-track clamping capabilities. If you use the same fences you use on the main tables, the kreg stops would work, but the measuring tape would no longer be a valid measurement for the small miter saw. In all a very nice design. I personally have made my dad keep his old craftsman radial arm saw for a number of years in hopes of eventually having a place to put it and build a full modular bench around it.
@TommyTompkins6 жыл бұрын
Good idea. I've thought about possibly adding t-track to my rolling tuck-away tables. There's a lot of instances that would come in handy.

A couple of comments : Have anyone tried to have suction from/in bottom of the radial saw ? The vacuumhose could be attach to the wall, and then run down on either side of radial saw. Underneath the radial saw, you could have an box with holes of different sizes. Whenever you need suction it somewhere else use an extension hose.

The blue Rabbit Not for me. Tommy seems to have forgotten where this project all began - with an effort to clear up his garage. I can’t imagine a less needed addition than a second miter station. As much as I enjoy the quality of his work and videos, this seems like a poorly conceived plan. The miter saw should have been sold. Can’t see it ever finding a use.
@chrismoore99975 жыл бұрын
@@dennisfahlstrom7422 - except that it can be put away under the table when it isn't needed and a chop saw like that can be much more handy for making compound miters quickly. I love my radial arm saw and I know that can do compound miters also, but the chop saw can often get the job done quickly and then there is the portability of it. The radial arm saw is just not easily portable.
@turb0b0ytim8 жыл бұрын
Nice work, and great video style! My only concern is that you can't open your lids while miter-sawing. Maybe you should make version 1.2 where you cantilever your shelf off of 1 table, or put legs to the floor on one end? Sincerely, Monday Morning Quarterback
@TommyTompkins8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For me personally, this is a secondary miter station that will only be used on rare occasions so I don't mind not being able to open up the tables. I can slide tools in and out from the sides just as easily and if I absolutely had to get into one it only takes a minute to detach the bridge. With that being said, it would be better if it were still possible to open the tables with the bridge still attached. I have an idea that I'll mull over for a bit that might possibly make it into a new version :)
@ScottBelleriWorkshop8 жыл бұрын
Nice work again! Did you consider setting up the miter saw and radial arm saw next to each other, and have them share the same fence?
@TommyTompkins8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I did consider that and was actually leaning in that direction before this design. The problem is that I wanted a movable fence for my radial arm saw (explained in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGjQiGaAgKaknsU) and the standard chop saw doesn't need a movable fence. I also preferred the concept of opening up more table space using the rolling workbenches and freeing up space on the main tables.

hi, Iam very curious as to the dimensions of your garage workshop? looks large on the videos. im curious cause my wife said i can go from a 12' x 20' garage, to a 24' x 28' garage (workshop) there will not be any vehicles parked in it. lol 😈
@TommyTompkins7 жыл бұрын
I'm in a larger 3 car garage but my shop takes up approx 27.5' x 18' which leaves about 1.5 parking spaces when all my workbenches are deployed. When everything is put away, we can park two cars and an 18 foot boat but it's really tight.

Sorry Tommy, me again. I’m hoping to move into a new property soon, with a garage, as I haven’t got a workshop where I live, as it happens, I’ve never had one & it’s always been my dream. Obviously, it won’t be as large as yours, in fact I could put the house in yours, but the Mitre Saw Station, with the pull out units, has given me a great idea, on how to adapt mine, for the table saw, router, drill press etc; & still be able to house the car. Fantastic, best set of video’s I’ve watched for a while & wonderfully edited. You’re not a film producer in real life, by any chance are you? Lol :-) P.S: Loving some of the tools, router, joiner etc. Blessings to you all.

Great videos pal. They are a lot of fun to watch and follow too. I guess my first question is it appears as if all of your tables heights are the same uniform number? What is that? It also appears to be a little on the high side, at least for you? Is that your personal comfort height? lol
@TommyTompkins8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The main tables are bar height (42" tall) and I chose that for three reasons: 1) I have a bad back and don't like to bend over. I love the height for working with the radial arm saw. 2) I wanted the main tables to be as high as possible so that I could fit larger tools in the rolling workbenches 3) I wanted the lathe to be at a comfortable working height while using it in a seated position and I'm very happy with the results.
@mulberryworkshop7 жыл бұрын
Did you thought about using slots from the bottom of the base so you could slide the table down? If so, did you discard it for any particular reason? I like the bridge idea, but it seems like it would have been better to add fixing rails to the benches for it, rather than using the rails on the lids of the benchs, so that you can open the them still without having to remove the bridge
@TommyTompkins7 жыл бұрын
That was the original idea but I didn't go that route because it was more important for me to be able to store the bridge on the bottom shelf which has limited space. However, I do have an idea that I might try to make the bridge work so that the bench lids can still open :)
@Billybob098717 жыл бұрын
I thought adding a 2x4 to the top of the bench frames might work, but not sure if you have the space under the larger benches to allow for this. you would probably also need to use t-nuts for the fixings too

Tommy Tompkins Concur with Armin. The adhesive used to bind the MDF together is hard on the lungs - worse than plywood because the dust particles are so much smaller. My lungs took a beating using that stuff and I was on steroids a long time recovering. They still are not as good as before. None of your examples shut down the question of why do you need two miter saw stations. The examples don't even make sense. You don't need two miter saw stations. I can see why a professional someone might but from watching a few of your videos with the annoying and unneeded music you're just a yuppie that likes showing off a huge shop of shiny tools. You don't need two miter saw stations. Also even with the separate station for the little DeWalt you only have one miter saw station. That other tool is called a Radial Arm Saw - not a miter saw. You can tell the difference because the Radial Arm Saw is much more versatile.
